Wow. Pretty good. Definitely a new twist to your writing. What was the muse for this?

Lost and Found Under the Northen Lights

The seed for this story was planted my head late last summer while way out in the middle of nowhere. A couple friends and I had been enjoying a few beers and telling old stories around the fire and as things wound down in the early hours of the morning the delicate streamers of the Northern Lights began to dance in the sky above. All three of us suddenly stopped talking and just stared, enthralled, as the eerie green bands of light shifted and twisted over our heads.

I'll never forget that sight. I'd seen it many times before but this particular time it was different. Pine trees and mountains surrounded us on all sides, and they were as shadows against an aurora and starlit sky that was deeper than I ever remember seeing before. When finally I crawled into my tent I started thinking that I could make a story out of this and I actually lay awake for several hours thinking about it. The distant howling of a pack of wolves sometime during the night gave the seed of the new story everything else it need to grow.

Yes, it is a bit different than my other writings but I think that's a good sign. One can't always write about the same old stuff and this new story was a welcome distraction from my novels.

I have a couple of other similar short works gathering dust on my HD. I have a tendency towards writing the occasional descriptive short based on an experience or a sight I've seen while wandering the road of life. One day I may polish them up and post them... '<img'>
I let my mind wander once, but it never came back...
