Anyone else had problems?
« on: December 10, 2005, 02:46:38 pm »
A few weeks ago i found that my guestbook got spammed by some guy with links to viagra and a bunch of other crap.

Then last night i go to upload a few pics to my gallery and come to find that the database for my gallery, and my forum that i had set up crashed, and my guestbook was spammed again. Not sure if its all related but was just wondering if anyone else had any similar problems?

My guest book gets spammed daily, mostly from IPs in Russia and China. I've blocked 6 IPs from posting but that only lasts a few days before the same spam is back as the senders rotate thier mask. It's gotten so bad I'm thinking of removing the guestbook altogether...

Luckily was able to import the images into a freshly installed 4images gallery to get it back up, just needs to redo the names and comments, replaced the guestbook with one that is supposed to have ip banning, hopefully that'll help.

Be careful NOT to install Advanced Guest Book 2.  It has a security hole that allows spammers to relay mail.  Spammers "are" targeting Furtopia and well as othe furry sites.  So keep a close eye on your web site and frequent backups!

Before i was using Onlyshout's php for a guestbook, now i'm using one called chimpmonk guestbook. Thought it'd be better since it can show ip's and is able to ban but after i got back online after a week of being compyless i found over 6 pages of spam.

Trying something to discourage it abit. If it happens again i'll just remove the guestbook. Luckily i found an easy way of getting my gallery back up.

A guestbook that requires entering a code from a image file to post will fix spam normaly as well.  Most spam comes from "bots" which can't read the contents of a image file.
