Another American hero has passed away. This time, it's Eugene Cernan, one of the last Apollo space program astronauts to walk on the moon.  :'(

Time passes for us all. We should remember him for his courage and love
of adventure. He made us proud to be americans. I hope we have many
more people like him to help our country excel in a competitive world.

I met the LM pilot--Harrison "Jack" Schmitt--from the Apollo 17 mission when he came to Midland , MI.  Also a retired Navy chaplain who knew Gene and filled in at our church when our pastor died.  Gene was know for some salty language. Cernan was one of my favorite astronauts.

This year, at Rocket Fest 2017, I plan to attend the night launch event and fly a Saturn V replica to commemorate the only night launch of a Saturn rocket. This year will mark the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 17 mission

The sad thing is we haven't returned to the moon. The brave
explorers who broke ground by going to the moon must have
been discouraged by the fact we haven't returned. The space
station is fine, but a base on the moon would teach man how
to survive and work on worlds beyond ours.

Our leaders have spent Trillions on useless wars, but relatively
little on exploration of space. I think we could fall behind China
and Russia in this respect.
