Great game, I still play it time to time but nobody wants to play with me anymore because I beat their tails. Well at least most of the times.  '<img'>

My favorite chars: Roy, Kirby and yes, the ice climbers (you don't believe me huh?)

But I use mostly Roy, the rest is more as an alternative or just for fun :cool":

And about tricks and stuff. Never, I really mean NEVER use Roy against Samus.. Direct vs Indirect does NOT work.  ':p'

Where are the Yoshi fans?!! I'm an undying one(despite all the second-rate games they've been putting out -_-) and I have yet to of been beat while using him...give me Roy and it's just not fun for anybody...

Hehe, I actually beat the top player at my old college wish Yoshi once, the only time I ever beat him. The guy is crazy good, only one other person, his roommate who played him all the time, could ever come close. But I beat him with Yoshi, after he talked all kinds of trash about him.

Yea, Ganondorf's world record is pretty impressive. The counter in game stops at 9999.9, but it shows the actual score in the menu. Ganondorf and Ice Climbers(glitch) are tied for the longest world record homerun contest at 11347.2 feet.

You can see them here if you like:

There's a new video on DetStar's Smash Bros. page.

It's someone getting a distance of 9999.9 Ft with Ganondorf in the Home-Run Contest.

I got bored of this game until me and my friends learned the advanced stuff. We've been playing consistently for 3 years since then. Seriously, to us, the competitive part of the game is what makes it interesting. If that stuff wasn't there, it would just be another party game that's kinda fun for a half hour. Competitive fighters are where the fun's at for me.

Oh, and Clockwork, I'm really curious to know what area it is that you were doing all this in, because most competitive Smashers don't praise Ken, and Wavedashing isn't cheap. In fact, most competitive Smashers will tell you that Ken is a jerk in person, and that Wavedashing is one of the least useful advanced techniques. SHFFLs and chainthrows are 100 times more useful than wavedashing will ever be, and for wavedashing to be useful at all, you need to be able to do it without thinking about it, otherwise it will actually make you worse.

About DBR, some of their combos are assisted, as in the victim purposefully didn't escape when they could have. Their videos are just to kind of show potential. Some of the DBR guys will tell you themselves that they aren't that good(except for GERM, who is not a very pleasant person).

Well why not? I got a copy last week when I got my GCN back.

Discuss the game; what you like/hate about it, share tactics, etc.

I love the game. There's just so much to accomplish! It seems like in Super Smash Brothers, the only objection to the game was to get all four secret characters. I know, I know, it's a fighting game; but beating the crap out of a character can get old quite fast. In SSBM, after you finish one thing, there's always something else to do.

My favorite characters would be Ganondorf and Sheik. What can I say? I'm a Zelda fan. '<img'>

I was glad there was a lot more to offer in the GCN version. Although the difficulty was ramped up considerably.

Not to mention the frustration level. I was this close to winning Event Match 51. Except Ganondorf got a Porygon2 to finish me off. ARRGHH!

I've been searching for tips for it, but no such luck.

Is that it one where you get to fight Mewtwo, Gigibowser, and Ganondorf at the same time. If it is I found Jigglypuff's "Sleepy Slap" very effective, that's what I used to win the match, although I dislike the Puff it is useful. Man I can't wait for the new one. *is such a nintendo desperate*

My friends and I still to this day play this game!  I bought it the day it came out, and it still has a near permanent spot in my gamecube '<img'>

I play 3 different characters..  Ganondorf, Captain Falcon, and Young Link.

I've played Ganondorf the most out of any character, by far, but recently I have been tearing it up as Young Link.

My buddies and I are actually -really- good at the game, considering we've played it so much.  Just recently we went to a tournament of about 20 people (10 teams) and we were -easily- undefeated.   Makes me really excited for the Wii version of the game, and online play! I just hope the game has better levels, my friends and I play Hyrule Temple 99% of the time.  Bigger maps = more fun.

As for tips and tricks....  Erm... master your smash attacks and stick with one character and learn their moves, strengths, weaknesses... which moves will leave you open, etc.   Even weapons and items, each character has different attacks, speeds, special smash attacks, etc.

It just takes practice, it's a very very simple game that can be an extremely skillful fighting game.   If you are a button masher, there is absolutely no way you could beat a skilled player, especially in a big map like Hyrule temple '<img'>

I'll pick up a Wii and Super Mario Galaxy, might get SSBB. Later...gotta get bored with Gears Of War first.

At my old college I was at last year, the entire hall and then some would play SSBM virtually every single day without fail. It was just crazy and we got pretty crazy good. The best guy could beat anyone with anyone pretty much, he would use like Princess Peach and people just to mock us I think. All his fingers were double jointed though, which I think gave him a big advantage.

My best was Marth and favorite was Falco, I got pretty good, 3rd best maybe, and can still kick some tail around on there ever after not playing in forever like a couple weeks ago.

I used to enjoy going to the tourneys, I really did. But all I kept hearing was the same shameless fanboyism. Game geeks would praise the Almighty National SSBM Champions like an obsession. No matter how good you were with say...Mario...there's a national champ who's so much better with Mario than you. Why? Because they won an official tournament blah blah.

I'm sorry, why should I care how much better a total stranger is at this game? Am I ever going to meet them? No.

Hey I'm very content knowing I can own anyone in local tourneys with freakin' Bowser or Jigglypuff. Taking out 30-40 other players from your own neighborhood.....you don't need some official title to know you're good at this game.

For the record, I really don't have a favorite character, because I can play well with almost all of them. I'm not saying I'm a better player than you, but don't count on me losing easily. There's a trick to every game. Accurate timing is this one's. And hon'...I didn't get my nickname for nothing.

It's fun to watch them on youtube. You can learn a lot by copying their moves.

Do a search there for 'SSBM Ken' if you want to see the world champion in action. '<img'>

Oh man, huge nintendo and SSB fan. I play at my friends house nearly every day, and we have had the game for at least 4 years. Can't wait for brawl.

The only thing I dont like about it is all the advanced techniques, I mean me and my friend play competetively (argh spelling) against eachother and stuff, but I played against some pros and got wasted. We do use a few advanced techniques, but we dont want to learn stuff like wavedash and all that. We think it sort of takes all the fun out of the game, we think its alot more fun with lots of rolling around and slashing =)

Favorite character is Fox btw, with mewtwo being my second favorite.
Avatar credit goes to Sheeta, thanks!

You can learn a lot by copying their moves.

Of course.....unless you've been using them yourself all along. This game is high quality and very entertaining. But that doesn't mean it's too complex (little kids play it too). I'm sure many ordinary players discovered these "moves" long before the elites made them noteworthy. But not everyone has the time (or would bother) to make a film proving that...

For all we know the best Link player in the world could be someone's grandma who learned while babysitting the kids....she was just too busy to enter something like an official tournament.

And I appreciate your princely invitation to watch the imfamous Ken's video exploits, Karo. But I've seen them more times than I cared to. He really is good. But many of the SSBM enthusiasts I've met practically want to build a monument in his honor. I really think that's just a bit too far...

Finally beat 51..

I used Jigglypuff's Down & B move to take out Giga; as for Ganondorf and Mewtwo, I grabbed a Star Rod and smashed till I got blue in the fur. I worked though.
