The documentary on furries, "Animal Imitators" is on TLC right now! If y'all miss it, it's coming on again in a few hours. I'm recording it for a bit..

BTW, is it just me, or did it get mad quiet on these boards?

SOrry, I had to move stuff into my dorm and lost net access for a while. As for the show... I have cable but for some reason I don't get TLC in hee. It sucks man.

I probably won't bother watching it, until someone has video files of it shared on the net. Heh.

As for the board being quiet, it does seem a bit that way, but do keep in mind that a number of the users here are gearing up for school right now. There's been a handful of announcements from users here that are going to offline for a bit while they settle into school.
Little slumps happen every so often on the boards, MUCKs, and whatnot, so I'm not going to worry.

Well, I just got done watching it and I liked it. It was for sure better then that Mtv one.

I diddnt think it was so bad, but it wasnt ALL about furry really, but even those parts that were were generally not very offensive. Alough they did show those terrible pictures from the vanity fair article, well you cant have it all.

Out of curiousity, I watched the show. It was different. And grasper was right, it wasn't all about furries. It was more like what extremes some people will go to to live out their connection with a particular animal. Many of the explained 'attractions' were supposedly spiritual in nature, although I was left raising an eyebrow at some explainations. They mentioned furries briefly when touching on a convention held in Chicago. So I do not think anyone who missed the show missed anything of importance or significance. And I had to wonder at the tv stations choice of placing both the first running of the show and the rerun a few hours later on either side of a program entitled :What were you thinking? ---which details the stupid things people do and berates them for it. Generally producers and programmers for TV stations try to plan for similar viewing audiences when they string several shows together. And what it left me wondering is... What kind of audience were they trying to attract? And was there an underlying message implied?
But then, I often look too deeply into things. So who knows...

It was an interesting show, but as others said, much of it wasn't related to furry. I think only 2 of the 5 people identified would consider themselves part of furry fandom and those were the two fursuiters. The fandom only got touched on once or twice as the show focused more on what these particular individuals did to change themselves.

They also didn't do much research into the fandom, as there are conventions open to the press like Further Confusion.

I must say though, the animatronic wolf fursuit was definitely cool.

That was my friend in one of the Vanity Fair pictures. (The less deranged looking one in the red panda suit) He helped me make my Rouge suit. He's good people.

Well I missed the show.. I couldn't get TLC on satalight.. for some reasion we lost the signal here..

Can I get a copy of the tape.. ? Dream Tiger ? or anyone else that taped it.

It was a pretty good show. I like the comments by the psychologists and the anthropologist. Coyote was a pretty good artist. I would like to have seen more art. The fursuits were awesome, and I would love to have a fursuit, but I can tell you that I would never go as far as Cat. I'm scared of needles.

I thought it was rather nicely done. It was informative and useful. It was fun without poking fun. The show certainly lacked that seedy slant that so many of the other media units have tried to put on related subjects, which was a good start, in my opinion. ':p'

Well, seeing as the show is written so that the interviewers can talk about their lives and whatnot, it may make them look more egocentric than they really are. At least the guy that was doing the tiger fursuit was more into entertaining others and getting pleasure from doing so.

It might not display unless you have the DivX codec installed in your computer for the media player to use or at least have the stand-alone DivX player (awesome for movies).

That really was a great one, though. I found it interesting tha they didn't mention anything remotely related to 'yiff'. I thought it was nice of them to state that "Furries have gotten a lot of bad press in the past."

...right...and Ive never met Furries ever so I wouldnt really know or anything. Not counting the last thirty people from online ofcourse. Let me ask you this; Would you rather have them explain exactly what sort of lude acts go on at conventions or would you rather explain how fursuiters are really all about themselves and their own image? Furrie...except for the Lizard dude that was just a carnival freak that had nothing to do with the show aside from body modification that looked animalesque in scales. Infact I dont even know why he was really in there. I guess he was imitating an animal heh...but not mentaly like the wolf dude...and the realy weird leapord chick...and that Tiger guy. Hate to say it but his idea of living like a tiger was f-ing scued if you ask me...how many Tigers wear cloths and run chat services?

The poor tattoo artist for that Leopard chick looked like he was a bit undone by her moaning...hmm...They didnt film that bed room scene...not that it wasnt obvious. He was just trying to NOT make it look obvious since he was on TV and had other clients... I mean how many tat artists have a fire going and the lights down low and wine on the table?

Anyhow...lets see...the only normal one that I saw in there that I could relate to was a total freak on purpose and that was the lizard man or whatever he called himself. He did it to make people look at him and gawk...to give them chaos...and for his side show of course.

I would've liked to see more art on the show. I saw a few pieces. Coyote showed himself to be very accomplished with the pencil. I hope it wouldn't seem egocentric, but as a furry artist, I would like to see a fur that expressed their furriness through imagination and art.

As a lifestyler, I find that I express my wolfish nature 95.5% of the time by drawing wolves or other animal morphs. Not that it's a better way to do it. It's just how I do it. That's why the fandom is so interesting, seeing how every individual fur expresses themselves. At one end, it's just a storytelling or art genre, while at another end, furs that truly believe they are trans-specied, an animal trapped in a human body and are desperate to escape their human form.

You seem to have such a low opinion of the fandom that I sometimes wonder why you hang out here.

Both my wife, who is not into furry at all and myself watched the show. The only one we thought of as a 'freak' (hate using that term) is Stalking Cat. My wife's comment on him was that he makes a good social experiment.

Yes you do wonder if Snap is able to socialize with others without his tiger suit on and if he started wearing it to run away from something else in his life. That doesn't mean he wouldn't be an interesting person to talk to.

Neither my wife or I found the girl with the leopard spot tattoos extreme at all. It was kind of, why is she even included in the show since she's not that extreme.

I only know one fursuiter and he is a fully functional former marine and basic nice guy. Maybe I haven't met enough to form the impression you have MidnightDragon.

I dont have a low or high oppion on Furries at all. I just call it like it is nothing more. Besides...I never said I had a problem with it. To each their own. And patrick...I agree with your statment about his art. it was wonderful However it was limited to Wolf anthros from what I discovered. That pains me to see talent that would be very sellable limited by the want to spawn Lupine alone.

I agree there. One thing I like to do is explore many other species. Like you said, to each his own, but I also think an artist that sticks to one thing limits herself or himself.
