I've heard of it, but I don't really know what it is. I could probubly pull something out just from the name, but The English language is weird. So what is it?

I'm glad you asked.  Because I'm not really sure myself.  My guess is that it is people that take their furryness as a very big part of their lives, and are very overtly obvious about it.  Perhaps someone else could give a correct, and more clear definition of it  ]B=8)

It's rather difficult to define, since this is probably one of the greyest areas of the furry fandom. To put it simply, a lifestyler is a fur that has their life dominated by various aspects of the fandom. Read the other thread here and that may help you understand it a bit better.

Oh, I c. That makes sence. A bit like how Trekkies try and dress up and be a part of the ST universe. Okay.  '<img'>

Sort of like that, yeah.
Hmm...
However, furs don't necessarily have to dress up in order to be lifestylers... thankfully. '<img'>

Teehee...fursuiting is ok, but nekkid furriness is fun, too...like, with just makeup or a tat...I've seen one furry had his whole body tatted...even face, and since he was a reptile type, he had his tongue split too.  I'm contemplating getting a body tatt done...ocelot print...'cept the white, I'm white enough:-P  Anyway, my best friend the tatt artist says she can do it for a few hundred, as opposed to the price tag upwards of a thou in a normal shop.

I did have the right idea of lifestyling, then.  As for "...and since he was a reptile type, he had his tongue split too," when I was younger, I wanted to have the same thing done.  Not that sure about it now, though...

No, fursuiting is fursuiting and fursuiters are not necessarily furry lifestylers by any means. Furry lifestyle is... well, it's a way of life instead. It basically means that furry is a day-to-day part of your being, usually in a spiritual fashion of some sort. There's so many variations on furry lifestyle that it's difficult to describe, really.

You were close, but there's no requirement to be overtly obvious about your furryness or whatever. Some people like to be obvious by wearing costume tails and/or ears in public a lot, and doing body modifications and such, but it's nowhere near being any sort of a requirement.

When put to simple terms, I think furry lifestylers are those that have furry on their minds no matter what they are doing.

As amaruk had in their link, anything that has a conscious decision has a furry influence in it.  Choice of clothes, food preferences, sexual preferences.  I think it even goes as far as personality quirks.

There are varying degrees of this too.  I consider myself a lifestyler simply because furry is a big part of my life.  I don't go a single day without thinking about it and it does influence my decisions, preferences, friends, etc.  I find myself relating closely to a wolf in terms of personality.  The way I feel that I need to belong, being territorial, avoiding eye contact with others, etc.  All to different degrees.

I feel that a lot of lifestylers have found their own niche in the fandom though.  Were's, for example, I believe are lifestylers who have taken things to a new level.

Uhm...that's all I wanna say fur now '<img'>

Heh, that sounds a lot like ME!'<img'>

I spend a majority of my time thinking about furry, though not when selecting clothes or eating.

Almost any art or comics I collect now have at least ONE anthro or animalistic character in it.:)

*nods*

I consider myself a furry lifestyler becouse furry is a big part of my life.. I act my furry side almost all the time ( even at work ) without thinking about it.
I do wear my tail almost all the time out and about, but that is just extra. To let others know I'm different and proud to show it.

anyways I am rambling again..

Chaz where did you find a wuffie tail? I don't think I've ever seen one.  Personally, I wear my kitty ears everywhere...so sonofearth, if you see someone wearing leopard-print kitty ears, chances are it's me!  '<img'>  The only time I'm in public without them is when I'm working.  They're so cute!  I found them at Hot Topic...they were like $6.  I think they had black, but leopard looks more like ocelot.

I get all my cat products at Hot Topic.  ^^  I almost always wear cat ears of some sort when I'm out, and/or something with a cat on it...like my t-shirts or something.  When given the chance, I sport one of my tails.  =^_^=  FUUUN!

I actually want an ocelot tail, I was just wondering about your wuffie one cuz I'd never seen one, and was wondering what it looked like.  Do you thing you can make me an ocelot tail?  I need to replace my poor ocelot mask, but those are expensive for the nice one I want...and I'm getting those bat/dragon/whatever wings that are like $30 at hot topic...for my gryphon side.

Let me know, ok?

Fianna

PS...an ocelot suit would be awesome...but it would have to have a neckline below my collarbone or whatever...my neck's kinda sensitive in front...

I concidermyself some what of a lifestyler, due to the fact that i base my social life around furs, i have less mundane friends then furs, I talk with more furs IRL and online then any other WASC (Wide Area Sub Culture) and I seek furs as friends where as i dont look for humans to hang out with, also Furry art is incoorperated in all my decorationg my walls and clothing tends to have furry traits (pawprnts and what have you) I hold fur firends closer then most family as well. It means so much to me and is so deeply rooted as part of who I am, that I simply would'nt be ME without the furry side. thus I guess I concider myself a lifestyler? am confusing you guys? cuse im confusing me  ':.'

Oh and Fianna, Check ou tthe wings on my boss' site (if he still has em up there) at http://www.halloweencostumeworld.com I could prolly get em cheaper then on the site seeing as hes right downt eh street and OWS me for revamping his site (evn though its half finished) also, check out http://www.eatmorecat.com that site is my old friend Kasi's site, it caters to WASC's of all types and is cooler and less commercialized then hot topic, and it tends to be cheaper (in some instances) ^.^

I'm A Lifestyler.
I was told not only can you see the Big Cat in me but even feel it.
I purr a lot and make cat sounds even at work.. why? It just feels natural. I don't do it purposly.. well not normally but to even say "What?" rather then "Mrowl?" takes a bit of concetraition for me..
Humm I really sunk deep into the cat.
I Have a Panther tail.
I Made it with a bit of help.
And I also have a Pair of Black Cat ears that a friend gave me.

Now then... *rubs paws together* This is a subject on which every lifestyler has a slightly different view, so I speak for no-one but myself here.

I consider myself a lifestyler because my "furry life" is inseparable from my life as a whole - in other words, it's not just a hobby, but an integral part of who I am. I'm a lapine fur, and I feel an affinity towards rabbits so strong that I feel justified in calling it kinship. As it happens I'm an atheist, and unlike some lifestylers don't have any belief in reincarnation, spirit guides and so on - but nevertheless I will identify as a rabbit willingly.

What I mean by that is that when I say, "I am a rabbit", it is not, as such, role-playing. I mean it sincerely. Not, of course, in the sense of having fur, long ears and lapine DNA, but more in the sense of humanity being my "birth family" and rabbits my "adpotive family". They're both my real families. I'm both human and lapine, but these aspects are not separate, nor even separable. 1+1=1, if you like.

Not all that long after finding furry, I did have a go at explaining how I felt, here:

http://www.fictionpress.com/read.php?storyid=1244616

Be warned, I do get slightly opinionated in there at times! ':p'
Hazel considered this lot briefly, but it beat him.

I think there's a guy in Arizona or somewhere that's looking for someone to somehow give him full-body fur. There's a Leopard guy living near Stornoway over here too, I think.
