Title: Awkward Furry Moments?
Post by: Ol Rab on March 22, 2012, 09:37:36 pm

Even before I knew what a furry was, I had the traits of a dragon. For as long as I can remember, I liked reptiles, gobbled up red meat, and hoarded anything shiny.

Though nobody ever knew about the shiny thing. Until a few nights ago.

Mum was picking through my closet and accidently dumped by twenty pound bag full of various trinkets, coins, marbles, plastic gems, ect.

It was a hassle to both pick it all back up, and to explain why I had enough shinies hoarded to drown a chimpanzee.

What are some awkward moments you have had?

I put things in my mouth like pencils when i could just set it down. I also have a deep connection to the outdoors espeacially the mountainous regions. When i was young i would have dreams that i was raised by animals. Also when i fall, jump, or perform amazing acts in my dreams my legs jump it wakes me up. I also grow my nails out, witout thinking, but not very long.
I get picked on for the nails alot. In fact my mom brought up drugs that only need a long pinky nail to snuff. This was very confusing and kinda made me angry. I tend to talk to my pets alot my family thinks it is awkward.

People always mess with me because my nails aren't usually cut. I don't even really notice I have nails, that is until someone blurts out "Woah! Dude your nails are freakishly long. You look like a cat or something!" Although the usual thing they say is I'm a girl just because my nails are slightly longer that a guys. I honestly don't let them grow on purpose, but before I know it, there they are. Also I hold things in my mouth and get funny looks for it. A couple of times, I've stuck money in my mouth and got some "Ewws" and "Gross!" I also don't realize I just put something in my mouth, it just happens naturally. Plus, sometimes I get strange comments because most animals I've seen seem to naturally like me better than most other people. I've come face to face with coyotes before, but never attacked. Once, a wolf walked up to me, and just layed down. It slept a while, then left while I was in my garage. Creepy. But mostly the money and nails things, though.

ive been known to carry various objects in my mouth at work, even when i have a free hand. tough the 12oz hammer is a bit heavy for my jaw strength i still do it.
i get some strange looks because i'm the only one who does it rather than making a second trip to get the last tool. and holding TIG wire in ones mouth is so much easier anyway, frees up your hands so you can hold the job before welding it.

Luckily no one saw me open turn the door handle with my mouth the other week  :-[

i'm getting closer to the danger of making a furry related comment in the workplace, i'll post it if i do  :o

I don't know if this counts, but I found an anti-furry at my school today! :o He is a friend of mine, and we've been friends for a while. He sort of nonchalantly said it to me. He doesn't know I'm a furry, and he didn't come straight out and say, "I'ma furry haterz!" But it was clear enough. Now I know who I WON'T be spilling my "secret" to.  x_x

Holding stuff in mouth, mostly pencils and that jazz

But I rarely have cats hate me, but dogs go berserk the first time we meet, or whenever they are behind a fence [mainly because I antagonize the latter]

Also, I get some people who make the comment about how long my hair and beard is [which is just a thing I like to have]

I walked into the kitchen at work and saw a box of doughnuts on a table.  I opened it and examined the content then began fighting with my self over whether or not to eat one.  I growled at the box then threw down the lid and Roared then I noticed several people sitting at the other tables watching me.  I turned and walked out fast and red faced.

When talking to someone else, I find myself saying 'paws' instead of hands or feet. I snarl and hiss at things I find disagreeable, and that includes in public. After splashing in a puddle I shake off ever limb one at a time. I dislike deep bodies of water. When someone scares me my first instinct is to claw them, though I don't like to wear my nails long. If there is something hanging over my head I have the uncontrollable urge to bat at it. I run up stairs on four legs. If I see a grasshopper, I must pounce on it. I twitch my hand when I feel like twitching my tail. I'm told I have catlike movements in general. I'm an 'outdoor cat', I can't stand being cooped up and I have to go outside in the forest at least for a hour every day. When I am outside, I often rub the side of my face on trees and shred/chew on oak leaves. The list goes on!  (:

I was walking out of work with three boxes of girlscout cookies fondly cuddled in my arms when one of my coworkers saw me and commented that I brought him cookies.  I  squeezed the boxes tight in my arms and growled at my coworker as i backed out the door. :) One must protect one's cookies.

Recently, I was at a boba cafe thing with a couple of cousins. One of them grabs the straw wrapper and holds it really close to the front of my face, occasionally poking me with it (which really annoys me.) I suddenly snap forward and bite the wrapper, yank it from their hand, and starts chewing on it. I got a couple of seconds of stunned reactions followed by a "I think you've been spending too much time with your werewolf deck..."  :D

last wednesday at the EOG, i drew paws on my hands, and chewed my pencil in half. I also growl, bark, hiss, and pant. I chew things all the time (my frisbee has bite marks on it) I have eaten and enjoyed dog treats. The tip of the pile is when i came out to my mom. She was okay about it, (and relieved cause i was kind of nervous and freaking out) but then things got weird. We had a talk about what is okay and what is not, and about "Fantasies" :o. Then she SHOWED me an example of what was not acceptable. :-[ Akward moment.

Haa, only every waking moment!

Awkward is waking up and freaking out because you forgot you have a human body. >.<

Also, sitting on your tail all day? Uncomfortable. Whining that there's a knot in your tail? Awwwwkwaaaaard.

And coming out. Oh, dear god, the coming out. I mean, not that it wasn't already obvious that I'm waaaaay feline, but... when the discussion is sparked by CSI, and you have to explain that no, it's not all about the sexytimes, and that fur-piles can be perfectly G-rated, and NO, I do NOT have a fursuit (I have enough experience to know that a cumbersome costume and a wheelchair are non-mixy things, especially in the loo!) I think they finally got used to it, though.

Oooh, thought of another one.

I swear animals and small children can see or sense my "true form". Swear it by Bast's teats. I've had random cubs look at me and scream "KITTY!"

And I attract animals. Mostly of the feline persuasion, but lately it's been cats, dogs, squirrels, and small humans, the last of which I don't know what I'm supposed to do with.

I often try to lick myself clean and can get rid of annoying housepets by hissing at them.

Also, dogs tend to avoid me and even some feral cats will come up to me and let me pet them.

I guess every since I was growing up, I enjoyed eating a lot of fish. When I was a teenager, I enjoyed clams and still today they are my favorite type of food to eat. I enjoy sushi.

I find the being out in water very soothing and relaxing for me. I enjoy listening to rain fall and I will just go stand out in the rain when there is not a thunder storm.

I have the tendency to make noises rather like a cat... I also had a tendency to lay down like a cat, even getting to high places I shouldn't be able to, or hiding in places I problably shouldn't be able to fit in. I love to lay on the top of diving boards, too, and observe people who are swimming.

About a year ago, I was suiting at a corn maze, carnival thing. Bunch of kids, families taking pictures, having a really good time. A small boy, massively covered in melted chocolate, wanted a hug.  :o  I started to talk in a high pitched voice, "Oh no! Chocolate is bad for skunks!" "Sorry, STICKY!" All the time, I was wondering where my handler went. Finally, both the handler, and the parents noticed at the same time. I did paw bump with the kid, but he really wanted a hug bad. I felt like I let him down  :'( but I just don't hug filthy, sticky, boogery kids!

I growl at anything or anybody that makes me angry. dogs and cats seem to really like me. stray dogs and cats are often in my yard and I am able to pet them. one dog even stay when I went inside 2 times when I getting hotdogs for him! I have eaten cold hotdogs which my family thinks is really weird. (they don't taste bad) I have never eaten any dog treats but some of them smell REALLY good and I have been tempted to try them.

when a friend was staying at my house I used blankets to make a nest. luckily she knew I was a furry. she laugh and helped me use blankets and chairs to make a den. I have talk to animals before. I got a puppy and when my brothers dog came close I stood in front of her growling. I have also growled when people try to take my food. I tend to enjoy sleeping curled up in a ball. I once put a blanket in a laundry basket and slept for 3 hours.  :-[ I really like the trees which is good cause I live near some woods. when I walk through them I walk in the grass and hide. I look for deer tracks and am always listening. my friend will just walk through like normal and I get made she doesn't try to hide. I chase rabbits a lot. my mom thinks its weird but my grandpa likes it cause the rabbit eat the plant in his garden.

my mouth is a third hand (much to the displeasure of my dentist...) i hiss at people sometimes... i growl/grumble when displeased... me and my cat smash our heads into eachother as a sign or affection... (no, really!) um... i used to chew on things constantly, but i haven't for awhile cuz of my braces... Ive eaten dog treats (mainly when i was young, which somehow made me weirder than the kid who bit a slug in half and swallowed) i get super nervous when there are low pitch rumbling noises, like a jet or a thunderstorm...  um... i don't like heights, but i'm great at landing from them... sometimes i act like a bird, all twitchy and high-strung, looking around constantly... back when i had a fohawk i referred to it as my 'mating crest' like a bird, and would constantly prune it... the list just keeps going...

My friends were chasing me , because we were playing catch and I ran to my room (which is 1st floor) and I had nowhere to go, so I quickly jumped out from the window, and I landed on all fours. They quickly go down and start chasing me again, this time, I failed to notice the sign "cul the sac" . It was dead end, since the wall was over 3.5 metres high.My friends thought they got me, but I realized that I had the strength in my fingers, and started to climb the wall. Behind the wall, was a dog pound. I acted normal, and the dogs didn't bit me or anything. They even licked me.
The manager went out and was amazed , "How you did that? The dogs always bit me"
It was really arkward, I just said "Oh, its nothing. I'm sorry for disturbing'' and just went out.  :-[  :goldglee:

I tend to meow and purr around my mate and other furry friends, but sometimes it sneaks out in public (usually when I'm startled; I tend to let out an almost-involuntary mrowy-yelpy sound >> )
I really try to avoid it, but the more I hang around other furs, the more it becomes ingrained in my behavior, heh.

im not sure if this is awkward but at robotics there is no water fountain nearby, the closest one is at the end of the wing ( long one as well), down the stairs, around the lower commons, into the main hall and then down that a bit to the closest one. so instead i drink from the faucet at the back of the room, its one of those tall, upside-down-"U" faucets, and its surrounded by ( presumably) toxic chemicals from 3D printer sealant washed off of models made by other students, and batteries and electrical equipment, as well as other tools. and my other team member ( who happens to be a brony so we openly talk about our respective fandoms because we are in the same boat) finds that disgusting so he wants to get me a dog bowl so i stop drinking like a " dirty animal" from the sink.

I don't ever really notice my nails are longer than others, so a few people have compared them to claws. I also rub up against things like a cat (not people, as I have a bit of a problem with others touching me). And often I'll make different mrrr-ing sounds, a different one for different moods.

My friend always scratches me as a joke, and he didn't see my nails, so when he went to scratch me I scratched him first. He was just like "dude, what the hell is wrong with your nails"?  :D I got him back because his nails are moderately sharp, just not nearly as sharp as mine.

The most awkward moment for me was when a group of us were public suiting and we entered a fur friendly bar for water.  Some drunk girl grabbed each of our rears as we walked by.

Not really a furry moment. But how i took it anyway. Was training this new guy at work. Every chance he got he patted me on the shoulder or back. This got really awkward. I even caught him raising his arm, then changing his mind. I half expected him to scratch me behind my ears and say "good boy!".

Once gave my 2-year-old niece a traumatic experience when her Dad brought her into the garage where I had just de-headed from a pre-Halloween photoshoot with the kids. She avoided me for several months--until her birthday. All was forgiven once she received her gift.

once was the time I showed the girls in history class and they said "oh is that a fury"  :o
then they talked about what they knew about it (mostly bad)
but I just took a seat and stayed calm to show no weakness

that and the couple times I stuck my head out the window :D (what I like the wind in my face)

When one of my friends loudly announces across the class that I'm a furry (He also got my fursona wrong. He said I was a dog.. esh)... :/

Does anyone else find it annoying when someone says "good boy" to you (or good girl) ? This happens to me for some reason. I don't know why...

I wear my collar when I'm in my car. One day I got to work then exited the car but forgot to take my collar off.  As I began to walk away I realized it and leaped back toward the car and entered as fast as I could.  Luckily no one saw.  I's not ready to be jobless.

I've accidently bitten people who have thought sneaking up on me and grabbing me from behind would be funny. I've also awoken from nightmares growling and biting whatever is nearby.
Many animals seem drawn to me. I've been followed by squirrels, kissed by camels, cuddled by prairie dogs, befriended by a cockatoo and a rat, and had to pet a hamster for a few minutes before he'd let me scoop out his cage ( he'd stand on the scooper and refuse to budge until he got pets ) at the pet store where I used to work.

I don't just talk to my dog, I sing songs about and to him. We have several, one for crossing the street, for a car ride, the dog park, and many general songs for any occasion.
I also constantly ask him what he smells when he stops to sniff. :D

Well If I hear something moving in the bushes I instinctively hiss (except I don't do that now  because I know there is heaps of lizards there) -_- I did that in front of someone.

This is what happens if you live with a cat for a long time...

I love running around with no shoes on in the woods, climbing trees, I want to get my tail because I feel empty without it, I feel that a deep connection between the outdoors and being fast have a huge part in my life ( love being in woods and enjoying wildlife and driving fast), I love being the "spotlight" of dark areas and I love to make people laugh all these are traits of a Raccoon and the fact of being fast applies to the werewolf side... I still havent come out to my parents about it, though I think im going to wait until my contract with the army is up and get my ears and tail, however my long time best friend whom ive been skying with for 5 years now (might be a future GF) has accepted me for it and is very curious about it ;) haha anyways, im still getting confused looks from people when i grab a perfectly good sandwhich or bag of snacks left in the trash, and sometimes people look at me like im crazy when i find a good clean piece of candy on the floor and wipe it off and eat it. Then theres the moments when people frustrate me and I walk away and just stare of a bird or something and think about grabbing them by the wings and playing with them...Also I like to wear things that hide my face or identity like a "mask" you could say, such as shades, or hoodies, hats and etc...

Randomly using fur-speak in the work place, not that it matters to much where I'm at because most the people that work there know about the fandom (however aren't members of it).

Today, I was sitting with my friends at study hall (they don't know I'm a fur), and at the table we were at, our school's yearbook comitee had left behind yearbooks from other schools, so I started reading one. Almost immediately, I found a picture of their mascot, a wolf, in costume at a sports game. I got excited and asked what school it was from; someone replied, "It's Plano West, the Wolfpack." That sounded really awesome to me, and I began ranting about how our school's mascot should be something cool like a wolf and not what it currently is, and apparently I was talking really loud because the whole study hall stopped talking and listened. Eventually, one of my friends told me to chill, and I noticed that everyone was looking at me funny. That was the end that discussion ;)

Today in study hall, I was sitting with a girl and a tech-savvy guy (who don't know I'm a furry) in the comfy chairs in my school's commons. It was the last period of the day, and the girl remarked that the guy looked like cat sprawled in the chair. He said, "great. I'm a cat now. Actually, even worse, I'm a furry." Obviously, this made my ears perk up, and he continued by saying, "I don't know if either of you know what that is, but..." with me responding, "yeah, I have a pretty good idea ;)" He then started talking about how gross our art and suits and things are. I had to repress myself to keep from blurting out against him, but I was finally able to change the subject.

My girl scout troop was hosting this costume day camp, so I went dress up as a dog, I bought cheap ears and a tail, but at the camp  the little girls kept trying to get me to fetch an imaginary stick. It was fine untill they started to pull my tail. I growled at one of them and she ran away crying... I was put on snack duty after that.

Showed up in fursuit at a panel hosted by a furry artist lady during a sci-fi con. Went into my balancing-rocket-on-nose act to upstage her while seated at the back of the room. She came over to knock it off, but failed as it's a rather substantial model rocket. You might recognize the name as she is one of the few female fursuiters who performs in skits at the major cons.

A lot of furry things I do aren't even related to my own sona species. >.>'

I do tend to hiss at people. I've started doing it with friends and people who have no idea about my furriness. And they're always like, "did you just hiss at me?" And I'm like, ".....yes." And that's usually the end of that.

I also wag my non-existent tail when I get excited. Which pretty much translates to that full-body wiggling thing that dogs with stub tails do. People don't call me out on that one as much though.

I shiver/shake like cats and dogs. I don't even mean to... it just kinda happens. And people are always like, "what the heck? Are you okay??"

Also, when I get angry, I get very wildcat like. I bare my teeth and stalk and pace and glare and all that jazz. I also lose my ability to talk (cuz I'm just too mad to speak. My body language makes much more sense to me when I'm angry). I lower my head and growl if someone gets too close, or I'll stand over them and give them the best ferocious "keep away" look I can.

My mom and I argue a lot, and one night she made me angry enough to be like that. She barged into my room (my territory) and every time I tried to non-verbally tell her to leave, she'd just get closer instead. Finally she was right next to me. She reached out and I slunk back, lowered my head, and did my best not to allow my lips to curl back.

And then my mom loudly goes, "are you on DRUGS???"

-_-

I tend to get very loud, angry, and roary whenever I get mad. I also have a tendency to use violence a lot when I'm angry, which isn't good. I've left holes in drywall, hit people, and hurt myself punching and hitting things too hard. It's not something to be proud of, but it is a few traits I tend to share with my fursona Mahao. I also tend to yell, scream, roar, and shout a lot.

As for me, I have a weird habit of hissing at people, along when when I hurt myself.  I also like to eat tuna for some reason, along with other fish, and I meow back at my cat whenever she meows at me.
