Ian showed this to me, it really does act biological in its efforts to stay upright.

That's incredible.  Did you see the way it recovered when it slipped on the ice?  I follow robotics and am constantly amazed at how fast the field is progressing.

This puppy won't make it's way into your home, sad to say. It's grant is funded my the military in hopes that it'll aid soldiers in carrying things across surfaces where wheels would be destroyed or at least rendered useless. Not to mention, it's the size of a mule.  :D
And I’ll be wearing white when I come into your kingdom,
I’m as green as the ring on my little cold finger,
I’ve never known the lovin' of a man,
But it sure felt nice when he was holding my hand.

I agree...what happens when they make robots that can can humanly when interacting with its environment? Can you say war? Haha I am such a paranoid dork some times...that can I can't spell half the words I type.

AS well it looked like a large bug and made me queasy.  :-[  :(

At last, all the key chain digital pets will have the feet they need to kick their owners when they are left under a sofa for too long!

On a somewhat more serious note, wouldn't it be interesting if the tech can be adjusted for people that live in either pet hazardous areas or small homes to have a more consumer geared robo-pet?

While loud, ugly, slow and cumbersome, I find it to be surprisingly agile. It recovered very well when that guy kicked it and when it slipped on the ice. I was also surprised by the little jump it made at the end.

The whole time I was watching that, I was wishing Isaac Asimov could have somehow hung in there a couple more decades.

Tell you what scares me: Bionics.
Atm, they are miracles, or science over nature, but soon we're gonna start thinking:
"Bioni arms are better than normal arms." "Bionic eyes can see in the dark better than my normal eyes." "A bionic brain would help me pass my tests."
Soon we wont be human, we will be cyborgs, driven by our passion for perfection. Thankfully i will be dead by then (:

Wow that thing is crazy!

I know they call it a dog but its movement remind me of a horse moreso. What an incredible piece of technology.

Any idea what they are developing it for? (images of having my own robohorse fill my mind)

... and it can JUMP!

Terminator-esque war scenes in my mind ... It's creepy.

I want to ride it.

This thread is old, I know, but I just had to comment on this. Did anyone else notice at the end of the video they showed the DARPA logo?

After seeing this amazing video two words come to mind: Metal Gear.
They've managed to make a quadripedal robot that has that much stability and at that small size, I belive it's only a short matter of time before the world can see a nuclear equipped walking battle tank.
