The "Good News" thread.
« on: October 15, 2011, 08:27:00 pm »
No matter where we go or what we do or what we read, there always seems to be bad news everywhere. :( Take for example, today. All I ever heard on the bus while going to go grocery shopping or going home, was people complaining and whining about the economy, lost jobs, war in Afghanistan, or some other bad news.
It really irks me when all I ever read, see, and hear is more and more depressing news. :( I really get tired of it. And all it ever does is start to bring me down as well. I never seem to hear much good and happy news with people or the world. Have Americans suddenly become "addicted" to bad news all of a sudden?

So here's a thread where we can discuss happy and good things that have happened to us and/or others. :)
* Birthdays
* Weddings
* Promotions
* Getting an A+ on a term paper.
* Winning an award during a competition.
........etc., etc., etc.
Let's see if we can bring a bit of happiness and a smile to everyone here and share stories of something that made you happy or something else that was good somewhere.

Maybe not exactly news but I was at a 21st/90th birthday party at the weekend and my 16 month old god daughter danced from 7.00pm straight through to 1.00am, the life and soul of the party without a doubt all she was missing was the glow sticks.

I dunno if this qualifies, but I finally got a new video game from Gamestop: Resonance of Fate. It's a bit different from normal RPGs, but I gotta say, it is awesome. Totally recommend it for anyone looking for a good game. ._.

waiting for white stuff here, or at least temperatures to drop far enough for the ski areas to start making snow.  Bought new ski boots a couple months ago and I've been dying to try them out on the slopes.

PT was cancelled (physical training, for you non-military folk)! Good thing too, it's too cold here to be outside running around. I swear I saw a snowflake (might have been dandruff :/).

We got our approval letter for food stamps in the mail today, and our EBT card (in a another piece of mail). We were able to buy groceries tonight for the first time in weeks and for the first time in ages were able to get some things like V8 juice, some cereal (that isn't normally on WIC benefits), and some meat, etc. You never know what things you miss until you have no money for them and tonight picking out various canned vegetables, juices, etc was like being a kid in a candy store for us. I'm very grateful for this. We will be able to get food now that isn't milk, tuna, and minute rice.

I've got a snow day today!

I so, so jelly. The miniscule snow we've gotten here so far has always melted within days, while last year at this time I had to wade through knee-deep snow just to get to the driveway that I had to shovel. I mean, for god's sakes, it's 45 degrees right now and raining. RAINING. In early January.

SNOW!

WOOHOO! Finally, we get snow. :) Maybe only 4-6" or thereabouts, but it's finally here! I was getting tired of seeing brown lawns for the last 1-2 months.  :P I was beginning to wonder if winter and snow would ever come.

No snow here in Baltimore yet, but it was a really nice day with 62 degrees and blue skies :D.

Psh. If you want out of key weather, it was 60 five days ago, and sunny without a cloud in the sky. Considering last years haul of over >20 inches in one sitting, this has been horrible this year. None the less, I was able to catch up on my homework.

I didn't really miss out, though. We only got about one inch. And schools are closed, why? Because Missouri drivers suck at winter driving.

I finished "Patton, Montgomery, Rommel" late Saturday night, which was one of the best books I've read due to how many interesting details it puts in while still being highly interesting and readable, instead of just droning on.

Add on to that how on Friday we got the first actual snowfall of the year, and today I finally got up to Mercer for a wonderful winter match after a multi-month airsoft drought. Oh how I missed crawling around in the mud and snow and brush and... everything, trying to find a way to flank, a way to ambush, a way to outwit the enemy in full German winter kit complete with snow camouflage (recently dubbed "my Arctic Fox kit" as a play on my callsign, "Desert Fox" hehe). After some adjustments my MP5 was shootin' good out to about 40-45 yards, though when the wind picked up it would curve slightly, but even then it grouped all right. The third round was the only one we lost, but it was the best one to me. Lying motionless under a bush for 40 minutes waiting for the right moment only to have to get up and run 250-600 yards because the enemy squad's point man and medic had gotten taken out by my fireteam, thus leading to them cutting through the brush to avoid us (which they shouldn't have done since it was VIP escort, but who cares) and was making a break for staging. After taking out the two guys holding up the rest of my fireteam I almost caught up to 'em, but they simply had too much distance on us. Again, despite losing it was just great. Forty minutes of waiting, five minutes of running and gunning (mostly running). The reinforced, padded KSK combat pants I got for Christmas really came in handy when I had to take cover in the mud/slush/snow/anything really, haha.

Damn, I guess this became a miniature AAR, and I tried to keep things in a nutshell. I need to stop rambling so much.
