Kimba is airing on the Inspirational Life channel right now; it's some random channel up in all those religious channels you get on digital cable or satellite (I would never have found it if my TiVo hadn't recommended it '<img'> ).

When you think about it, most of Disney's works are inspired on something else... A Re-Adaptation or a Rip-Off.

I... guess there could always be the chance that that "kimba" thing was made after the lion king, but the people who made it, are trying to claim it was made... before?

I dont know. Whatever the case, the animation in the lion king looks a LOT better to me.

I have (but have yet to watch) the Kimba box set. The original copyright listed on the back is 1966.

I agree kiyoshi... not I want to see Kimbas story.. have to see if I can find it.

Last I checked Amazon carried it.

From what I understand, though, there were legal problems that came when they tried to release it all on video. The production team was able to secure the rights to the actual animation, though they were not able to do so for the soundtrack. They ended up having to re-record everything with new voices and music.

That was a few years ago, but I think I heard some time later that the legal problem was resolved. I wouldn't know, I'm not a follower of that particular series.

*shrugs*
Yeah, as a matter of fact I DO own the road . . . .

If I could, I would also like to watch it... or have a better look into this whole thing.

If you want to sample the original Kimba series easily, you can get them from Netflix.  Be aware, the series is pretty dated now.  After all, it was produced in the 1960s.  It is still cute... but dated.

Just to prove this thing.. I had Kimba shown at Morphicon.
That show that was on NBC is the biggest load of CRAP *EVER*.  It is so bad!  Lion King does have some striking resemblances to it, but *hell no*.  It is NOT a remake or a ripoff.
The Lion King is a tribute to Hamlet.  NBC's Kimba is a tribute to  CRAP.
I've got the videos to prove it.
I wonder if I might think it's less crappy if I saw the original Japanese series that wasn't produced for America.  (Yes, Osamu was commissioned to produce some of Kimba JUST for NBC)

In fact, when the Lion King came out, there was this big thing about "oh it ripped off Kimba".  I watched a news magazine special about it once.  They interviewed the creator of Kimba and he said "I am very flattered that you would even COMPARE Disney's Masterpiece to Kimba."
So the way I see it, if the author doesn't seem to think he was ripped off, he wasn't.  He wouldn't even think about suing.  Don't you think he WOULD have by now?

Did it follow the same sort of story line as the lion king, though?

I remember watching Kimba while growing up and I did think that the Lion King was inspired in part by that series.
