Bastian's Puzzle - #1
« on: April 14, 2004, 11:27:23 pm »
Congrats on your new job. You're a Janitor for a building that has two floors and it's your job to clean both floors. Now, there are three rooms on the second floor of the Building, each with a light in it. The switches, however, are located on the first floor, all on the same panel.

Three lights, three switches.

This is a two part riddle.

Part 1, What is the minimum trips it will take to find out which switch goes to which light?

Part 2, How would you go about it?

The problem. There are no windows on the second floor, so going outside and looking up won't help. Also, the doors on the rooms acre closed and lightproof, so you can't see the light in any way from the first floor.

hmm
after thinking for awhile,my guess would be::

turn switch 1 on for awhile, maybe about...5 mins, then turn it off again. next, turn on light 2, and leave it on, leave #3 off..

go into the room #1.
if the light is on, #2 controls it. if the light is off, but warm, switch 1 controls it. and finally, if the light is off and cool, switch 3 controls it..

repeat this proccess for all 3 rooms, and violia!
