Our african greys had three eggs, all of which hatched...

But today two died because of the parents...

We've moved the last one into the house to hand rear, just in case ':cry:'

Unfortunatly just like humans not all animals are the perfect parents we expect them to be and little episodes like that happen.
Good luck with the little one and if you have problems ask, I'm sure you should have no problem finding a good vet and there are a few bird fanciers here that would be happy to give information if asked.

Its not uncommon for birds to kill and eat their hatchlings. Though they generally do it for environmental reasons (lack of food etc).

So this is nothing unusual.

Other animals that will do this include rodents and some lizards.

Next time, move the eggs to an Incubator.

Very expensive though.. I have been wanting an African Grey for about 7 years now. Last time I checked they were 1$ per word (Males can speak 1,000 words, I'm not sure about females). Around 2001 I looked into it and I think they had cost around $1,000 for either sex.

Yeah...I know. That is the main reason why I havent been able to get one. 2000 to 6000 dollars each here, and, in this country they're very hard to find.
Then I also am a bit scared of having a pet that you get really attatched to... and then it...dies. That has happened to me before... I dont know... sometimes I wonder if all the pain is worth it in the first place...

Aww, poor Zar....

I'm not surprised that they ate the babies though, birds do that a lot, heck all animals do.
