Are we allowed to have a discussion about how half of those options are ludicrously mislabelled? What about black people who are neither African nor American? And "Native American Indian" is a phrase that shouldn't exist outside of a Wheel of Fortune "Before & After" answer. And... Muslim? Seriously? It doesn't even make sense to label Arabs that way since there are more Asian Muslims than Arab Muslims.

I think you need to reconstruct this poll to traditional ethnic groups. African American is way too specific. Also muslim is not a race.

as for me im 1/4 German, 1/4 Korean, and ~2/4 Italian. i barely look Asian/Korean though (barely anyone at school believed i was Korean) so i pretty much just consider my self white.

Those are "ethnicities", Graywolf. Not races. Korean is an "ethnicity" of the Asian "race". For example, French, German, Dutch, Polish are all ethnicities of European race.

Definition of ethnic group: "a community or population made up of people who share a common cultural background or descent".

This is what I meant by traditional ethnic groups:
Asian
Indian
European
African
Middle Eastern
Other

etc. Basically the main races based on skin color, geographical location and culture.

Also, you did reconstruct the poll. But you still have "African American", so a person that is of African descent but not an American would have to select "other". Also "Native Indian" might confuse some, maybe "Native American" would be better?

Though your curiosity was innocent Kobuk I don't think we should be
looking to see what ethnic backgrounds that we the members have.

It has the hint of racism even though it wasn't intended. We are all human
beings on this planet earth. And the sooner we learn to live with that fact the
better.

I think most people in the Americas have a muliti ethnic background, but
it's becoming more common around the world.

Why not change or add to your poll to show different major areas of the world
instead of race or ethnicity.

Europe
Eurasia
Africa

I am a human on Planet  Earth

I think that would be more interesting.

O.R. - There is nothing racism about my poll. And I strongly resent the fact that you think there is.  This poll was created just out of curiosity. Nothing more. It is a poll just to collect numerical statistics just like any other poll that a person would post in the Polling forum. Just because I posted this poll does not make me racist. And from what I can see, I have not violated any Furtopia rules by posting this poll.

Kobuk I apologize that I gave the impression your poll was racist. I felt
the idea of asking people to give their race or background hinted at it. I was
wrong, I should have said it could make some uncomfortable by asking the
question of our members. I am sorry and will try to be more careful of my
words in the future.
