I wear collars on a fairly regular basis. I have several custom made ones, and a few from a really neat petstore here (Rinestones! Oooo). I wear mine to work, although my boss has recently implimented a 'No Dog Collars' rule... Fortunately for me, my neck is too thin to wear most dog collars. I wear cat collars. Mua ha ha.

However, I've only ever gotten positive comments from my collars. I was standing in line one time at Dairy Queen, and I suppose I like to dress up a little bit formal for no reason. So I was wearing my nice corset, skirt and collar. A young boy comes up to me, and tugs on my coat. I turn and smile: "Yes?"  "Excuse me, pretty lady, but I wanted to tell you that you sure are pretty and I love your neckalce!"  "Aww... Aren't you sweet! Thank you. You've made my day"  "~big smile and runs back to his mom~"

I think it might just be my area, which is fortunate. A lot of artists live here locally, and attend various festivals so there are a lot of strange folks that come around throughout the year. People don't ask questions anymore ("Why on earth are you wearing that?!")... They just go about their business (usually).

I must admit, I'd be very sad if I feared wearing a collar in public :( So, you guys should just come up and chill here. Woo. Road trip  :)

I want to get a collar, so I've been wondering how "socially acceptable" they are as well. I suppose it just depends on where you live.

I wear mine every day, if I'm out of the house. I don't wear it just to sit around, it's my "out and about" collar. but, then, my collar (<---LINK) was custom made by Collar Factory (ALSO A LINK), and so it looks more like a human collar than a dog collar (even though I wear my dog tag on it). x3 So I usually don't get too many weird looks for the collar...usually people are too busy gawking at my tail to even notice the collar! XD

But yeah. This particular collar hasn't yet been worn to school, yet, but I used to wear my old collar at school and never had a problem with them telling me to take it off, so I'll be interested to see if anyone says anything about this one. :3 Hopefully not, but with the rules at my school getting more and more strict with each passing year, who knows what ridiculous new rule they'll enforce to destroy out individuality. -.-

well as of so far I have only wore it to bed, or when i was up late. When sleeping i just loosen it up a tad, a vam it's perfect, that way i turn the buckle to the oppsite side i'm sleeping on. me has a doggie collar sized 22-26in. when wearing (not sleeping) i have it on about 23 maybe 23.5
the standard brand new size is way to tight.

i like to be able to tense my neck to get it to fit. anyhow once a few more ppl close to me know about me being a furry, i'll wear it in public. :)

I wear my collar all the time, and the only negative comment I ever got was in a student evaluation of a presentation I did in class.  The guy wrote "It's hard to take you seriously when you're wearing a dog tag.  Look presentable next time."  I just disregarded it totally.  There ARE certain places where wearing a collar would be inappropriate, but only the places in which wearing any large jewelry or adornment would be inappropriate, like in a business setting.  Otherwise, even in semi-formal occasions, I don't see anything wrong with it.

I myself wear my collar just about 24/7 the only time that I take is off is to get a shower but I but it back on when my neck is dried, the only bad thing about it is that all the sweat build up on it seeps into the collar and it can be hard scraping it all off to make it look like new again.

i went and got two of the particularly small sized dog collars and most places i go ahead and tighten them enough to use them as wristbands and all but whenever i feel the urge i can pop it off and turn it into a real collar.

you know it really is a pain finding black and blue zebra parts  :P I have a fox tail and obviously like i said i have the collars but zebras don't wear collars too often or dye their tail. sigh...

but I'm very pleased to have these now (specially the tail) but i cant tell u how many times i heard the joke 'hey, can i get a little tail?'    hehehe

I wear my collar literally 24-7. Well, except for when I shower, or when I have work, but they're the only times I take it off.
If I had a different job, I'd probably leave the thing on, but I work at Subway and thus, it's an OH&S issue, and I feel I should probably take it off due to that.

But I've never gotten any negative remarks, aside from the occasional drunken idiot asking "are you a cat, or a dog, woof woof" etc.

I get more remarks about the ears and tail, people hardly even notice the collar.

I just find it so much more comfortable, and feel naked and vulnerable without it, as opposed to vulnerable and fearful whilst wearing it. It's just part of me, I've been wearing it for so long, and I can't imagine myself without it. It's just a regular pet collar, so it's different to all the emo/goth collars, and I get remarks about it being different.

My really good friend got me a new dangly for my collar too, it used to be a little round Gir face (woo, Zim) that looked like a pet tag, but now it's a jingly kitty bell with a talisman attached. It's so awesome : )

I also have the registration tag from my old cat, so it's really not like a people collar at all and people just like it : )

I wear a collar (my mates) every day with any out fit (unless its a job interview) I see nothing wrong with it. If you are comfortable, have at it. dont let others tell you youre an idiot for wearing one. (just thought id throw that in there  (: )

True words, but I personally don't think I'd be up to wearing a collar, not utill I found a mate anyway.

So it would be a symbol of love or friendship, rather than of self-expression, huh?

Just use your best judgment.  I think the line on this one should be rather obveous when you look at specific situation.

For example...   Funeral...  Wedding...  Job interview... Your Dads 40th birthday party...  Maybe,  not such a good idea...

But when your wearing cassual stuff and your out with friends...  Heh,  why not?

Just think it through.    (:

I agree with Alsek on this.  I usually wear mine all day, but I'll take it off for things like group presentations.

I use to wear mine every day in public or at home...but then i got tired of shaving every day and stopped cuz it iches if i haven't shaved. And I started working a lot more than I was before. But it was fun. I had an old biker dude look at me like I was crazy in Wal-Mart once.  :D

I wear my collar (a small, black, leather dog collar I purchased from a pet store, hehe) on most of my outings, I used to be real heavy emo though and now I'm into the goth fashion but people have never really taken any note of it too much, other than of course being around friends and having BDSM jokes made and once in a store a leash attached to me by a friend and being dragged around the store, I've never really had any response. I've never worn it to school due to tight dress code but once I wore it when I met my (now ex) boyfriend's parents for the first time, they actually thought it was cute! My mum would object of it and tell me to take it off but I found a simple soloution, if you don't want people noticing the fact you're wearing a dog collar just put the buckle facing back (works if you have long hair) works for me until I'm out of mum's sight :D

I have often considered buying a collar, but then I think, "Why wear a collar? I'm a wild fox, not a pet!"

I'm a member of the noblest of species -- the wolf (send your complaints to my mailbox), but I still wear a collar!  I guess I do it for the ironic cuteness?  Either way it's addictively fun!  I think would wrap my neck in one even if I was a dragon.

My area isn't exactly full of "chavs" but I don't feel like many people would like it much.  I bought a collar at wal mart the other day, and I nearly wore it into the school this morning.  I even stopped and talked with someone before I realized I still had it on.  I'd meant to leave it in my car.  Luckily, I had my letter jacket on and had the collar turned up, so I don't think anyone really noticed it.  I really want to wear it at school or something, but...  Well, it's a scary thought sometimes.

I wear some collar for..according to the tag...'small exotic animals'. ._. So I went with it being a wolverine collar. I wear it everyday, all day except night and showers until I get used to sleeping with it on of course.

I might actually get a collar soon. It all started as a joke gift from my mom to me. she said she got me an early Christmas. but it turned out it was some dear antler hat. but it got me thinking if I would get a furry gift what would it be. now the next time i go to the pet store I'll take my mom to the isle with all the collars and ask her which one looks good on me. she'll think its funny as hell and might even get it for me for the lulz. but she wont knowI'll actually want it to wear and If I told her that shed think i was crazy but if i do it this wasy I might actually be able to get one.  :goldlaugh: :goldlaugh:
