Title: Upload issues
Post by: phelanhawk on September 11, 2006, 11:48:58 pm
I have a particularly slow connection, and as a result,it takes a very long time to upload apiece of music. Now, this isn't my problem.

However, whatis my problem, is that the last four times I've uploaded a song, I'm taken to a blank page after uploading for an hour, then my song never shows up on my webpage.

Am I doing something wrong?

I'm no expert, but I'd assume that during this hour of upload something is timing out, which pretty much stops the process.  My only solution regarding the matter would be to attain a faster connection. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Hopefully, though, my reply to this post will pop it up to the 'New Posts' section so others can see and share their opinions. Good luck in your endeavours.

Judging from your description, it sounds like you're using the web-ftp.  I'm under the impression that the blank page you're getting is a 510 (gateway timeout), as Miles seems to be implying, simply because it's taking so long to load the next page - unfortunately, I can't confirm that.  (If it takes longer than a few minutes to load a new page, some gateways/proxies will disconnect you from the webpage, and usually return an error message containing the above code.)

As a solution, I'd recommend getting an FTP client, and preferably one that allows you to append files, or resume those uploads (most clients can do this).  Not only will you be notified of a disconnection sooner, but it will enable you to continue where you left off.

Filezilla is good and it also supports "resume".  So if you lose your connection you don't have to start over.  It just picks up where it left off.
