This has been suggested a few times before, but it's always been voted down. My thought - with few exceptions - is that if there isn't an angle for discussion, it probably doesn't belong on a discussion forum.

I think the real reason there isn't a dedicated rant forum is because often times a rant involves being annoyed at something for that specific moment.  When you're cooled off, you no longer feel like carrying on with the topic anymore. Another problem is the embarassment issue. If you ever look back and read your own rants or read rants of someone else, it's really embarassing. I know I hate looking back at my own rants because it makes you think "I can't believe I said that". I disagree that a conversation can't come of a rant because it depends on the topic - no one likes being stuck in traffic. However, I think the staff are against it most because it probably comes off as "GRRR I HATE THIS THING RAWR RAWR RAWR! >:C" to them.

No. The LP forum is NOT for mindless ranting. It's for legitimate and serious life issues which can include, but is not limited to:
Relationship/Friendship issues
Parental problems
Health issues
Family issues
........etc.

Well I've seen people ranting in the life problems, the debate and the general discussion forums x3 I think rants can fit quite well in different areas when handled appropiately.

Never seen it in the debate section (not /personal/ 'rants' - note that rants are implying dis-civility to begin with), and rarely in the general discussion forum.

(Trivia: the trope name for 'pointless angst' is 'wangst' (whiny angst) - not sure if its an actual term outside of being a trope name though)
