PHP sigs?
« on: September 01, 2005, 03:04:53 am »
Hey, so I've got this really rockin' mega-cool little toy set up-- it's a little script that goes in your signature and shows people what music you've been listening to. Which is more often than not embarrassing in my case. ''

But anyway, Furtopia didn't seem to like my attempts to put this into my sig, I guess because it doesn't have an image extension (I was trying to use the IMG tag, but I don't know if that was the right thing to do). First of all, are PHP doodads like this one allowed in signatures? If so, what would be the right way to put it in? If not, is there any way I could still include it here? (I've noticed that several unicorns who hang around these parts have an avatar-rotating script, and was wondering if something similar could be implemented here.)

Help!

Technically speaking, it's an ordinary image, so you can put it in your signature as long as you're not breaking the usual rules (size, PG13).  It does eat some CPU because it has to be generated and encoded on the fly, but it's on another server so that doesn't matter either.

You're right about the file extension in image tags. But I found out there's a way to trick Ikonboard -- check out the file name of my avatar '<img'>. (This works because 1. IB ignores the trailing slash and 2. the other web server will append the "index.php" part automatically if only a directory name was given in the request.)

Ooh, cleverclever, Nocte. '<img'> And it works like a charm, too. (Although I found that once I modified the directory name, it worked without the trailing slash, but not with... it differs from server to server, I guess.)

Thanks so much for the help! =: )
