How many of us actually have real life furry mates? How does life differ from having a mate that is a fur than one thats not one?

As for me, I didnt know anything of furry before march 2004 and I was single til I met Takieda so I dont know how life would be without a mate thats not a fur.

I would only know how life would be with a mate thats not a fur while I wasn't one.  Since I became a fur, I haven't had a non-fur mate...

I would suspect that, while the beginnings of it would be awkward, it wouldn't be much different after a while.  If the person is worth staying with, they would alreay be okay with it and even work to use the terminiogy and such with you.  In my opinion, if you do happen to get a good human as a mate, then it will probably be as, if not a little more, fulfilling, because you would know that the person is willing to take that extra step for you.

Still, I'm sure you would also have to make sacrifices to make it work.  However, you wouldn't mind making them, because that would make you worth it too.  Social occasions that includes both of you, you would probably have to leave the tail at home.  There are other sacrifices to be made, but I digress.

On the other side of that, of the relationship is having too much problems with the differences, it's probably not one worth following for too long.

So, in summerizing, and assuing that you stick to what works:

Fulfilling and probaly a bit exciting (beyond the normal excitement of a relationship) at first, then after a while, just like any other relationship.

I feel extremely lucky to have Takieda, not only is he a fur but like me hes a lifestyler. Furry is an intricate part of our daily life.

I'm happily taken. Non...or perhaps he considers himself one now? Well, either way it started as me being one, but with non.
It was really difficult to tell him at first, but he was so accepting it seemed almost silly to hide it for so long. He even supports my slight lifestyling. Really, if your partner is okay with it then it's not much different from any other particular quirk you have- its just another aspect of your personality.
Who knows? He says he might even be one too  '<img'>

Never had a mate, but I think it may be better to have a furry mate than a non furry since both would share a furry interest, and that makes way to some wacky stuff.  (yay to couple furry halloween costumes) '<img'>

Met my mate at a furcon.  So that probably answers that.   '<img'>

Though it is not so much a furry thing.  We just found we had a lot in common from love of musicals to love of fursuiting to love of adventure.

I would think if furry was a 'big' part of your life, it would have to be at least a minor part of your mate's.  To me mates need lots of common ground to last.  As time passes, interests come and go, so you need to have plenty of common ones to start with so you'll always have something to fall back should one interest fade.

I never had a non-furry mate, but I have to say that having a furry one is awesome. He definitely understands (and enjoys) my eccentricities.

My first mate was a furry, back when I had first just started learning about it myself. I was with him for about four years before things ended. Then I dated a non fur for a bit, and that ended.

And now my current boyfriend/mate is non fur, I believe. Although I asked him once if he were to just choose any animal to be "merged" with so to speak, he answered with little hesitation "liger" (the lion x tiger hybrid) in all seriousness.

I don't really find any difference between dating a fur and a non fur. I wouldn't give up Lonnie for the world, even if he's not into the fandom or furriness. But we mesh together pretty nicely on other likes and even dislikes.

This is actually something I've found myself pondering lately.  It seems I am burrowing a little deeper into furry by the day, and have become snugly attached to it in heart and spirit.  It is very much a part of my lifestyle and I don't see that ever changing.   At this point I am not certain I could devote myself to someone who isn't a furry.  They might respect and even understand my furry tendencies, but I really feel as if I would only belong with someone who not only respects and understands me, but also identifies with me.  I just can't see anyone who doesn't associate with furry being able to do that enough.  Of course, I already have a best friend who is also a furry, and he is what matters most to me.

My mate is not a furry per se, although he's attracted to the fandom and does have a fursona, but only to be a counterpart to my own.  It works out in the end.   '<img'>

I've only had non-furry SOs. One of which I had almost as long as I knew what 'furry' was. Besides for one major trauma, I don't remember any issues with me being a furry. Then again, honestly, I'm not /that/ much of a lifestyler... at least not anymore.

It may be nice to date a furry type now that I'm adrift again. I certainly wouldn't say no to someone who wasn't, however. As long as he's ok with it, I'm ok. Things more important to me are things like similar life goals, ideas on parenting, education, etc.

All of my previous relationships have been with non-furs. My current mate's with a fur. I honestly don't mind dating either or, as long as they can accept me for what I am and not wig out about it. They don't have to be furry, but I won't tolerate them badmouthing or mocking me for being one.

Never really dated a fur either.  But that doesn't mean I would never like to.

Furry would only be one thing that would need to jive between us, though, and it's certainly not on my list of "most importants".  But she'd have to respect my interest in it (even share in it, if I were so lucky).

It seems like there are a lot of furries dating furries they've either met on here or through the fandom in some way.  That much is definately true.  Who knows?  Maybe someday I'll be one of em'.  '<img'>

Ive only had one GF...and that was many, many moons ago '<img'>.   She wasnt a furry, but she made a few vauge references to them. (She saw the MTV speical, unfortunately '<img'> )  She once accused me of being furry, but since I was really new to the fandom then, and I was afraid that she would leave me if she knew the truth...I denied being furry.......thats somthing that I still regret.

...But possibly on the better side of that....me and my ex GF have started talking again...I dont know if we will start dating again, but we can be freinds....and if we can, I plan on telling her the truth about me being furry this time. I hope she understands '<img'>

For me, I have never been successful in finding a mate since I rarely have contact with people my age.  And I usually spend time by myself alot since there isn't a whole lot to do in my home town.

Though it would be great to have a mate wether they be furry or not.  I would even try to explain my furriness to a non-fur if the time comes and hope she understands.

I'm glad Happenstance is furry. I think it helps our relationship. I dunno what I'd do if I fell in love with a man that hated furries... Actually, I guess that'd never happen, would it?
I bid thee farewell, oh furry fandom! May we meet again.

Other than the RP yiffing I see no real difference aslong as they accept your furryness.

PS: If the yiffing comment was to much please delete this post.

My mate is a fur and I think it's a good thing.
I think I'd feel akward acting furry around someone who wasn't a fur or who didn't quite understand it, even if they were perfectly cool with it.

I've yet to have a mate...whether furry or non-furry.

I think I'd definitely prefer to have a furry mate. But if I ever ended up with a non-furry one, as long as they were okay with me being a fur and didn't mind me expressing it on a regular basis, I'd be happy.
