Instead of using an FTP program, you can also use
Furtopia's WebFTP
. After entering your web account username and password there (which might be different from the ones you use to log in on the forums), it's as easy as clicking "upload a new file".

When I was trying to create a webcomic on Keenspace (at which I gave up, I'm just not good at comics... yet.) I got a mac-friendly FTP program that works really well, called RBrowser Lite.
I think that Keenspace's tutorial site has a nice selection of FTP programs for all OS's....
I can dig up some links if anyone wants it.

I've never tried Furtopia's FTP before (since I'm a mod, thet's probably blasphemy, I know). I use a program called FileZilla. It does the job, it allows me to upload many files at once, and its free.

if you have a software firewall you may need to open port 21 through your admin op on the firewall

If your using a ftp program and have connection problems. Sometimes you must set "passive mode". Some ISP's (especialy a lot of cable ones) block ports. This allows FTP to work with most upper port blocking.
