Alright, I need to get this off my chest...
Today we had English finals. For the finals I worked with a group of 3 others to make a newspaper. I swear to god, I was the only mentally competent person there. At one point when one of the major articles where due, I was the only person who turned it in on time. The only dammed person. Throughout the entire assignment I was the only one pulling my weight and getting things done on time. A day before it was due I ended up doing articles and prints that 2 other people where supposed to do. A third of the articles where hampered by egregious errors, and the person responsible said they would re-print them later that day, but it didn't happen until 20 minutes before the project was due. On top of that, on the off chance that something was done one time, there was a 40% chance that the level of care put into the assignment couldn't hold up a candle to the work of an ADHD-racked 5th grader. By the time class was over I was about ready to claw someone's face off.

Hey, don't worry about it, I just went through that a few weeks ago, everybody has something others get impressed by!

I squander all of my free time playing games when I want to do other things but never do since I go play games. Once I'm done playing however, I usually have a feeling of like I could've been doing something much better. :(

i feel EXACTLY like that, but my addiction is not small, it's HUGE ! Sometimes i'd wish my parents never bought that gameboy color with pokémon blue for me. I'm actually pretty ashamed, i have played over 1000 hours of pokémon and over 300 hours of mario :(,hell i spent over 3000 dollars on gaming stuff already, but that's over now.
I drew some stuff today, and i drew a solid snake fox chibi ^^, yep you heard it right , a solid snake FOX chibi with ears and a tail AND a headband ^^ man i'm crazy ,and the only thing i'm good at is the piano, but my teachers and my dad made me play so much( and never let me play what i wanted to )that i swore NEVER to touch the big black thing in our living room again, i've come to HATE the piano (no offense to you lawrence, i think your songs are pretty nice ^^)... i'd like to get drawing, but i think my parents would be suprised by that , they would try to find out why i started drawing , and then they'd discover i'm a furry, and they'd probably look it up on the internet... and what Dr. internet says on furrries ain't good...

So today in drama me and about 8 other kids where in the costume/storage room looking for props for an upcoming play. One of the girls who was taking a break on the sofa asked about my collar. Not in the mood for elaborating things, I just told her I was a furry. "Like the CSI episode?." She asked. It all went downhill from there. It turned out about half of the people there had seen the episode, and the ones that did not where caught up quickly...very quickly. I ended up flanked by inquisitive kids having to explain the fandom in a non-sexual light for about 5 minutes. Then one of the kids who had seen the episode brought up "Yiff". So I then spent probably 10 minutes having to explain, de-obfuscate, and and put some context onto the word "yiff". One kid who knew something about the fandom (but was not a part of it) helped me with the "we don't do it in fursuits" part. By the end I was sweating bullets. Not fun. :P

Coding bugs are evil.
During the past week, I've been working on a Fraction structure for my programming class. This isn't a hard thing to do (the class is only just starting), so I was 90% done within 30 minutes. Unfortunately, after having been 90% done, I came across a bug in my code. My fractions kept on getting zeroes in their denominators for no apparent reason.
I spent the past week thinking that the problem resided in how I was using my structures. I reformatted my code about five times over the course of the week only to realize that the problem wasn't in the structures, but rather in something much simpler. An earlier piece of code was not doing what it was supposed to be doing. Instead of making sure that the denominator wasn't equal to 0, it *set* the denominator equal to 0. I made an amateur mistake, and it took me a week to find it.
Such is the life of a coder...

Though I happily took care of this with a very...painful (for the 360...if it could feel pain...)...method. Old driver from no-longer-used golf club set + Xbox 360 = lot of flying parts. Really, just picture that scene from Office Space with the copier and you almost have exactly what I did. :)

For some reason, coding can make coders feel really stupid...
Take, for example, a piece of code that I had written for my programming class:
Array Array::operator =(const Array&other) {
*this = Array(other);
return *this;
}
For those who aren't coders, this piece of code is telling the computer how to make one Array object equal to another Array object, which I attempted to pull off by referencing a piece of code that did an almost equivalent task. Unfortunately, in my endeavors, I had caused this code to assign one Array object the value of another.
Doing this is very much like putting "Sauté the onions" as a step in directions on how to sauté onions. Needless to say, unhappiness ensued.

my little sister and my dad are being a pain in my ssa. first my dad witches and complains at me cause i'm always in my room. well who cares! i'm 18, and i dont wanna put up with him and my sister in the same room. and i its bad enough when they start bitching. THEN i'm in my room listening to my music and my brat little sister (who is 12) comes in to the room (that we [unfortunately] share) and she starts listening to this stripper music and acts all "amazing" at singing when she sounds like a cow in labor... actually that sound's much better. so i'm blasting my ears out with my techno to drown her out. then to top off the best day of my life, my teeth hurt, i need to go to the dentist to get them fixed but my 'rental took me off his insurance so i'm nailed till i get a job with benefits. so i cant go get my teeth checked out. AND i totally sipsed off my BF so now he's really upset cause i forgot to compliment something that he's amazing at. and i tell him everyday when i'm with him on SL (second-life) and so i hurt him and i'm about to blow.... i'm so glad this place is here or i would seriosly end up strangling my sister and balling my eyes out... FML

Murphy has not failed in his duties of sabotaging my family's Thanksgiving dinner.
Unfortunately, it seems that the only way to escape unfortunate circumstance in a Thanksgiving meal for my family is to eat out. We did not eat out this year. Consequently, Thanksgiving did not go as well as planned. (The oven was left off for the turkey's first 2 hours in the oven.)

Every Furry-related site I try to go to on the computers in school (with the exception of here and a Furry humor archive that hasn't been updated in 5 years) is blocked by the firewall because they are in the category of "adult.lifestyles". The majority of them are PG for Christ's sake!

People dont understand us. And because of that ,they fear us. fear creates doubt and darkens the mind. This finaly leads to anger and destruction. When they cant destroy us, they ignore us. When they cant Ignore us, they catagories us based on assumptions. This finaly leads to a false acceptince. And is where we are at now. They accept we exist, but the assumption is that all of furry fandom is perverted and sick. So they cast us into another bizzar realm of fetishes and forget us. Atleast until they can find something else to scrutenice.
The other thing is, the host probably labeled it under Adult lifestyles/Adult Content. Wich means it may contain materials, not suitable for minors. You might be mature enough, but there are allot who are not. So Labeling it properly is important, as to avoid legal issues. As well the internet is world wide. In some countries, even showing your ancle is forbidden. So Labeling helps to collect the value of the site for others.

It's very disconcerting to see a weird screen and hear random choppy noises after bumping the case of a running computer. It's even more disconcerting to hear beep codes upon trying to reboot the computer.
Thankfully, the problem was nothing more than a loose stick of RAM. Nevertheless, it took a few trips betwen the computer in question and a functional computer with internet (on a different floor) as well as a disproportionate amount of time on Google to fix the problem...

Have you considered presenting your parents with the case that these forums are part of a functional community that could potentially be (or already is) a positive influence on you? If they are concerned about these forums affecting you or your growth as a person adversely, even things as basic as the rules thread might belay those fears.

My school is trying to block access to here and, coupled with my parents' ban, makes it nearly impossible to post. But, as I have said, where there is a will there is a way. :)
Have you considered presenting your parents with the case that these forums are part of a functional community that could potentially be (or already is) a positive influence on you? If they are concerned about these forums affecting you or your growth as a person adversely, even things as basic as the rules thread might belay those fears.
I've tried and I've failed. Still, it won't hurt to try again. Problem is my father. He thinks this forum has caused "certain things" (some of you will know what I'm talking about).

Last Fall and this Spring, I participated in a math competition. Recently, my dad looked up my score for the second half (the Spring part) and showed me this score.
I already knew at the time that my Fall score was competitive. Unfortunately, it turns out that I did a lot of stupid stuff on the Spring test, as I had missed four questions out of the thirteen I answered (in comparison, I answered fourteen questions and missed only one on my Fall test). This was largely a consequence of my sleep schedule being severely out of whack for the three weeks prior to this test.
It *really* bugged me when I realized that had I done at least as well as I had done on the first test, I would have gotten first in my region and placed around the middle of the top 20 nationally.
...Please excuse me as I try to scrub off my own footprints from the back of my head...

1. My mother is sick this week, so her and I couldn't see my grandmother for Easter and also to celebrate my birthday.
2. The weather here all week is supposed to be cloudy and rainy.
3. Had a really boring birthday on Monday. Nobody to spend it with.
4. Can't go to a model contest this coming weekend as the friend I usually go with since he gives me rides, had surgery.
5. Another modeler "beat me to the punch" so to speak and built a model Habakkuk ship before I did. I thought I was the only person doing one. Now I'm "second". :(

In a different forum a girl I really don't like returned after a long and happy absence.
All she does basically is show off her boobs for attention, acts like a child, and screams "LOVE ME."
I'm a mod on that forum too. I tried locking one of her threads (which was basically her posting more pictures of her boobs with the subject "LOVE ME NOW." Literally) but one of the other mods keeps unlocking it because he wants more pictures of her boobs.
No one likes her except for the ones that fall for her boobs trick.
If I was an admin I would have banned her long ago.
Unfortunately the admin is against anyone getting banned if they show boobs.

I was taking a load of laundry out of the dryer this morning, and I filled up the clothes basket and my dog had followed me down to the laundry room without me knowing. I went to step back and tripped over her... I didnt want to fall on top of her, so I dropped the laundry basket, and tried to catch myself before I fell. Well, I grabbed the top of the open dryer door, and then fell, pressing all of my 175 lbs of weight against the dryer door, catching my index finger in the door. I reactivly ripped it out of the door, ripping the skin off of the top of my finger. It bled for 4 hours. Im bandaged up now.

You edged me out... I got my bill a few days ago... a bit over $18,000.00. Do like I'm going to do and pay a small amount every month... whats the worst they can do? Open you back up and stick your appendix back in? Id get that incision checked out though.

Our sewer line has nearly clogged up again recently. Tree roots have once again wormed their way into the outdoor sewer pipe. The machine that is supposed to fix this problem with reasonable ease was ineffective due to poor piping practices in the original install of the sewer pipes. I was digging three somewhat deep (3 ft./1m) holes with my dad today in an (unsuccessful) endeavor to remedy this issue. More likely than not, I will have more holes to look forward to tomorrow. Yay.
On a similar note, the aforementioned problem has also postponed the load of laundry that I had wanted to do.

On a lighter note from my mass of extreme life problems right now that threaten my existence... I am SOOOO sick of not having A/C. My room is 95 F right now with 76% humidity according to my gauges I have in here. It's awful to try to be in, let alone sleep.

My brother just got another COD game, which I hate(FPS's are typically not my thing, only exception being 1 game), and now hes gonna hog the PS3 for the next day or two, effectively making me wait to play the two games I just got.

Every day for the last 3 weeks I have been going to physical therapy for 8 hours a day. I push through the pain and keep going to get the exercises done... now i find out that because I can do the stuff they dont believe me about my pain levels and are going to release me back to work no restrictions... I have a lower back injury and is making the nerves in my legs act up and I sometimes have problems walking as a result of this lot alone the pain i feel coming from the fact that the nerve is being crushed.

I tell my Mother, who drives me to work, that I'll be coming home later than I normally do. I have about 2 and a half hours before I need to be at work, by the time I get home.
I planned on stopping by my old elementary school, which is 5 minutes away, biking, for an hour or so to train some specific Parkour moves.
2 of my aunts in the room, I tell her this, and it turns into a 10 minute life lesson on planning ahead of time where I need to be, when, and how to think of when I can be somewhere without being late, and being prepared. The sheer thought of not preparing 10 days in advanced to be somewhere I could easily get to in 5 minutes!
I tried to tell her that despite having to go to work in 2 and a half hours after I normally get home, the place I would have been is 5 minutes away from my house! This is not such a complicated process!
tl;dr: Mom, I'm not stupid, please stop turning everything I say into a life lesson...Seriously!

If they dont know you as the Dew Dog, I would put on your fursuit, knock at the door, and the second that they open it force your way in a bit and yell RAAAAWR!!, and stick your paws out at them. Then run away before they can even figure out what just happened. It probably wont solve the noise problem, but it would be funny. (In my demented mind)

I work with animal vaccines (sending them to our stores to be sold). The refrigerators we keep them keeps failing because of how hot it is outside so i have to try and keep ahead of them and move things from the dieing ones to the ones that are working at that moment XDDD

That might be because those cafe computers don't have a recent enough version of Flash.
If these cafe computers will let you run programs from a flash drive, you could always get a flash drive and install a portable IRC client (such as this one (http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/kvirc_portable), for instance) onto it. You could even use altirc.furtopia.org on port 80 (the standard HTML port) if they block the port the main chat server uses for IRC (port 6007). I took a proficiency test for discrete math last Saturday. I
reviewed learned the material from the lecture notes from that class's session last semester (which didn't get taken down from the web), but I didn't get through all of the lecture notes in the week before the proficiency test.
I passed. However, of the 100 points on the exam, a 1 point question and a 14 point question were dependent on transitive relationships. I missed reading that lecture by four days worth of lecture notes (out of 40 in total), and even though I had a guess as to what a transitive relationship was, I did not attempt either question.
My guess was *extremely* close to being right. Had I been able to guess that correctly, I probably would have gotten an A instead of a C. Technically, my grade on this thing doesn't affect anything other than pass/fail and the corresponding credit, but getting a C on anything vexes me greatly.

My Astronomy class uses i-clickers for mini multiple choice quizzes, which serve as an attendance grade. If you don't know what an i-clicker is, it's a device that has an on/off button and buttons A-E which is used to poll an audience (class) in the style of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
Today, mine refused to turn on for the first question of the class period. Neither a dozen or so presses of the on/off button nor a smack or two was able to bring this thing to life in time for me to answer the question (and the battery was too new to be dead). As if to spite me, it subsequently turned on before the next question popped up.
It was a bit of an annoyance, to say the least.

You might actually find yourself better off! With only two hours of sleep, you might have an easier time waking up, because you'll basically never have gone to sleep in the first place. The worst (at least for me) is trying to wake up after 4.5 hours of sleep, because at that point you're trying to rouse yourself from the very middle of your sleep cycle and are groggy the whole rest of the day.
Just don't forget to carry around snacks to keep yourself on a constant sugar rush. ;)
(I know this is technically terrible advice, but desperate academic times call for desperate measures.)

Sent out emails and called 20 tv stations and have only gotten a couple replies and no returned phone calls. I work for non-profit orgs making PSAs right now. So TV stations give us a cold shoulder sometimes since they don't get fees for psas but only air a few of them. Luckily it's not a big deal yet since it will be a while before I submit things.

My daily frustration for over a year: Trying to make the engine nacelles for my Habakkuk model. I've given up any hope of finishing them. I used to think I could overcome and solve almost any modeling problem, but I guess not. This is one model project where I feel like I failed. :'(

would continue the contract. Now they are telling us they have no money to pay for past work done, could not promise payment on work done on this years budget. We had to walk off the job. Had to eat the cost of moving the equipment, $1000 of lost wages for me, plus my business pardners wages.

When I was trying out smartphones, that was the thing that really bugged me about the iPhone - I couldn't type on it for the life of me! Android's on-screen keyboard seems much more intelligent... or maybe it's just my phone, but either way, I have no problems with non-Apple touchscreen keyboards.

About 3 weeks ago I bought my 1st pair of heels for this leadership conference I'm going to tomorrow, and this morning I woke up and my dog had them all torn to pieces! I had to work 6:30am-noon, then rush out to the store to find some decent business clothes for this conference. I get home late, have to cook dinner for an ettiquette dinner I had tonight, and get there half an hour late. Then right after we eat, I fall asleep sitting up.

Try not to feel to bad about it. Also, don't blame the people for complaining because they do have legitimate complaints. Instead, take it as a learning experience. It's harder to pull off an event like that then you thought it'd be.

Computer equipment with "suicide batteries." To explain, many different computer systems and other computerized devices have battery-backed RAM to save certain system information once you turn the system's power off. Battery-backed RAM is used pretty widely-- if you are reading my post with a PC right now then you will be familiar with battery backed RAM because it there is a little CR2032 lithium coin cell battery located on your PC's motherboard that is used to power your PC's system clock and save your CMOS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonvolatile_BIOS_memory) settings whenever your PC is powered down. The battery-backed RAM on a PC isn't generally a problem-- if the battery goes dead on a PC it is easy to replace, and it is not difficult to make you custom changes to the CMOS once the battery is replaced, that is if you even have any custom changes to make at all. But not every computer manufacturer was as sane in their designing, and some were down-right devious.
The manufacturer that is plaguing me today is Sun Microsystems. In Sun workstations there is a battery-backed NVRAM chip that stores system settings just like on a PC, but there are two crucial differences that make me classify it as a "suicidal" machine.
First, the battery cannot be replaced. This is because it is actually located inside the tiny little NVRAM chip! That's right-- to replace the battery you have to replace your entire NVRAM chip! Even worse, many of the older NVRAM chips that older Sun machines used are no longer produced, and if you buy a "new old-stock" NVRAM chip chances are that the battery inside of it has already run down in that chip as well.
Secondly, the Sun workstation requires the information in the NVRAM chip in order to boot properly! That information, once lost, is not easily recoverable on new Sun workstations and is not recoverable at all on older ones, so you can end up with a brick if you didn't take the time to use the OpenBoot commands to record the information stored on the NVRAM chip while its battery still had a charge.
In my case, the offending workstations are two Sun Ultra 1 Model 200E's. One of these I already new the battery was dead on, which was why I was able to buy it for 99-cents. I can live with that. But there was a second one of these systems that I bought for a lot more that was supposed to have a good NVRAM, and I unfortunately found out the hard way that it doesn't. Luckily, with a lot of research and some bitwise XORing I was able to reverse engineer the values that were originally on their NVRAMs (this is only possible thanks to the fact that the Sun Ultra 1 is one of the somewhat more recoverable "newer" models of Sun workstations that I mentioned above), but to get these machines to function I have to spend 15-minutes every time that I turn one of them on to store the correct values back into its NVRAM one byte at a time and reset its system clock. Not fun. Not fun at all. Why oh why did Sun have to use battery-containing NVRAM chips? Unfortunately they are not the only offender-- systems from Silicon Graphics (like my Indys and my Challenge S) and DEC VAXStations use these same kinds of battery containing NVRAM chips, and I am sure that there are many other systems out there that use them as well. >:(
Probably the worst offender of using suicide batteries in their machines was the arcade game producer Capcom. Their CPS-2 systems, which were used for such popular arcade games like the Streetfighter 2 series and the Darkstalkers series, used battery-backed RAM to store the game's decryption keys as an anti-piracy measure. To explain, the ROMs that stored the code for their CPS-2 games were encrypted to prevent them from being copied and pirated. To play the game, the ROMs were decrypted by the decryption keys stored in the battery-backed RAM. Once that battery, which was soldered onto the game's "B" board, dies, you lose the decryption keys and you can no longer play the game. I recently bought a "Darkstalkers" CPS-2 A+B board on eBay, and am still trying to figure out how I can desolder the old battery from the board and solder in a new battery while doing it quickly and safely enough as to not lose the still currently intact decryption keys. In other words, I need to try to not brick the game while trying to prevent the game from slowly bricking itself... *sigh*
I'm sure few to none of you were particularly interested in reading anything that I just wrote about above, but it was still a bit therapeutic for me to rant about it! :)

Update: They were trying to serve papers, they just had a neighbors name attached to my house. I'm told there is no problem, I won't be bothered anymore. If they can't get the address correct the first time, I'm not feeling reassured, only frustrated.

I've had a lot of "How can I be so smart and so stupid at the same time?!?!? (http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/im_an_idiot.png)" moments today. In my most recent one, I realized that I've been interpreting an as-of-yet unexpanded text field's contents as a complete set of instructions. In reality, the unexpanded text field shows only the first line of the corresponding instruction, and clicking an arrow next to this first line (or any of the nearby text) expanded the text field to show the full set of instructions.
And I *wish* that I had been smart enough to figure this out. I only figured this out by accident; I have an occasional habit of highlighting text as I'm reading it, and I clicked the triggering text as a consequence. I could have very well gone through an entire semester not knowing that I was missing out on about 10% of my assignment instructions had this not happened...

My latest aggravation: An error in eBay's system causing me to lose a once in a lifetime auction! I have been an eBay member for 11-years now, and it is the primary source where I get the animation production artwork and the vintage/unusual computers that I collect. I have been in-between jobs for quite a while now, and as a result I can't afford to do much (if any) collecting of either anymore. With that said, every once in a long while I see something that is worth a huge amount of money and that I want dearly (but can never hope to be able to afford under normal circumstances) listed on eBay for almost nothing. In this case what was listed was an *extremely* rare Hewlett-Packard zx6000 duel-Itanium2 workstation with 12GB of RAM and a SCSI hard disk installed.
To those who don't follow these kinds of things, scoring any kind of Itanium-based machine for cheap isn't easy because they aren't very common, are made by only a few companies, and are extremely high-end corporate-grade stuff costing in the tens of thousands of dollars when new. Finding an Itanium-based workstation however is even more difficult, because only one company ever made them, Hewlett-Packard, and they only made them for less than two years because they didn't sell. The zx6000 is the high-end model of HP Itanium2-based workstations, and it sold for between $7,000 and $27,000 new, which was only a few years ago. These things are like dream machines to me because they are both very unusual and are geared more towards high-performance computing applications (a.k.a. supercomputing), which with computers happen to be my two most favorite things! Even better, this one was a complete functioning system, and it wasn't selling for $1,000+ used on eBay like these system tend to do. Instead, it's current bid price was $50 (!), which is a price that even I could afford! In over a year-and-a-half of searching for this particular model of machine, I had never come across one for that cheap, let alone one that was complete, functioning, and tricked out with duel-processors and 12GB of RAM! I even had what I was going to use this machine for all worked out, and I had a special Itanium version of Linux that I downloaded from the CERN high energy physics laboratory in Switzerland already burned and ready to install on this machine once I won it!
But as I mentioned above I didn't win it. Don't get me wrong-- I am no stranger to losing eBay auctions. In fact, I probably only win less than 1 out of every 10 things that I ever hope to get because I don't have a lot of spare money and can only buy the least expensive of things on rare occasions. But I didn't lose this auction because I was outbid. Instead, in the crucial last minute of the auction, I lost it due to a bug in the eBay service that prevented me from placing my bid. To explain, eBay, in their never ending lack of wisdom, decided to roll out some unnecessary cosmetic changes to their site's user-interface last week. I know this because I visit eBay almost every day, so I notice every little change to their site that they make. Apparently, they haven't worked all of the bugs out of their new changes yet, because something they did screwed me royally out of that zx6000 auction yesterday. I had signed into eBay like I always do, and in the last 30-seconds of the auction I placed my bid, like I always do when I need to get something for cheap. Only this time, instead of placing my bid, eBay instead greeted me with a page that read, "Thank you for signing out!" Except that I hadn't signed out-- I had just tried to place a bid within minutes after signing in! At panic speed I re-signed into eBay, only to have them deliver me not back to the auction's listing, but to an eBay advertisement page promoting some fashion line that they were developing with some celebrity... Even more panicked I click past the ad but eBay still didn't bring me back to the auction listing-- it instead sent me to my "My eBay" page! Desperate now, I tried to find the zx6000 auction listed on my "My eBay" page so that I could click back to it, but by then the auction had already ended, and some other schlub had won my dream HPC machine, with at least $1,000 worth of RAM installed in it alone, for a mere $51.
I was so livid at this turn of events that I was literally beside myself. Here it is, 14-hours after this happened, and I am still so ticked off that I feel the need to rant about it here! I had been hoping to get a HP zx6000 for over a year-and-a-half now, but never could because their price is usually 10 to 20 times more than I can ever hope to afford. Even broken ones tend to cost more than I could ever hope to pay. But here was one, a nice one, that I could afford, and I never even got a chance to take a crack at it because eBay decided to sign me out instead of placing my bid. And it's not like I don't know how to use eBay-- in 11-years of bidding on that site with hundreds of successful transactions to my credit I have never had eBay dump me out of their system like this before! I was so mad that I actually called eBay customer support and waited a half-hour on hold just so that I could yell at them and tell them just how upset that I was. The eBay representative said that she would forward my complaint to their technical department, but I know that won't change anything, and besides, my once in a lifetime auction is already gone. It's not like they will re-list the auction because their faulty system both screwed me out of a computer and screwed the seller out of how much more I was willing to pay for it than he got.
More aggravating is the fact is that the eBay system has features that seem to randomly break all of the time-- I know since as I mentioned above, I am on eBay nearly every day, both as a buyer and as a seller. In my experience, it is actually pretty common for this tool or that tool (especially custom-named watch lists) to suddenly stop working, and then start working again 24-hours later just as mysteriously as they had stopped. I swear to God that their programmers must not bother to regression test anything before they make their new changes go live! Most of eBay's problems are mere nuisances though-- what was different this time around was that this was the first time that I had lost an auction due to a site bug, and that is aggravating to the extreme! Chances are good that I will never see a deal like this ever again, and there is nothing that I can do about it! I am sorry for ranting on and on like this, but since eBay will probably never look into my complaint I need to at least talk about it to somebody! >:(

Oh dude, that is incredibly harsh. I've been denied winning auctions for things that are probably of rarity comparable to that workstation due to eBay deciding to be moronic and it makes me want to crawl into a hole and die when it happens. I'm beginning to rely more on forum marketplaces than eBay because:
- The prices on eBay are typically extortionate, though there are occasional bargains.
- eBay doesn't like me having nice things so it likes to lag when logging in and other such nonsense, which irks me more than anything else! D:
At least it didn't prevent me for winning a cheap auction for a SEGA Mega Drive the other day. My nostalgia gaming setup is almost complete :P
Anyway, on topic, I have a horrible cold or some other similar illness and it is punishing me no end. I can hardly talk because my throat is so sore, I have a constant headache and... bleh. Horrid.

I looked up the grades from my last semester just a few moments ago, and the experience was... bittersweet.
On one hand, I knew this past semester was sub-par for me, and I was expecting a GPA that was about .75 lower than what I actually got. Not only that, but my GPA managed to dip only the slightest smidgen below the "below average" mark (which is good, considering that the past semester was, as mentioned before, sub-par)...
...On the other hand, I still have to somehow explain the GPA I did get to my mom and my sister... as well as the fact that one of my grades was a C+...

Could anything be more annoying than people carrying their dogs around instead of walking them properly?! I see this almost all the time and as far as I'm concerned, canine fitness is just as important as human fitness. If that wasn't enough, one in five dogs are already overweight as a result of not giving them enough exercise and/or overfeeding them.

...is a massive critical bug in Red Hat/ Fedora Linux project that hasn't been fixed in literally years. While there are certain people out there, including at least a couple furs here at Furtopia, that will tell you with an almost religious fervor that the world of Linux and open source software is a magical land of rainbows and lollipops where "all bugs are shallow" and that the "Bazaar" model of software development will ensure that "almost every problem will be characterized quickly and the fix obvious to someone," I can tell you from experience that this is not always the case.
To go into the details of my latest frustration, I was having problems with a service that I am using called "dnsmasq" failing to start at boot time on my server running Scientific Linux 5 (which is a free release of RHEL5 just like the equivalent version of CentOS). I was having a hard time troubleshooting this dnsmasq problem because the failure message disappeared far too quickly from the boot screen for me to be able to read it, and I couldn't get the boot screen to pause at the correct point by pressing Ctrl+S. Despite this small setback, I still didn't think that it was all that big of a deal because Linux is supposed to log these kinds of boot-time failure messages automatically in a file called "boot.log". I opened up my "boot.log" file in a text editor and I saw nothing-- the file was completely blank with a file size of zero. In fact, all of my boot.log files were blank with a file size of zero, which meant that my SL5 server had not been logging any boot-time failure or success messages at all! I researched the logging problem on the web, and found the Red Hat Bugzilla Reports for bugs #163461 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=163461) and #151238 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=151238).
According to the bug reports, back in the days of Fedora Core 4, which was way back in 2005, the Fedora developers decided to remove Fedora's then working boot-time logging system, "initlog". In the words of Fedora developer in charge of this logging system, "initlog was removed as we're planning on moving to something more flexible and sane, but the code isn't there yet." So in other words, the genius developers at Fedora decided to dike (http://catb.org/jargon/html/D/dike.html) out their boot-time logging system *before* the replacement system was written-- effectively leaving Fedora, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, and Scientific Linux without a logging system that records the loading of services at boot time. This problem was labeled as a "high priority" issue in Fedora Core 4, however it was never fixed and the new logging system became vaporware (http://catb.org/jargon/html/V/vaporware.html). Not only was this problem never fixed for Fedora 4, but was it never fixed for Fedora 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15 (the current stable version) as well! This means that this feature is also not working in any RHEL 5.x-based release (CentOS 5.x, SL 5.x, etc.)! I can't even wrap my head around the fact that such a critical broken feature, which is required for both troubleshooting and the proper running of many initscripts, has been left unfixed in an enterprise-class operating system for six years! A fix to this problem is now being promised for some future release of Fedora called "Plymouth" (the current unstable version is called "Rawhide," so we're still not there yet), but that doesn't help my server's current operating system or the dnsmasq problem that I am trying to troubleshoot right now.
Out of the dozen or so Linux distros that I have tried over the years I used to swear by my RHEL5-based Scientific Linux installation as the Linux distro that I got most of my useful real work done on, but now my faith in it has been severely shaken. Like many of the disgruntled Fedora and RHEL users mentioned in the bug reports linked to above, OpenSUSE is suddenly starting to look a little bit more alluring...
Now I got to go back to the frustrating task of trying to troubleshoot my current problem without the benefit of the boot.log file... @#$%ing Red Hat! >:(

I recently purchased a used Rackable Systems C1001 1U rackmount server a few months ago off of eBay. While the server is about 6-years old, it is a very nice piece of kit for what I paid for it. After the server was delivered I tested it as thoroughly as I conveniently could, running Memtest86+ on it for over 24-hours, running system stability testing programs, etc. No problems. All of the tests passed and everything seemed to be working fine. A couple of months later I take this machine, which as I mentioned above had tested good, and I install it into my basement server rack. I wanted to install Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS "Lucid Lynx" on it tonight, so I hooked the server up to my power strip, KVM switch, and Ethernet switch, fired it up, and booted it off of an Ubuntu CD-ROM. At first everything seemed to be proceeding fine, until the installation program went to partition the server's disks-- oddly the installed hard disks were not detected and could not be found. Wondering if this issue was being caused by an incorrect BIOS or hardware RAID controller setting, I decided to reboot the computer so that I could quickly check those settings out. So I commanded Ubuntu to restart the computer, and while Ubuntu was in the process of shutting down it hung and became completely unresponsive. That was also odd. Eventually, I had to hold in the server's front power button to finally shut the server down.
Here is where the real fun began: After waiting a few moments, I pushed the power button again to turn the server back on. The server's fans started to spin up, but then immediately shut off. Alarmed, I hit the power button again, and once again the server started to power up but immediately powered-down again. No BIOS beep codes, no POST screen, nothing. Just a quick power-up power-down every time I hit the power button.
I needed this server to work tonight-- I am already extremely behind on setting it up for a high-priority project, and I was hoping to catch up by working through the night installing and configuring everything that I needed on this server. Instead, now I have to unscrew it and pull it out of the rack, open it up, and hook it up to my power supply tester, see if the processor fans are working, etc. at the very least. I pray to God that the problem is just some sort of loose cable connection somewhere, because I don't have the time or the money right now to replace any of the internal components in this thing! >:( Believe me, if I had money to burn I wouldn't be buying used server equipment on eBay to begin with! >:(

Nearly got in a rear-end collision with someone entering a 70-mph highway at only 30-mph. He was distracted by an SUV suddenly stopping and pulling to the side of that entrance ramp. He swerved around the SUV and rolled into traffic without signalling of accelerating. Had someone been "drafting" behind me when I had to panic brake, some bumper would have been eaten. Mr. Oblivious, upon seeing my bright headlights and hearing the horn blaring, simply shrugged and sped away.

Apparently, today at the Mobile World Congress 12 convention that is being held in Barcelona, Spain, Nokia just unveiled a new Symbian-based mobile phone called the Nokia PureView 808 with a 41-megapixel camera and a f2.4 Carl Zeiss lens. It's a big deal since I guess most smartphone cameras are around the 8 to 12-megapixel range. I don't take too much interest in smartphone technology usually, but I figured that I would post this here because I saw your daily frustration earlier and then was reminded of it when I came across the headline for this phone on The Register IT news website.

My public service organization's state conference is 6-7 counties away this weekend. They think I'm coming. I responded on Facebook "no" to the invitation weeks ago. It's a 5-to-6 hour round trip and the conference itself is barely that long, not including lunch.

I'm taking a high level computer engineering course this semester. Half of the semester is spent on a single machine (software programming) problem (also known as an MP), which is, in short, "build an extremely simple OS". It's an MP that, unlike previous MPs in this and other classes, is done in groups of 4. It also a large part of why the class is notorious for being a lot of work.
I sent a group wide email yesterday asking for times during a typical week that the other group members would be available to work on the MP. The grade for the MP's first part is being given Monday. Work needs to be done on it over the weekend. Only one of the other three members has engaged nontrivially in correspondence. A significant portion of the MP grade is based upon the group's ability to work as a group.
I am more than a little concerned about this.

A few minutes ago, I had an e-mail from the friends of South Devon College (where I studied motor vehicle maintenance) saying that I couldn't wear my fursuit to the open day tomorrow (as of now) as they're already expecting two mascots to appear. Although I can accept that, I'm now slightly annoyed by the fact that they think a wolf would be rather stressful yet unpopular with very young children. My group for a computer engineering class did *not* get full credit for today' s checkpoint. We got 0 credit for implementing the file system.
Mind you, we did have proof of a working file system. I had demonstratable file system reads on my laptop's development environment. It just wasn't a lab computer, and the TAs would only accept code that executed on a lab computer.
Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. I had merge issues on my end. Manually copying the generated file and corresponding source to a lab computer resulted in the same code crashing when run, with or without recompile. A second attempt of copying the code to a lab computer failed similarly. The deadline to demo code came and passed as we were fumbling to get the code from my laptop to *any* lab computer, in *any* user's environment.
It was a very frustrating experience, to say the least.

My credit card statement shows some charges that I didn't make. One was refunded on the same statement, but another is for an internet service that I also know wasn't purchased by me. It may be that someone has hacked into a website and is making test purchases to see if they're noticed before making any big moves. The card may have to be reissued--and we're mere days from the con.

I'm marginally weirded out by somebody on FA.
A few weeks ago, an individual posted a comment on one of my FA journals.
...Actually, saying it is "one of my journals" is technically inaccurate. I have only one journal entry on FA. It's 3 1/2 years old. It's not unreasonable to assume that a poster would have simply assumed that the most recent journal was... well... recent. Having said that, the question they asked was answered in the journal. I replied to them, reiterated what the journal said, and then noted that it was long since obsolete.
Just today, they sent me a PM stating, in short, that they were an extreme fan of Yoshi. Within in the same hour that the PM was sent, they added two pieces of artwork to their faves that happened to reside within the front page listing of my faves. In comparison, the other four faves on their page were faved 2 months ago, 5 months ago, 1 year ago, and 1 year ago.
They also watched me. Keep in mind that I don't really know this person (and they don't really know me), and that I post art at a frequency of about once every 4-8 months or so.
...They haven't done anything wrong, per se, but as I said before, I'm marginally weirded out. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to handle them, to be honest...

Two years ago, I was in the Parkland Wind Ensemble as a percussionist. The Parkland Wind Ensemble performed for the Parkland Honors Convocation, the Parkland graduation ceremony, and one of the UofI graduation ceremonies. I forgot the percussion music for the Parkland graduation's recessional. Unhappiness ensued.

This year, I was in the Parkland Wind Ensemble as a percussionist. This weekend, the Parkland Wind Ensemble is performing for the Parkland Honors Convocation, the Parkland graduation ceremony, and one of the UofI graduation ceremonies. Maybe you're starting to sense a pattern?
This year, I was exceptionally paranoid to make sure that I didn't mess up *ANYTHING* for these last three performances. Somehow, despite this exceptional paranoia, I ended up forgetting to pack the ensemble's mallet bag with the rest of the percussion equipment. You guessed it: unhappiness ensued.

I was mildly sick a few days ago, which is to say that I could foresee the possibility of soon becoming moderately sick given my then current symptoms. Now I'm moderately sick, which is to day that I've been (potential TMI alert) painfully coughing up substantial amounts of phlegm out of a sore throat. This is also, more likely than not, only the *start* of things.

i don't think i can stand my "friends" any more. the only reason i put friends in "-" is because i don't think i can really consider them real friends with all the messed up stuff they do to me when all i am is nice to them. their two brothers that lived next to me for about 8 years so i knew them for a long time, but they just don't stop with the so called jokes. everyday all day they do this it's getting to the point where i might flip out and really hurt one of them, but i don't want to do that. i tell them all the time to just stop there's no reason for any thing that their doing, but they don't care what i have to say. i did it. today i couldn't take it any more and i had to fight my now ex friend G-MO, and his younger brother George. we ended up fighting in the parking lot of a McDonald's. it started with words then it got to the point where both of them started beating me up, but i still got some good punches in before they ganged up on me. regardless to say i didn't loos the fight and i didn't win it either. one thing is for sure I'm not going to be friends with either of them again.

Got a mysterious billing statement from the local medical group for $224! I only saw a nurse practitioner once and already paid the $86 that was originally billed to me.
UPDATE
Talked to the billing person at the doctor's office and was told the bill was for diagnostic work on the bits they cut off of me. They did not have insurance info at the hospital lab, hence the large number in whole dollars. Insurance info now added, I get another 45 days to pay. The bill should be lower next time--I hope.

He finally found the disused railroad siding and is heading for the singed rail bridge over nearby Dutch Creek. Last week he decided to carve a path through the next-door neighbor's lot and was caught on my trail camera. The flash must have surprized him.

One of them is scared of phones (I don't know why, seems to be a recent development, probably to do with his medication in some way), lives a fair distance from me, can't drive and is on more medication that makes his memory be almost non-existant. The notification system on FB is the only reason he replies to me half the time as it keeps harrassing him XD And he's been such a good friend to me that I really don't want to fall out of contact with him. When I get my car to my house (it's being stored at my parent's house two hours away until I get a parking permit) and he is on less meds, then we might be able to communicate in some other way, but for the time being, I'd rather be stressed out of my skull than fall out of touch with him.

If they are very good friends of yours, I'm sure you could find another avenue of communication between them. I thought the same thing too, but then one night I just decided to quit for good. I found that when I quit Facebook, the friends that really wanted to communicate with me found another way, and I found a way to communicate with them as well. It is possible. ;)
I am having the same problem, people here think that not having a Facebook is some kind of "Identity loss", they give me weird looks when I say I am going to quit Facebook (soon). Its just a waste of time, if you really want to know me talk to me face to face. I think its just like Messenger, it will lose popularity over time and people will find something else to do.

I'm fine with hunting, as long as you aren't going overkill (combat shotgun to a rabbit for example) what drives me up the wall is WASTEFULNESS! if you shot something, you don't just take the head, you take the whole thing and use every single part of it. i'm fine with rod & reel fishing, but if you read my report on overfishing and what TRAWLING does, it would make most poachers look like children. not to say that poachers should be off the hook in anyway, but people need to give fish(and the oceans in general) more frigin respect. And no, i do not like the idea of shooting or killing carnivores unless you beat them fair and square. (a knife fight with a bear perhaps?)

Look, im not a supporter of inhumane practices. But it is a dog-eat-dog world, and predators kill, bottom line. i love animals (well... not all of them but really, who likes mosquitos?) and i know that it is wrong to make them suffer any more than need be. maybe that isn't good enough for some people, but it does not mean i should be compared to a poacher. Flying with my university! I'm a student pilot and I'm not doing to hot right now. I haven't flown in about 3 weeks due to cancellations and weather. So I am out of practice and I'm just not the best at remembering things, like some of the FAR's. I can't even start the engine right sometimes :( I'm at the point were I want to leave the program and start a different career path :(. I have a check ride tomorrow with the head flight instructor so I'm not sure how it's going to turn out because I failed the last two. :'( I don't think my flying career is "taking off" right now.

I have an eBay customer who couldn't pay me in the 5-day deadline, now claims that free shipping was offered in the auctions she won. The listings do not show free shipping, but she claims they do and has "proof". I think she's scamming me. Anyway, the items were relisted.

okay this art tablet is starting to piss me off... i just cant find the right program... gimp is just all complicated and stuff, artrage is ugly, and i have no idea how to use it. pretty much the main problem is i have no idea how to use any of these programs because they just trow a bunch of random crap into them. god i thought i could just get this tablet and start drawing but i never knew it would get me this frustrated..... iv got nothing better to do right now so i want to draw but how the hell do i use this damn thing? searched all over the internet, the users manual is crap other than that there is nothing even related to how to use it. i think it would be simpler to just buy an erasable pen and start using that instead of this damn thing....

This really irritates me as well. Especially as the majority of states have passed legislation making English official within their premiss. Why we cant have an amendment to the U.S constitution specifying a official language, at least in the case of official government function is beyond me. In particular when I have to deal with people who have been resident in the U.S longer than I have been alive and still refuse to learn or utilize the English language, expecting to be accommodated. My great great maternal grandfather immigrated from Prussia, and guess what...he and his children learned English.

In my neighborhood there is one dude who is motorcyclist and he has harley. And he goes to work around 6:00-7:00 but he is so good person (not in sarcastic way) that he walks his bike around 20-40meters when there is no more houses nearby and only then he ignites his motorcycle. :3 (just wanted to tell that good persons do exist)
And to the frustrating thing is that (im still in place what you call highschool) every morning the only thing to eat is rye bread and water xD Because if i buy toast bread everyone eats it before i can even think about it. And when i tell them (brother and mom)(my dad doesn't eat it) they just say "you eat so much of it that go and buy more". And when i got angry about that I bought it and kept it in my room :D I forgot it there and... It got little dry...

being stuck in school where my grades seem to be dropping due to not being able to work. its not like im playing games (desk top hasnt been used in 3+ weeks) most of my time is spent sleeping, doing things that are required to live (eating, drinking, ect) but even on that free time i do have when im not sleeping is spent just sitting somewhere doing completely nothing.
most of the time im joking around with people and im just completely distracted from my problems, and at other times i think about being stressed, and depressed. but once in awhile im hit by something and become really depressed, not sure if there any any specific things that sets it off tho. no idea what im even depressed about during these odd periods of depression (doesnt seem to have anything to do with things in life) im not sure if these will ever go away due to not really tying to and cause but the person who can offer support doesnt even live over here, (and its pretty difficult to tell when im in a mood like this)

thinking about what to do after i drop out of high school and how i will talk to my dad about it (high chance i will have to) if i do get him to find a way to get me out of high school he most likely would expect me to get a job which i dont know any that i will be able to do (since most jobs require some form of social interaction with people)
been thinking about making an indie game, but the problem with that is it would take quite some time with a one person team, and you only get paid after the game is made. would also need to learn some laws, and how to market the game (without using steam, since iv heard that they take around 20%) will also most likely need servers for the game for people's accounts (so its harder to pirate) and a web sight. i could hire people to do that but that would require money which i dont have.

Getting used to waking up early, I already am used to waking up early(it's ok if I'm going somewere early,but if nothing is going on it makes me angry). It sucks during Summer though because I'll be sleeping,then I wake up thinking it's 9am and it's 3am I'm just thinking "what the hell is up?" I'm slowly got used to it though, it's hard for me to go back to sleep so I try to go back sleep. It's not that bad anymore but it did piss me off.
