why is furry such a big thing
« on: January 31, 2011, 10:26:35 pm »
Something sparked a question in my head lately. Why is it so hard to say to your parents you're a furry? And above that, why is it something that you absolutely NEED to say?(my case right now) it seems at first glance that the fandom is just that, a fandom, and nothing to be treated like sexual preference or religion which it often is. Sure, for some people, it's a way of life (a little bit of that in my case) but can't that be said about punk rockers and pretty much any other sub-culture? just some food for thought. :)

My answers to your questions are, respectively: it's not; it shouldn't be; it's not; and, yes. In other words, I agree with you. ;)

This is actually a good question. Around here, most of us agree that furry is a fun hobby and just not that big a deal. Yet early on, so many furs go through a phase where they feel driven to "come out" to everyone about being furry and make it into a huge production. Why? What about furry inspires this?
