Donald Trump elected 45th President of the United States
« on: November 09, 2016, 02:18:45 am »

All is lost! America is doomed! The streets will become rivers of blood! Anyone who can should get out now. Those who can't should... I dunno, pray to whatever god(s) you believe in for some sort of miracle. (Atheists can take solace in the knowledge that this result constitutes evidence for their position.)

Can you tell I'm not happy about this? :goldpissed:

EDIT: Typo.

As a Californian living in what might as well be a colony of America, I'm seriously disappointed in America.

For those of us who are Californians, check this out:

http://www.yescalifornia.org/

The one silver lining about trump's victory is that it makes #Calexit all that much easier. (We'd have supported California secession regardless of who got in office - but dang... Still, we would have much preferred an uphill battle to gain support and have Hillary as POTUS, than to have a quicker and easier trip to #Calexit with Trump in office.)

Syr: Well theres always the silver lining that hes so hated here, that he galvanized the Calexit movement, and it went from a fringe twitter tag to a trending one within hours, and got the support of some people with followings, and some people with money. While Calexit is the big one, it might manage to free some of the other rich blue states that can survive on their own

While the actions of America today are a truly sore disappointment... The actions of Californians today has warmed my heart.

the calexit thing (i havent heard of it till now) seems a little ridiculous. hell cali takes up a very large section of the west cost, and leaving the union would likely have pretty major problems/conflicts with our economy as a whole. also unless it becomes something like the EU i'd rather not have another border that i'd need to cross if i ever want to leave/visit cali.

so what trump won. its not the end of the world, and leaving the union will be far more difficult than many of the people who are likely calling for us to leave the union think it is. also there needs to be someone who keeps cali in check for the stupid things this state does. being a white male i have a feeling that if the people of cali got their way it would be very difficult for me to find a job since more trans/Hispanic/what ever people will take those job opening for the sake of diversity.

(there are some good reasons though. just saying that there are also many negative things too)

Unfortunately history always repeats itself. Controlling people with fear and propaganda aways wins. The most technological and powerful nation in the world. Run by a madman? Nope. He doesn't have the power he thinks he has. And his kind of propaganda will turn on him. People will become even more disenchanted when he can't deliver on any of his promises. We can only hope that Americans learn from their mistakes.

Actually, given his views on the environment, global warming, and nuclear proliferation, it very well could be.

Oh joy. A lot can happen over 4 years, and I don't want to think about what "a lot" is in this case.

Trump do some good? When pigs have wings.

^ I second all these.

I knew Clinton was going to lose. I just had a strong feeling about it right when I saw the early electoral vote counts of about 120 (Trump) vs. 98 (Clinton).
Well, for all the people who supported Trump, I hope you knew what you were doing, and I hope you get what you want from the guy. *inserts sarcasm*  >:(  >:(

But let me tell you this: Whatever Trump talked about that he wanted from mass deportations to building a wall, he is going to face one very tough and ugly battle from Congress and/or the Judicial Branch to get what he wants. Nearly everything that he wants will have to be approved, ratafied, debated, etc., etc., etc. by Congress and/or the American people. And you can be damn sure the Democrats in the House and Senate won't make things easy for Trump. Trump is going to have a fight on his hands. Going to be interesting too to see how Republicans who endorsed Trump, but did not fully support him, handle him too.

I feel angry, disgusted, and also sorry and pity right now. Not for the candidates or Congress or the media, but rather for the millions of regular Americans who supported and voted for Trump. I really don't think most Americans were acting rationally when they pledged their support for Trump and voted for him. As has been said long ago, Trump is like a fast talking car salesman. He pitches to the public what he thinks they will want to hear. He has played on and toyed with people's emotions, fears, and frustrations to get what he wants. And the American people fell for it.

I am not only shocked and saddened by the way Trump and his antics have "corrupted" this whole Presidential election, but I am more shocked and saddened that the majority of the American people were gullible and foolish enough to follow this madman and did not do enough to stop his foul and abusive rhetoric. To me, it seems people were thinking more with their hearts, and not with their brains when they supported and voted for Trump.  :P

I had a hard time getting to sleep last night. I felt scared. Really scared of what Trump will do and what this nation will become in the next four years. I can only hope and pray that they won't be.

May God have mercy on this country and it's people.  :'(

If there was a tombstone for America, it would probably read:

Here lies the United States of America.
Born: July 4, 1776
Died: November 8, 2016

For all those who supported and voted for Trump in America, I hope you knew what you were doing. But I don't think you did.

It's going to be a long 4 years. A very long 4 years indeed.  :(  :(  :(  :'(  :'(  :'(

Syr: Also I really want to respond to GrayWolf448's post, but its so disgusting and hypocritical that I cannot find a way to do so within the bounds of the rules of this forum.
So I'm not going to.
But I will say in general that much of the stupidity doesn't come from within california itself - especially anything to do with money/taxes/budget. That all comes down from the feds.

We will NOT stand idly by and let our civil and human rights be stripped from us and other fellow californians.

Out of all the issues discussed and debated during the entire Presidential election, the one which worries me the most is Social Security. Healthcare comes second. I'm on disability right now due to my eyesight. Even if I could work, it would be very limited and I would only probably be able to get Part-time work with little or no benefits. Though thankfully, I have qualified for, and am currently getting Medicare.
BUT..........how long will either of those last? Will Medicare and Disability benefits go up or down in the next 4 years under Trump and a Republican Congress? Will either of those still be around when I reach 50, 60, 70, and older? From various rumors and news articles I have read, probably not. There is a very growing fear that Medicare and Social Security benefits will be depleted and non-existant in the next 10-15 years.......or less.  :o

I had hoped to hear more about Social Security and Medicare from Trump and Clinton during the Presidential debates. But sadly, both candidates were severely lacking in details.  :P
I can tell you this much: With a Republican President and the majority of Congress controlled by Republicans, you can kiss any increases in Medicare, Social Security, and other means of welfare goodbye. They will probably not be increased, if at all, or they will be cut. Mark my words. It will happen.

i reread my post and i do not see anything hypocritical. all i said was the plain facts that just getting up and walking out of the union isnt that easy. the closest thing i can find to what you would call hypocritical would be the whole think about not liking the forced diversity of places. though the rest of that message is just plain facts, and the last thing is a fear based on what iv been seeing going on (for ex: yahoo firing males to hire more females (if this story was true))

but like kobuk stated you might might want to create another thread about it. maybe i will be able to share/explain my ideas in a better way since i still dont see what is wrong with my post.

as for health care well hopefully you are fine kobuk.. though the whole social security thing running out has been going on for awhile and isnt just due to trump (though he may or may not just get rid of it)

though one of the biggest things is that we really need to stop expecting the government to do everything for us. there are many small things someone can do to improve situations for them selves/others. yes you might need to go through some gov paperwork, buy as long as you just try to keep things localized to a group of people who all think its a good idea, you could likely just have a small petition and get what you want.
one thing is something like welfare. if someone is in trouble financially people should help out a little instead of just saying the gov isnt helping. hell i'd like to help out people who seemed reasonable if i could, though sadly i am in the position of needing help so iv got nothing to give away/help with

trump is a risk, but like i said before its something new to try that hopefully goes well. if things dont go hell, band together and fix it. hell at least trump isnt trying to just randomly ban things (like many people's crazy fear of scary firearms/attachments)

trump is a risk, but like i said before its something new to try that hopefully goes well.

^ This reminds me of two things that Captain Kirk said in 2 different Star Trek films:
a)  "The greatest risk is not taking one at all."
b)  "Come, come, Mr. Scott. 'Young minds, fresh ideas.'  You taught, remember."

But will the risk of having Trump be President be worth it? I don't know. Only history will be able to decide that. And Trump's ideas? Will they be good and work? IMO, not from my POV.  :P As I've constantly said time and again, Trump is a businessman. All he knows is building and operating casinos, hotels, restaurants, and golf courses. That hardly seems like the "proper experience" to manage America and deal with world issues.  :P Seriously, how the hell does building a golf course end the situation in Syria? It doesn't.

^  Welfare and social security, etc. should be it's own separate thread. But for now, I'll quickly respond to GW's comments with the following:
Although I myself am getting Disability and Medicare because of my eyesight situation, I am also of the opinion that welfare and other entitlement handouts should be limited. This nation has become too damned welfare dependent.  >:( Yes, I want to see people get what they deserve for Disability, Medicare, and so forth. But there needs to be better management and/or more controls and restrictions on who can get such benefits and how much they should get. Giving people "more money" to help them get back on their feet isn't and won't solve their problems. Creating more job searching/training programs, housing programs, drug and alcohol rehab programs, etc. will help to get people back on their feet.

Now, I'm not well versed in politics and economics. Those two things weren't my cup of tea so to speak back in High School.  :P But here's a suggestion of one way to limit and control welfare entitlements. Whether it has actually been thought of and tried before, I don't know. It won't work for everybody on welfare and other entitlements, but it might work for those who are still capable of working to some extant, but choose not to work and think it is better to collect from the government. Here's my suggestion:

Depending on various conditions of people (Health, Disability, Transportation issues, etc.), then force the people who can or are still capable of doing some work to do community services in order to continue collecting welfare entitlements. If a person wants that $750 or more welfare check each month, then that person needs to go out and do certain or specified community service chores for specified number of hours each week or month in order to get his/her welfare entitlements. The community service chores won't be pretty or glorified, but it will get the "lazy bums" off their butts and outside helping the community and interacting with people. Heck, they might even pick up some new skills too. And if a person doesn't want to do community service chores and/or doesn't meet the specified number of hours working them, then I feel their welfare entitlements should be cut or they won't get a welfare check for that specified month.
I am constantly sick and tired of how many people "cheat the system".  >:(

On a lighter note....... :D

*news anchor reporting*
"After the polls had closed last night and all the votes had been counted, it appears we now have a new President for the Soft Drink Federation. Incumbant challenger (and Dr. Pepper drinker) Marcus J. Wolf has taken the lead over Kobuk D. Husky with an electoral count of 283 to 211 to become the next President of the Soft Drink Federation!

So...I did read through and look at this thread here and you know what it reminds me of? A bunch of people with propoganda and a sandwich sign on them shouting "IT'S THE END TIMES! IT'S THE END TIMES!!!" Y'know....kind of like when Obama got elected...And eight years of his presidency and policy later we're still here!

Honestly, people really need to calm down. Everyone says every new president in the modern day will be the end but lo and behold we survived all of them...I don't see Trump as being much different from any of them in that sense.

Profile pic by Sandy Schreiber, her work's awesome!
