Title: Dew husky or Green tea husky?
Post by: Kobuk on March 27, 2009, 11:41:47 pm
Welcome to my new Meet the Mod thread for myself. As you can see, I'm starting over. I guess I just wanted to tone down the role playing and other craziness that was in the older other thread that I got rid of, and start anew. I don't mind a little fun and craziness from time to time, but I guess I just want things to be a bit simpler from now on.

As for myself, I've been a member of Furtopia since Nov. 2003.  :o Wow. Long time, eh? And been a staff member and helped Furtopia since Oct. 2006. Most of my interests and hobbies are the following:
(Copied from my LJ)
aircraft, alaskan malamutes, ancient civilisations, ancient history, archaeology, area 51, battleships, beef jerky, benny hill, book stores, card games, cheese, chocolate, colby cheese, conspiracy theories, dale brown, doctor who, fantasy, food, furry, furry fandom, fursuiting, fursuits, green tea, gundam, indiana jones, james bond, japanese anime, macross, mascots, mexican food, military aviation, model kits, mountain dew, navy ships, pepsi, pizza, red dwarf, robotech, science fiction, shredded cheese, siberian huskies, star trek, star wars, stealth aircraft, the great luke ski, tom clancy, weird al yankovic, white lions, white tigers, wild knights gulkeeva, wine coolers, wolf's rain, wolves, world war two, xfiles,

*notices the bunny in the back row waving a handpaw in the air*

Ok, good question. ;) My best friend has been interested in World War II history, particularly naval history for a long time. Nearly every time I visited my best friend for one reason or another, he would always tell me stories of Pearl Harbor (His favorite subject.) or some other naval information. I guess he finally got me hooked on naval stuff (Particuarly battleships) when we started talking about, and constructing, a model of the never-built WWII USS Montana battleship 5 years ago. Ever since that time, I've been hooked. ;) But here's another reason why:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsNlmiLJGIw
Now that's firepower!  :D With a properly trained crew, those 16" guns are capable of firing a 2700 lb shell out to about 24 miles, and can fire twice per minute (Every 30 seconds).  :o
IMO, they are THE BEST large caliber naval guns ever invented for a battleship. More info.: V

While we're on the subject of prying into your personal interests... *flips through kobuk's mail*  What about the area 51 interest? I just ask because I remember being so into that when I was a kid.  :)

Hmmmm. Well, my interest in that started long, long ago back in high school IIRC. Sometime during 1986 or later, a friend had shown me a newspaper article about the first reports of a secret stealth fighter (F-117 Nighthawk - Now retired though.) that had crashed near Bakersfield, CA back in the summer of 1986. (I think I have a copy of that article. I'll have to check.) After I read that article, I began to get more intrigued with military aircraft, especially Top Secret black projects such as stealth aircraft. From 1986 onwards, my interest in stealth aircraft, secret projects, and Area 51 has never diminished. I'm not into all the UFO hype about Area 51. I find all that to be a load of rubbish.  :P Everything that I've ever read about the place has to do with "regular" aircraft and aircraft systems only.
In the past 20 years, I've been collecting (and still do) books, magazines, newspaper articles, etc. about Area 51 and Top Secret aircraft. I have an entire bookcase filled with reference material. ;)

Pretty much all, really. Mayans, Incas, Egyptians, etc., etc., etc. I like to read about ancient history and civilisations. I guess watching all those Indiana Jones films is kinda what sparked my interest.  :D I find it fascinating that they built colossal structures, had advanced astronomy and mathematics, and so much more.

Before I had even heard of furry and gotten into it, I was interested in games , gaming, and general sci-fi/fantasy stuff. I started out going to the Gen Con Game Fairs long ago starting back in 1988 or '89 in Milwaukee, WI. I probably went to about maybe 10 of them, the last being in 2002. As for furcons, the only ones I visited were FC07, AC07, and AC08. I have no plans to attend any cons this year due to financial reasons and the state of the economy. :(

Title: Re: Dew husky or Green tea husky?
Post by: Kobuk on April 08, 2009, 07:25:39 pm
When I used to be into games long ago, some of my favorites of games or game genres were:
RPG's
Collectible card games
Simulation games like flight sims or robot combat games.

I never did get to fulfill my gaming desires due to lack of people to play with, money to buy game stuff, or having gaming systems.

D&D - Wanted very badly to try that, but gave up as there was too many manuals and information to learn.
Card games - Was into MTG for awhile, but sold my entire collection. Still have all my Star Wars CCG cards, but may eventually sell those. Still have the Star Trek First Edition CCG game and have no plans to get rid of that.
Macross/Robotech RPG's - Have the entire collection of books, but no one to play with. :(

Would've gotten into PC and game system stuff long ago, but changed my mind as the technology and the game systems change so rapidly that it's hard to keep up.

Why a wolf? Hard to say for sure, really. Guess my interest in them has been growing the longer I've been in the fandom. But if and when I do change my fursona, it won't be green. I'll probably stick to the classic gray wolf colors.

If you mean any type of military aircraft being my favorite, I guess I'd probably say the F-16 Falcon. It's the most versatile and dependable combat aircraft in existance. It can do just about any type of mission or role.

If you mean stealth aircraft, then my favorite currently is the B-2 stealth bomer. Who would've thought that an all wing aircraft wouldn't be able to fly? BUT IT DOES! :)

Heres an interesting question for aircraft enthusiasts. Modern pilots today use computer aided targeting systems, but back in WW1 they had to use their naked eyes to spot targets. They were rather good at it too.

So heres the question: Take a modern pilot and WW1 pilot, both in their prime at the top of their careers, and swap their places. Who would have a more dificult adaptation? The WW1 pilot in his youth and prime who is used to useing his naked eyes to see targets at distance now having to learn computers and handling high speeds, or the modern pilot having to slow down in such an old plane and no longer having his computers to help him but relying soley on training and instinct.

I'm sure both would get blown out of the sky, but who would have a harder time of it?

For Dragore and Hayaikawa:

While the F-22 is a very nice plane (and it's also my second favorite), it happens to be overpriced and "untested" when it comes to combat experience. The F-16 has been in the USAF inventory for probably 30 years and is a combat proven and capable machine. It's so robust and affordable that numerous countries around the world have aquired it. For the F-35, I'm not sure what to think on that one.  :P From what I've read, it has limited range and payload (Not good when you're going into combat), and has been overpriced and had technical difficulties during it's development. To me, it just looks "too vulnerable" if it ever went into combat.  :P

For Kaloyan:

If I had to choose, then I would pick the modern pilot. It's far easier to learn "backwards" than it is to go "forward". I think the modern pilot would have less to learn since he's already familiar with aircraft systems, techniques, and flying styles than what the WWI pilot would since that WWI pilot has to go through "mountains of training" to learn about computers and advanced aircraft capabilities, etc.

Pilots today use there eyes too and they can see targets just as good as a WWl pilot can. Good eye sight is a must for moden pilots just as it is for a WWl pilot.

As for who would win I'd pick the moden day pilot, a Fokker D-7 or a Spad would easy for him too handle...

Yep, it works. :) Don't worry about Arbutus. He'll just have an awful headache when he awakes, that's all.  :D

Then on Sat. I'll be going to another model contest in my area. Wish me luck. I'll be taking this beast with me that I built for my best friend last year. I already won one award for it last year, but I hope to win more awards this year. ;)

Ok, so I have to ask: Has anyone here tried the new version of Mt. Dew called "Mountain Dew: Throwback"? It's still the classic Dew, but with natural sugar now instead of the artificial sweeteners used. I tried a bottle tonight and it seemed fairly ok. A bit more carbonation and more of a sweet taste from what I noticed. Has anyone else tried it and what are your opinions?

Ahhhhhh. Another day off from work. :) Nice and relaxing.  :D And what better way to enjoy the day than to go to a local modeling contest with friends and hope to win some awards. ;)
So today, after a late morning start, me and a friend went to a VA medical center in Milwaukee where a model contest was being held to help benefit the veterans there. :) I took along my favorite modeling subject which I worked long and hard for 5 years on which is the USS Montana BB-67 Battleship:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/icyhusky/bb67montana/10182008montana001.jpg
There were three catagories to enter: Either Novice, Intermediate, or Advanced. And each catagory had sub-sections. I entered in the Nautical section for the Intermediate catagory. I did not meet the qualifications to enter into the Advanced catagory.
It was a small show with a fair amount of model entries and participants. Even veterans at the VA center could enter if they wanted to.
So, skipping ahead to the awards.......I got Bronze (Third Place) for the Nautical section in the Intermediate catagory. But the real surprise was this...........I GOT "VETERAN'S BEST OF SHOW" AWARD!   :o  :D Woohoo! Now the awards weren't much. They weren't trophies or medallions. The organisers of the contest couldn't afford the funds to order trophies from an awards shop. So what was given out to people who won were items like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/icyhusky/2009bobpalmmodel/DSC01803.jpg
Regardless of what the awards may look like, they are still awards nonetheless. So I'm happy. :) Here is a link to the album where all the contest pics can be found. There are 4 pages worth.
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v216/icyhusky/2009bobpalmmodel/
So what's my next project or contest? Well, that's a closely guarded secret.  8) But what I can tell you is that at the next contest in November in Chicago, modelers will be talking about my newest creation for hour after hour. When I build something, I want modelers to say "Wow, Would you look at that!"  :o

Did I ever show you guys all the modeling awards I've gotten? No? Well then, let me show you. I wish I had more time to list which award was for what model I did, but I don't have time tonight to completely list everything. Maybe another night perhaps?
What I can tell you is that I currently won/have:
* 2 First Place trophies
* 1 Second Place ribbon
* 3 Third Place ribbons
* 1 Third Place certificate
* 2 Third Place plaques
* 1 "Most Creative Entry" award
* 1 "Best of Show" award
* 1 Third Place certificate

(Gotta stop getting Third Place. Crap!)  >:(

Most modeling contests will not only have catagories for cars, aircraft, armor, and ships, but also other catagories for sci-fi and fantasy stuff. All you have to do is check with your local hobby store and inquire if there are any model contests in your city/state that you can participate in.

I just tried this Mountain Dew throwback stuff. Pretty good. :) I can't really say I like the sugary aftertaste a lot but it does taste a little sweeter to me. I think I'll keep drinking it while it's around.

I just had Pepsi Throwback for the first time today-- are they doing this Throwback thing with all Pepsi products? Anyway, I loved it. It tastes so much better to me with natural sugar-- that, and it doesn't leave you thirsty after you drink it, like most soda does. It doesn't feel as "sticky," I guess.

A++++++ WILL BUY AGAIN.

Regardless of what Pepsi or Mt. Dew tastes like, I probably won't be buying and drinking that much. All that sugar and citric acid isn't good for the body, especially the kidneys, and not good for the teeth either.  :P I've cut my intake far back. I only drink MD maybe once or twice a week now.

Just be warned: You asked!
My life really is boring!  :P Other than furry, and my other interests which are listed in my very first post in this thread, my life is working at one of those big box retail chain stores as a stockperson. Pretty boring.  :P Been that way for the last 10 years. I want to get out of retail so badly, but it's not worth it due to the way the economy is. :(
A typical day is get up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, get on the computer, then go to bed.  :P I hardly ever go anywhere and I don't have any friends near me. My life is nice and quiet. I'm about as boring as they come. I'm 40, so I'm not like all you younger pups out there. I'm no longer interested in any of the music, games, and other stuff that the younger generation is into.

I knew you were into models, Kobuk, but not that you were intrested in history. I think thats awesome.

Since you like battleships, I'll have to do something for ya.  My home town is nearl Wilmington, NC, home of BB55 North Carolina. Last year, they repainted her, not the traditional grey, but in her wartime colors, a mix of grey, blue, and navy. Its a very good look.  Next time I'm home, I'll stop by and get some pics for ya.

Also, between Dew and green tea, I like green tea.  When I was a child, I was a dedicated Dew drinker, but In the last year, soda's have started tasting too sweet to me. Oh well, they say tastes change as you grow older.  Now I drink green tea, and ginger ale. (I used to HATE ginger ale)

If you ever do any traveling along the east coast, I recomend stopping to see the North Carolina in Wilmington, and the Yorktown carrier (along with a cruiser, destroyer, and a submarine) in Charlston, SC.

EDIT:
Nevermind, I found some pics of the North Carolina's new paint scheme online.
http://www.ncmuseums.org/image/Battleship%20NC%20small.jpg (http://www.ncmuseums.org/image/Battleship%20NC%20small.jpg)

My question for you... How long does it typically take you to build a model?  I used to be into modeling as a kid, but I tended to rush things and get impatient.  I would finish a kit in 2 to 4 days, but the end result often didnt look so good.

LOL.  :D I did the EXACT same thing when I was younger. I rushed! I couldn't wait to open that box and start putting the model together and playing with it. But as time moved on, I wanted to get better and improve my skills at building so I could have models that looked just as good as the ones in the modeling magazines. I'm still not as good as the pros since I have bad eyesight, but I have come a very long way and you can see it in the links I left in some of my earlier posts. I don't build as much or as fast as I used to in the past. I average only maybe 1 kit per year. Mainly because I spend too damn much time doing research about the subject before I build and paint it. And also cause model building supplies are going up in cost.

Has anyone seen or tried the two new Mt. Dew flavors that are out? I never heard or noticed anything about them till I went to the food court at the mall where I work and ordered some pizza for lunch.
They come in "World of Warcraft" themed bottles.  :o There's a blue color which says it is Dew with a fruit punch flavor. And then there is a red/orange color which is Dew with a citrus cherry flavor.

Other than my usual duties here at Furtopia, I've been working on another scratchbuilt model kit project for a Fall contest. I'll give ya a clue:
If built, the ship would've been 2000 ft. long x 300 ft. wide x 200 ft. tall. Here's a sample pic showing the main wood hull (in 1/700 scale) compared to two 1/700 scale World War II aircraft carrier flightdecks (end to end), and also a 1/700 Nimitz carrier and a Iowa battleship hull. Can anybody guess what I'm building?

Trust me, it'll be a very special "werewolf" model plane that I'll be building as a humorous subject for a future model contest next year. ;) It'll still look pretty much the same as a regular F-18, but with a few "slight" changes here and there.
But first, I'm trying to finish this:

What I've got done so far: V
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/icyhusky/habbakukmodel/DSC02712.jpg
........which won't be finished till possibly April next year. To the best of my knowledge, I'm the ONLY modeler who has ever attempted to model the Habakkuk.  :o I've got a lot of people waiting to see how it turns out next year. They're expecting excellent results from me.

Ok, good question. ;) There's not many furry books I have at home or have read recently. Some titles that I've read and liked are:

White Fang by Jack London
Call of the Wild by Jack London
I do have some Redwall books, but I've only gotten as far as the second book.  :-[
Mainframe: Beginnings by Simba Wiltz
Wolf's Trap by W.D. Gagliani
And I let someone borrow a book of mine called "Creatura" by Paul Lucas, but I never got the book back from the person. :(
I hope to find and buy more werewolf type novels in the future as that seems to intrigue me right about now.

Have you ever seen the Battleship Texas? I've seen it and love the ship, you can take tours on it and learn a lot about its history, I'm very curious to hear your thoughts on it since you seem to really like battleships and things of old wartime nature.

That's a shame, I've only been once when I was a kid but it was really fun. I've been to Seawolf Park where you can go aboard the USS CAVALLA submarine from WWII and the USS STEWART destroyer escort that is one of only 3 in the world

I'd love to take a trip back down there and re-visit those places. when I went on the CAVALLA I had trouble going up and down the ladders inside because I was afraid of hights, now that I've gotten over most of my fear I'd like to try it again.

From the IRL picture thread

Quote
What is there in the way of ventilation? A vent system, or perhaps a fan? I don't know too much about fursuits, I have this annoying claustrophobia thing...

Some fursuiters put small CPU fans inside the muzzle area to help cool them off. Others might wear those camel-pack cool vests. And still other suiters might just "tough it out" so to speak and try to endure the heat as best they can. Also, staying hydrated and drinking water is very important. ;)

How do you personally deal with the issue Kobuk?
Title: Re: Dew husky or Green tea husky?
Post by: Kobuk on January 02, 2010, 09:11:37 am
Me? I just deal with the heat as best I can. I don't have a fan in the muzzle and I don't own/wear a cool vest. Most I can stand being in suit before needing a break is about 2 hours.

Kobuk you love models, obviously, but I wonder though, how do you feel about Legos?

Loved getting them and playing with them when I was a pup. :) Tried to collect as many as I could too. The sets from the late 1970's are still some of my favorites. :) I wouldn't mind trying to buy, collect, and build more now that I'm older.  :D Legos are something that you never truly outgrow. They are a toy that will outlast just about everything else. ;)

I would feel bad for anybody who never got the opportunity to play with Legos as a kid.

And no, there is absolutely nothing wrong with playing with them at any age ^^

Ok, I'm a little bored right now while waiting for laundry to finish, so I might as well write something about me since these "Meet the Mods/Staff" threads are about the staff.

I think a lot of people already know that I love models and model kit building since I've made posts about it from time to time. But the one question that has never come up and that nobody has asked me is Why? Why do I do it?
Hard to say really. I guess when I was really young, I loved reading about and looking at all the cool military jets, ships, etc. that our armed forces had and that kinda got me into modeling and having my own "miniature" military vehicles so to speak. ;) I guess it's my way of satisfying my "dream" of being in the military, even though I can't join due to bad eyesight. But another reason I got hooked on modeling was due to all the cool spaceships seen in the movie Star Wars so very, very long ago. Back then, there was no CGI in the 70's. So spaceships had to be built the old fashioned way: With models. :) I absolutely loved all the cool spacecraft that were made for movies and wished I could have gotten a SFX (Special Effects) job building them too.

I didn't get my first models till I was 11 when I was bored at my dad's house one day and then decided to take a trip to a toy store to look for something to keep me occupied. Since that time, I've built dozens of models: Ships, aircraft, one truck, and a few spacecraft. The results I had long ago were terrible as I was eager to put together the kit and show it off. But as time moved on, my skills and experience became improved, and now I take what I build to contests and sometimes win awards.

I think what has kept me going into this type of hobby is also the history aspect behind the vehicle, figure, aircraft, etc. I also have a fondness for reading and learning about history. And building models kinda satisfies that need. It's fun and ineresting to learn about the battles that people and vehicles were in, the color schemes aircraft had, and learning about the specific people who fought in a battle, or drove a race car, or something else. Schools and History class can only teach just so much. But when you're building a model car, figure, aircraft, ship, etc., you get to learn a whole lot more history, especially when you need to research the subject you're building in order to get proper colors to use or something else. Modeling can be a rewarding experience, but it takes a lot of skill and patience, both of which don't come easy.

For me, I started out long ago building the basic aircraft, ships, etc. straight from the box. But as time moved on, I found a "niche" that I would soon excel at: "What If's and Never Were's". These are the prototypes, concepts, etc.  that were never built, seen, discussed, or whatever the case might be. Building and taking a German WWII Tiger tank to a contest is nice, but it gets very boring and "stale" seeing the same subjects in magazines or at contests. Modelers today just don't seem to "get out of the box" so to speak.  :P They're too fixated on WWII, Vietnam, or other classic stuff because that's the stuff that has had the most history or coverage of the subject. Building "What If" subjects is a change of pace. It's stuff that nobody has ever seen before. I enjoy building stuff with different color schemes, decals, parts, etc. To me, modeling isn't just about how good the gluing, painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject. If you aren't willing to be creative and use your imagination, then your model is just another lump of plastic in my eyes.  :P

Hey Kobuk, I just took a look through your post, and I guess I never really thought to ask the most basic question: How do you do all this? What techniques/tools/materials do you mainly use? I'm guessing they don't make kits for ships like these, so how do you construct something like this and make sure all the little parts fit together?

Also, is there anything inside the hulls of these ships? If you opened one up, would I see tiny little 1/100 scale sailors in their bunks? :D

What's the story behind this one? I think I told you this, but I can go down to the waterfront here and see the real U.S.S. New Jersey just across the river. ;) What's this fictional version about, though?

Ok, the bunny has a lot of questions. Hmmmm. Let's see.......

Quote
How do you do all this? What techniques/tools/materials do you mainly use?

When I first got into modeling long, long ago, it was mostly trial and error. As time moved on, you meet other modelers and learn tips and techniques from them. Going to model shows and contests also helps too. The biggest resource I found/used was FineScale Modeler magazine: http://www.finescale.com/
When I build, I try not to rush. There's no "due date" that a project has to be done by, unless there's a contest coming up. ;) I can spend as little as an hour a night, or as much as a full day on a model. When it comes to modeling, don't feel like you have to copy everyone else or learn really quick all the tips and techniques others use. It takes a lot of practice and skill to get to where professionals are. Sometimes even years.  :o
As far as tools and materials I use, That varies depending on the subject I'm working on. A sample list would be:
Toothpicks, Various sized paint brushes, Liquid cement, Putty, Sanding paper, X-Acto knife, Razor blades, Coping saw, Tweezers, Small needle files, and the list goes on and on. Just take a look through a hobby store sometime and you'll see various supplies. ;)

Quote
I'm guessing they don't make kits for ships like these, so how do you construct something like this and make sure all the little parts fit together?

Oh, you can find lots of model kits of various subjects at a hobby store or online at a hobby website. Almost anything can be found. All model kits will generally come with an instruction booklet in the box telling you how the pieces fit together, what order they go in, What colors of paint to use, and so forth. As for all the pics I linked to earlier, everything was a kit except for the Montana battleship and the Habakkuk. Both of those are scratchbuilt. What I mean by scratchbuilt is that most of the parts were either made, bought, or came out of extra kits I have at home.

Quote
Also, is there anything inside the hulls of these ships? If you opened one up, would I see tiny little 1/100 scale sailors in their bunks?

No, the insides of ship hulls and aircraft fuselages, etc. are pretty much hollow with little or no interior detailing. Once you put the deck on a ship for example, you wouldn't be able to see anything inside anyway.
HOWEVER........there are modelers who are extremely professionaly talented and will go the extra mile to detail the interior of something just to make the model stand out and be a bit more believeable. Some examples are:
http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery/bb/ijn/yamato-100-jd/jd-index.html
http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery/cv/cvn-65/350-sk/sk-index.html

At the time I built that which was back in 2001/2002, I didn't want to build the New Jersey kit straight from the box. When I build stuff, I like to deviate from the norm and build unusual subjects with my extra decals, parts, etc. There's no "story" behind it. It was just done for fun.

Any other questions?

Ok, this was too funny not to share.  :D Anyway, you know when you're watching a nature program on tv how the narrator or other wildlife person will discuss the animals traits, behavior, personality, etc. and will probably talk in a low voice while "in the field" so to speak so as not to disturb the animals? Well, Kaloyan wrote something up describing my fursona which I thought was really funny.  :D Read below:

Quote
*imitating David Attenborough*

Let us take, as an example of the husky, the legendary green husky: The Dewd. The Dewd is a unique breed of husky, seeming to live solely on green tea and most noteably, the soft drink Mt. Dew.
If one were to observe the husky in his natural habitat they would see him on his daily hunt. Stalking through office corridors and super market aisles, stalking the abundant cans of soft drink it needs to not only survive, but also keep his coat the tint of green it holds.

Much like the Flamingo, Dewds are not born their distinctive color, they aquire it through their dietary habits.

Now......Who here has some Dew? *begins stalking the hallways*  :goldwink:

FINALLY! I'm on vacation from work all next week! Yay!  :D Time for this husky to relax, have fun, and just be lazy!  :P

Pushes all the paperwork off my Furtopian desk and watches it land on the floor in a mess. Then props footpaws up on desk, then leans back in chair, and sips a cold Mt. Dew.

Yep. This is the life. :) Ahhhhhh. *watches as everybody else scurries about and works.  :D

But seriously, I'll probably sleep in late, relax, work on my Project Habakkuk model for summer model contests, and I plan to go to the Harley Davidson motorcycle museum next week Tuesday with some friends. :)

So I'm sure some furs are wondering what I'll actually be getting or what I'd want for my birthday. Well, my birthday isn't going so well today. :( My mother is sick, so she can't visit me and we never got a chance to celebrate Easter and my birthday together with my grandmother. My grandmother said she'd send a card in the mail this week. I'll probably head out to Best Buy today and browse the DVD selections. Don't really have any other plans I guess.  :P Nobody around here to do anything with anyway.
Of course, being a modeler, I'd love to get my paws on this: *drools*

Polar Lights is making a 1/1000 scale kit, but they haven't released it yet.  :'( All websites I've seen say "To be released soon". Two years I've waited. TWO YEARS!  >:( And when it finally becomes available, I'm getting 2-3 of them.......depending on how expensive they are. ;)

Getting to other things............

Back at the end of March, me and my best friend went to a small electronic gaming convention not far from where I work. It was this place:
http://www.midwestgamingclassic.com/
My best friend loves going to this convention because he is an avid pinball gamer. Not only does this con have pinball games, but also all sorts of electronic gaming from the old classics of Colico, Atari, and Intellivision to the modern stuff of PS2, N64, etc., etc. Anything that you want to learn about the history of electronic gaming or buying consoles, spare parts, etc. can be found at this con. I didn't get a chance to take many pics since I was browsing around, but here's what I took from the "Museum" portion of one of the exhibit halls:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v216/icyhusky/midwestgameclassic2010/

And then just yesterday, I went with a friend from work to the Harley Davidson Motorcycle Museum in Milwaukee, WI.
http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/content/pages/hd_museum/museum.jsp?locale=en_us
Adult tickets there are $16. It's a slightly small museum, but I really enjoyed my time there and enjoyed learning about a great piece of Wisconsin history. :) There's also a Gift Shop and a Cafe there, but both are too expensive. Buying anything from the gift shop will cost you dozens or even hundreds of dollars!  :o  :o  :o I did take pics, but didn't get a lot due to my camera being 8 years old and breaking down when I was only half way through the museum.  :'( I did get a good portion of pics, but I apologise if the clarity isn't that good. Also, it's very difficult to take pics of the exhibits due to all the shiny chrome, reflections, etc. So if anybody goes to this museum, then adjust your camera settings accordingly. Anyway, here's what pics I have:

Canines can tolerate milk chocolate- it's only 4% coco. White chocolate is actually just milk chocolate - the actual chocolateness.  :D

I looked this up because it seemed off, but it does seem accurate.  It's worthy to note, though, that white chocolate is actually considerably safer (relatively speaking) than milk chocolate.

Quote from: http://www.dogownersdigest.com/news/library/chocolate-dog-poisoning.shtml
Knowing which chocolate is the most toxic is important, but leaves one wondering how much must be eaten to poison a dog. The list in this box should be helpful. Maybe you can clip it and post it on your refrigerator?

  • White chocolate: 200 ounces per pound of body weight. It takes 250 pounds of white chocolate to cause signs of poisoning in a 20-pound dog, 125 pounds for a 10-pound dog.
  • Milk chocolate: 1 ounce per pound of body weight. Approximately one pound of milk chocolate is poisonous to a 20-pound dog; one-half pound for a 10-pound dog. The average chocolate bar contains 2 to 3 ounces of milk chocolate. It would take 2-3 candy bars to poison a 10 pound dog. Semi-sweet chocolate has a similar toxic level.
  • Sweet cocoa: 0.3 ounces per pound of body weight. One-third of a pound of sweet cocoa is toxic to a 20-pound dog; 1/6 pound for a 10-pound dog.
  • Baking chocolate: 0.1 ounce per pound body weight. Two one-ounce squares of bakers' chocolate is toxic to a 20-pound dog; one ounce for a 10-pound dog.

The website cites baking chocolate (as well as a dog's immediate addiction to chocolate and inability to recognize baking chocolate as more dangerous) as the reason why dogs should not be given chocolate in spite of the high amounts of standard chocolate required to poison a dog.

VOTE FOR THE NEW DEW! (No, I'm not talking about changing my fursona.)

I just recently heard about these new flavors of Dew yesterday and had to get my paws on them right away.  :D There is the "Typhoon" flavor which I am trying now which has a fruit punch flavor and tastes pretty good. ;) Then there is the "Distortion" flavor which has a lime flavor to it. And then there is the "White Out" flavor which is supposed to have a citrus taste to it. I'll try the Distortion and White Out flavors later this week at work. Has anyone else tried these flavors and what did you think of them?

Didn't they come out with a Code Red and Something that was Blue too?

I don't do sodas anymore (darn heathy diet) so I won't be able to help you out with this one and I personaly hate the taste of most diet sodas. Ofcourse this does make me quite a hippocrit when I'm at my local pub enjoying the fruits of other types of beverages, but that is my only exception.

Ok, getting back to Kaloyan's question which I haven't answered yet....... :-[  In no particular order, here's at least 5 of my favorite books out of the hundreds I have.

1. "Stealth Aircraft" by Bill Sweetman. This book started my interest in gov't black projects and stealth aircraft. I have every one of his books.
2. "Day of the Cheetah" by Dale Brown. Excellent military techno thriller novel about high tech aerial combat. Dale Brown and Tom Clancy are two of my favorite military techno writers.
3. "Macross Perfect Memory" - This is a Japanese art book about the entire original Macross Japanese anime from 1982. I saw a friend in high school bring in this book to read and I was amazed by all the artwork, blueprints, and everything else. That book started my long road into getting interested in anime, specifically Macross and Robotech. :) I still have my copy of the book sitting on a shelf.
4. "Heir to the Empire" trilogy by Timothy Zahn. Kudos to Timothy Zahn for writing and resurrecting the Star Wars series into a wonderful and exciting 3 book trilogy!  :)
5. "Area 51: The Dreamland Chronicles" by David Darlington. Probably the only "decent" book out there about the government's super secret miltary test facility called Area 51. Although the book does go slightly into UFO's and some other nonsense crap, It is still the only decent thing out there. I got this book because of my interest in black projects and stealth aircraft.

Any other questions?

I am open to the "possibility" of aliens, alien visitation, etc., etc. But I absolutely will not believe every piece of crap nonsense spewed forth by crackpots and other weirdos.  :P Every time somebody says they saw a UFO or described something else, then I'd like to see proof. *cough, cough*  x_x

Anyway, not much is new with me. Been putting in a lot of work days and long hours the last 2-3 weeks. So I'm pretty tired.  x_x Can hardly wait for this coming Saturday as I'll be at my local model club meeting for an auction for charity. :) It's always good to see my fellow modelers and talk about what we've been doing. Hopefully the tables will be full once again this year with loads of kits to bid on. :) Having lots of money is essential as some people can get into bidding wars over rare and valuable kits. ;) Hopefully, I'll come away with some good stuff. All the raised money goes to various charities devoted toward children and/or war veterans. After the auction, then we all head toward a local restaurant to celebrate. Maybe if I get a chance, I'll snap a few pics from the auction to share. ;)

Looks like a good pick there. And not a bad price for a 23" screen, either. Samsung just makes some great displays. I'm sure you're enjoying the better contrast and colors from the CRT.

If you don't mind, I'm curious as to what resolution you are actually running it on, as you said that font/icon size was a concern for you.

Oh, and did you ever try that Green River soda?

Speaking of sodas, I recently tried Mountain Dew Distortion Kobuk, I loiked it. To me it kinda tastes like Dew with some Sprite added to it. My dad didn't care for it but I've alreadt polished off three bottle of it. I don't drink that much dew regularly. :D

I'm not sure I'll give the others a try as I've heard bad things about them, like the White one tasting really thick and having a sick aftertaste.

But yeah, what about that Green River soda eh? ;)

I got a new 24" Led Acer a while back...  My old one was getting hard to see
at times. This new one is noticably brighter with better contrast than my old one.

Sure like how cool this new one runs. My old flat panel got so hot it smelled like a something was about to burn up at times.

It accepts digital video inputs as well as RGB anolog.

I would advice for whiter robes in lieu of my favored class... but then of course, the link would be lost X3

Where's the bacon?

Sadly, I didn't get it. I'll explain more later. ;) Anyway, I went to another model contest in Milwaukee, WI that is held annually about every October 30th. Turnout for model entries and participants was fairly decent, but still not a high amount. I took my Habakkuk model to the contest, even though it was still only 95-98% done and I still had a few minor details to finish as well as adding all the engine pods along the sides of the main hull.
The Ship Catagory saw some very nice entries, any one of which could've beaten my Habakkuk. There was a really good sailing ship, and also a USS Missouri battleship which looked nice.
Suffice to say, I came away with some very good results. :) I took First Place in the Ship Catagory, and I also got the Reserve Grand Champion Prize. Now for that second item, let me explain how that works:

The contest is split up into two sections: Adult, and Juniors. Adult being the section for participants 18 and over to enter their model entries. Juniors being the section for participants under 18 to enter their entries. Each section has 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place awards for various catagories like Figures, Cars, Dioramas, etc., etc. I won 1st Place in the Ship Catagory for the Adult Section.
Each section also has Special awards for excellence, craftsmanship, etc., etc. The Adult Section had 2-3 Special awards. Grand Champion award went to another modeler who I believe built a scratchbuilt yellow construction vehicle. Reserve Grand Champion award went to my Habakkuk! Yay! :) Grand Champion is sorta like Best in Show. Reserve Grand Champion is sorta like 2nd Place Best in Show. There is also a special "Masters Class" which is by invitation only where people with high skills and excellence (and a few other factors) can enter their models for competition. My Habakkuk did not meet the requirements to get invited into the Master Catagory.
This contest does not give out trophies or cash, etc. We do get certificates showing what rank/place we got, but this contest gives out food items instead. Odd, I know, but that's how this contest has been done for years. The only catagories that get food items are the 2-3 Special awards I mentioned above. Food items are not given for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Places, just certificates instead. Grand Champion is about a 15 lb. smoked ham. Reserve Grand Champion is a 15-20 lb. turkey. And the grand prize for the Masters catagory is 5 lbs. of bacon. You can pretty much guess what I got. ;) So anyway, here's the pics from the contest. Enjoy. The first pic in the album shows the turkey in my freezer.

Staying naval or going to go for something different? I bet no one ever attempted the Gustov gun from WWII. That was the largest artillery cannon used. I bet it would be a worthy attempt.

Yes, most models are built from kits found in a hobby store. But there are others that are scratchbuilt, meaning that some models can be built from plastic sheet, brass rod, and all manner of different materials.

What is the most fun time you've ever had at a con? I want a story please. (:

Well.........I guess the most fun con, or "specific time" at a con, was when I went to FC2007 (Further Confusion). It was my first furry con that some friends helped get me to. Probably the best time was when I was in two skits in the FNL. One was by Wolfnevets, and the other was by Far Raptor. The one by Far was probably the most challenging, scary, and entertaining for me. I was really nervous about being in his Re-Animator skit. I kept thinking what would happen if something went wrong or if I made a mistake, etc. I was just a bundle of jittery nerves being up on stage during that time. But during the whole con before the skit took place on Sat. evening, I practiced my part, Talked with Far and others, and just tried to not be nervous as much as possible. It was my first time ever being up on stage for anything in front of a lot of people. But with a lot of practice and guidance from Far and others, I played my part well and the skit was a huge success. Probably ranks as one of the top ten skits ever created and shown at a con. But despite my nervousness and misgivings, I was glad to be a part of it and I'm glad Far asked me to be in it. :) I only deeply regret not going back to FC2008 for Far's sequel that he made. :( The video is here:

I need suggestions for good movies to buy.

I was at Barnes & Noble today on a break from work, and they had a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" DVD movie promotion going on till Jan. 31st this month. I've already selected two titles I want which are "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" and a WW2 movie "The Guns of Navarone". Anybody got suggestions for a third movie I should get? It doesn't necessarily have to be furry. My favorite genres to watch are: Sci-fi, Fantasy, Action/Adventure, and Comedy.

When I say fight, I mean videogame-style, so unbelievably over the top..

Kickass? I'm not sure if you'd like it though. "It is the story of Dave Lizewski, a teenager who sets out to become a real life superhero. His actions are publicized on the Internet and inspire others. He gets caught up with ruthless vigilantes Hit-Girl and Big Daddy who are on a mission to take down the gangster John Genovese."

I haven't seen the film, but I read the book, and it was fantastic.

I'll agree that Scott Pilgram was a fun little movie. I mean, the girl whips out the infamous "Hyper-dimisional Hammer" in one of the scenes, I was like "OMG This is cool" when I saw that. I've been a fan of the Hyper-dimensional Hammer for like 20 years from comics books n stuff. Never thought I'd actually see one on a real (non-animated) movie. Oh, and she may be young enough to be my daughter, but the red headed drummer is really hot. She wears kitty ears too by the way.

Bear down, Chicago Bears, make every play clear the way to victory;
Bear down, Chicago Bears, put up a fight with a might so fearlessly.
We'll never forget the way you thrilled the nation with your T-formation.
Bear down, Chicago Bears, and let them know why you're wearing the crown.
You're the pride and joy of Illinois, Chicago Bears, bear down.

35 to 24 baby, goobye hawks. Hello meat-packers. The Bears and Packers have the longest running arch rivalry in NFL history and will meet for the first timce since 1941 in a post season game. This will be interesting.

Glad da Bears had some post season games though, and you gotta admit, for a third string QB, Hanie didn't do a bad job at all. He nearly tied the game at the end.

You mean the pic I posted today in the IRL thread? Those are 5x magnifying glasses I've had for a very, very long time. The lenses are prescription made. If I lose those glasses or something else happens to them, then I have to shell out another $250 for a new pair.  x_x Store bought magnifying glasses only go up to about 3x which doesn't help much.

Just a small life update tonight. Maybe could use a few opinions too. ;)
Anyway, I got a rather interesting email from a modeling friend tonight. Seems the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Museum in Oshkosh, WI is having some type of family themed event in April: http://www.eaa.org/calendar/eventdetail.aspx?id=9485
I'm not sure who has been talking to whom or what was said, but the EAA is interested in having me display my Project Habakkuk aircraft carrier model there.  :o
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/icyhusky/habbakukmodel/DSC03826.jpg
Why, I don't know? There's no model contest there from what I could find out. Seems kinda odd for me to display a ship model there when the EAA Museum is mostly about aircraft and aviation instead, not ships.

I don't know. Should I go?

About two years ago when my Trad Irish session group broke up the first time, I was invited to play with a Bluegrass inspired southern rock acoustic session. That style of music at the time never really did it for me, but I thought, eh, why not and I attended about a year of their sessions and jams. Last week, Chicago kicked off its St. Pat's season with the Manhattan Irish Fest. Who was hired to open the festival? The same players from the bluegrass/southern rock band that I previously drummed for. But they wanted a more celtic feel to their music and asked me to join them. So, I got to play in front of a thousand people or more. It was great, but I never would have had that opportunity unless I took the chance two years ago and tried something I had never done before.

Long story short, Do it! It could lead to a nicer opportunity in the future.

Not sure what to expect at this event, but I'll hope to have plenty of pics to share when I get back. For now though, I've only got about a week and a half to finish detailing my model for presentation display.  :o Eeeeeep! I'm going to be damn busy in the next several days.  x_x

Continuing from Post 349 on Page 14 of this thread........I went to the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) with another modeling friend today. It was good to go back there as I hadn't been to the EAA museum since I was 8 or 9.
The event I went to wasn't a contest, but rather a bunch of modelers bringing their built aviation and other kits to display and talk to kids about modeling and help get them interested in aviation, etc. It was a pretty good event. A bit short, but good nonetheless. :) Anyway, here's the pics I took if anyone is interested. See if you can guess which pics are of plastic model kits, and which ones are models built entirely out of paper.  :o Even I had a tough time telling them apart. I did take some pics of various museum aircraft, but not as much as I had hoped since my camera battery was dying. Enjoy.

*steps up to podium and begins to give an announcement*

Ahem.

While it's been great having and wearing my green and white husky fursuit that I got from Lacy about 5 years ago, I now feel that the time has come to retire the suit. While I have had a lot of good times wearing it, There have been some fit and design issues which have been nagging me over the years, and I feel that I want to get a newer style of suit rather than just try and rework/alter/update my old style suit. I simply want to start over from scratch. Therefor, my current old Kobuk husky suit will now be 99.99% retired. Why only 99% ?  Well, It is possible that until I get a new suit (Hopefully in 2013), I may have to drag the old critter back out of the closet at some point "just in case" I may need it.

So it is with a sad farewell that I say that my old suit is going bye-bye. To those who saw him at AC2011, I hope you enjoyed seeing him around, getting a hug, and getting a pic. :)

Until I get my new husky suit, It's possible, though slim, I might be getting a new coyote partial. It'll be realistic with taxidermy eyes, jawset, etc. and will be just the head, hands, and tail. AC2013's theme is "The Furry Illuminati" and my coyote concept will fit in nicely with that theme. ;)

No, your eyes do not decieve you. This is not an illusion. Even though I'll bet you wish it were.  :D I have changed my fursona from a green and white Mountain Dew drinking husky, to a steel blue and gray colored Gray Wolf.
<---------
This is not a permanent change.......though it could be in the future at any time. ;) This is just a secondary fursona that I am developing........mostly as a possible future fursuit character. ;)
A few characteristics:
* Steel blue and gray colored fur
* North American Gray Wolf species
* Digitigrade
* Has powerful fangs of hardened steel blue color.
* Eye color of some shade of blue, but not determined yet.
* Height: Maybe about 6' 9" (To tips of ears)
* His odd fur colors and steel fangs make him a bit of an outcast to other wolves. But other wolves both respect him and fear him for his strength and leadership.
* Can be caring and friendly at times, but will fervently fight for what he believes in. Other wolves tend to fear his steel fangs lest they get into a fight with him and are bitten to remind them of where they belong in their pack, etc.
* Usually wears a pair of khaki cargo shorts with side pockets, a khaki colored vest with front pockets, and sometimes a hat.
* Need a new name for this character, but not sure of what?

Any questions?

Look at the last line of his description a little more closer:
"* Need a new name for this character, but not sure of what?"

I'm going to suggest a name: Blue Gnu. Its perfect, rolls off the tongue so easily and it rhymes with Dew so it will make any songs that I may write about him so much easier.

So is this really an alt sona,  or is it taking over as main?

If it's taking over as main,  why change the name?  :3

Kobuk is an awesome name.   ^^

If you really want to,  you can look up names from more Alaskan rivers.  o.o

It's a secondary fursona for a possible future fursuit character. ;)

Since you are already using an Inuit name, I thought maybe anotherโ€ฆ

Amaruq

Pronounced [Um-ma-rook] or [Um-ma-rouk] It is the Inuktitut word for wolf, or grey wolf depending on the region.

I know that, what is basically wolf as a name for a wolf is not exactly creative, but I guess itโ€™s how you look at it.

And another,

Kiijivaa

Is Inuktitut for "to steal with teeth" as in reference to a dog or canine,
A dog steals something from someone, or uses his teeth to steal something, or snaps / bites with teeth.

Now I'm not completely sure on the pronunciation of this one, but I think it's [Key-je-va] or may be [Key-j'v-a].

you need a unique avatar again! I'm getting confused what with a couple other people also using avatars from the gallery, and they are the same one. Avan: Look at the 2 posts above yours. I posted in green because the Packers were winning. :)
I don't know yet if I'm keeping the wolf avatar and the light blue text. It's just all a test for trying out the possibility of a secondary fursona as well as a special wolf fursuit in the future.
Would you rather prefer I go back to being a green and white Mt. Dew husky and post in green text again?
Title: Re: Dew husky or Green tea husky?

I usually just glance at the avatar, and only read text when I must, eyesight issues. sort of a lazy habit, but hey, I am lazy. you don't have to change text color on account of me though.  having a unique avatar always helps. is offer to make one, but just ask poor sabe how me and gift arting tends to work out... Ok, I'm back to being......well.....me.  :-[  :D The previous wolf avatar and blue/gray text font colors I was using for months were just a test to see if I would enjoy having a wolf fursona and such and trying to "get into character" for the possibility of getting a wolf fursuit in the future.
But, not all "experiments" so to speak work out very well.  :( So, I'm back to being my old green and white Mountain Dew drinking husky self.  :)

My favorite font is Verdana,  but for a menu you might try Calibri and see if you like it.  It looks like this:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Aenean egestas fringilla lacus id venenatis. Duis placerat magna a justo tristique faucibus. Suspendisse potenti.

I like Calibri, but it is a smaller font. I'll usually notch up my font size by a point when I'm using Calibri. Verdana is naturally a bit larger.

I was just looking through my fonts list in Word, and I'm kinda digging Candara.

Well, AC2012 is over. That con represented the last time I will have worn my green and white fursuit which you see in my avatar on the left. My current Kobuk Husky fursuit is now 100% OFFICIALY AND PERMANENTLY RETIRED. The End. It's been a good suit and was made by a good maker almost 6 years ago. But fit and design issues have prompted me to start designing a new Version 2.0 Kobuk fursuit to hopefully premier for AC2013 or 2014. I simply want something newer, better, and more current. A new fursuit maker has not been selected yet.

I finally figured out which post of yours it was that got me into the fandom, kobuk. It was one of yours that gave the details on fursuit commissioning. I`d quote it, but i`m using a flip phone at the moment and i dont know if its even possible to quote on a flip phone. So here`s how it happened.
Me: logs onto computer, is bored, types random words on google. "Fursuit" is typed in. Clicks on random links. Finds the furtopia link. Actually reads the post. Gets interested and goes off to look up the fandom.
TWENTY MINUTES LATER,......

me: logs off computer. Decides he likes the fandom and would like to join. Five seconds after this.....
me: FEELS ABSOLUTELY EPIC `CAUSE HE`S A FURR NOW!!!!! LONG LIVE THE FANDOM!!!!

Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday to me. Oh, wait. I still have two more hours to go. Damn.  :P

*sigh*

As an early birthday present to myself, I bought one of these last night:
http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/misc/amphib/350-lhd1-mrc/mrc-review.html
Got it for a good price too! $179.00  With Shipping, it came to $195.00   Normal retail price is about $240-260.00   :o
When built, it'll look similar to this:
http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery/am/lhd/350-pvb/pvb-index.html
.
Should be arriving in the mail next week. :) Wish I could build it now, but I have a friend's aircraft carrier model to finish first. :(

(*wishes Kobuk a Happy Birthday as well*)

...it's still the 5th somewhere...

...Also, it occurred to me as I read through your link that advances in 3D printing are likely to have awesome implications in that field in the near future.  I suspect that it'll soon be possible (and soon after that, economical) to buy the blueprints for ships which can then be printed at home (or reprinted in part should some part break or become otherwise ruined).

(*looks forward to the future with a juvenile anticipation of sorts*)

@Redyoshi:  Funny you should mention 3D. There's already talk on a few modeling forums about kits and aftermarket accessories possibly being made that way. Some people are already doing some tests and experiments right now on making and offering sample parts.

Comic book series about space-furries. It's from the 80s, so in the fandom's very very very young days. Very good, and there's even a table-top RPG based off of it that I've been playing with some friends.

The back of issue #1 featured a certain character by the name of Miyamto Usagi, or Usagi-Yojimbo who later went on to have his own series that's still running.

one thing i always wondered is what it tastes like when you mix coca cola and mtn dew.....

I did that on Thursday at the cinema watching the hunger games, with one of those huge coca cola cups that are somehow only classed regular size O_O and a bottle of mountain dew. It's got a very sweet tang to it when you mix them, i liked it, but i made sure i took anti acid tablets that day

Never seen bottled dew, Quick, mix em before Kobuk sees XD

Yay! Party! *Hugs Kobuk*

Must be celebratory and drink Dew... for the second time, ever.  Oh yes, and congrabulations on your graduation! (Retirement is a form of graduation, right?)

*Noms on a can of dew... without opening it; becomes confused.*

Mr Kobuk, i thought this was supposed to taste good! :D

Nnngggh, who's idea was it to put this in cans anyway!?

*notices Dew tree, stands, mesmerized by the shiny green-ness of it*

(you know, i've only had Mountain Dew once, ever.  It was pretty good, but its hard to come by where i am.)

I'm not sure, but I guess if there's a song/theme that best fits all I've done, where I've gone, and so forth, I'd like to think it might be this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmQsrXLofMY

that person did a great job at that vid. i find it pretty amazing on how much humanity has accomplished in just about 300years before that it was chaos with lots of death and stuff. but now look what we have done we are going into space and learning more stuff   (":
same pretty much goes for furtopia, i had no idea what it was like back then but by what i have heard there had been lots of improvements. i wonder what this sight will be like in another 10 years....

As am I...

I'm sorry I missed your party Kobuk, but here is a late retirement gift:

How does it refill itself?  The world may never know, but hopefully it lasts until the far reaches of forever because I got the special Infinite Supply model.  :D

If anybody has any questions, well wishes, goodbyes, or anything else they want to ask me, then go ahead. Even though I stepped down as an Admin, I asked the other staff to keep my thread here open for one final week till late Saturday night (Nov. 30) for anything final people may want to say.
