FLLLLAAAAAAT
« on: May 31, 2012, 06:50:29 am »

Sorry it's so small.... my boyfriend basically agreed to let me take a picture of it on his phone so he could photobucket it, and I didn't realize how TINY the image would be....

But yes, I keep on noticing that mt anatomy's a bit off, and that my faces are extremely flat. Any tips?

It's all in the shading. Anything that is 3 dimensional gives a shadow and without said shadow it turns up flat. If you draw a circle ot is but only a circle, but if that circle is covered in a shadow, it becomes a ball

As Aliikaiokai said, shading will keep it from looking flat. However, another simple thing is to not use lined paper. The lines tend to add to the flat look.

Another thing that helps is perspective...for example, having something closer to you appear bigger.  But the biggest factor in invoking three dimensions is shading...

An excessively larger photo. :P I was trying to use foreshortening in the torso, but I guess that didn't quite work?

Okay, thank you for telling me :P :-[ I'm trying to wrestle Quizzilla right now. If I win, you'll have decently sized picks.

A soft lead pencil  is good for shading practice. It's easy to erase and
you can rub it with your fingers to create soft shading effects.

Keep up the good work. :orbunny:
