Title: Hello. Mylo here!
Post by: Mylo on August 18, 2012, 09:17:12 pm
Hi everyone!  I'm Mylo, an arctic fox.  I joined Furtopia because I considered it to be a one-of-a-kind community among not only the furry fandom, but among so many other forums and websites I've visited.  I love this place, and now that the staff has appointed me as a watcher, I feel like I can finally contribute back to the well-being and sustainability of Furtopia as a community.  :)

I like to do pretty much anything art-related.  Perhaps I'll add more to this thread later.  For now, if you all want to ask me anything about (most) anything, feel free to do so!

Hey there Mylo, Congratulations on your new watcher position. :D

Just be careful not to watch too hard, otherwise you could pull an all important watching muscle. :o

Thanks Storm Fox! I've been doing the usual stretches on the watching muscles...so unless I get really dehydrated, I don't think I'll be pulling any of the multitude of watching muscles for now.

Wait...
Storm Fox warns about pulling watching muscles.
Storm Fox is not a watcher anymore.

I second Storm Fox's advice. Back when I was a watcher, I once watched for too long at a stretch and was struck down by a freak watching accident that left me unable to watch for several days. Now I just use my cell phone to tell time.

How awful! Now I'll be really sure to not over-watch; the permanence of your injury is most foretelling of what injuries watchers can sustain.  :o

@Mylo: Just a bit of "advice", but I suggest we take this to the RP forum per this:
Quote
5. Role-Playing  Minor Role-playing in discussion threads is permitted provided it does not disrupt or distract from the original topic being discussed.  Large RPs may be moved to a more suitable area (Role-playing Games Forum) if needed at the Staff's discretion. (EXCEPTION: This rule does not apply to the Furry Role-Playing Game Forum located here: http://forums.furtopia.org/index.php?board=32.0 )

After all, this is supposed to be your "Meet the Staff" thread to discuss YOU.

Very interesting Mylo.. I am a bit surpised they would build a tall
structure like the Sky Tree in such a earthquake prone area.. But I am
sure the designers have built many safeguards into it.

Perhaps you can get a view shot from the top of it. :orbunny:

It's pretty interesting.  There was a grid of capsules on the wall, about 7 long-ways by 2 high.  There is a privacy shade as you see in the picture.  You get a locker just outside the capsule to put your stuff in, and you leave your big bags downstairs in the business lounge.  It was great for the price (only around $40).  You do get to hear everyone's alarms in the morning, but for me I don't mind that at all.  Oh, and the showers are public. :D
That sounds pretty fun XD
(In theory, I hate public showers and am claustrophobic, but I wish I wasn't so I could give that a try some time)

Ok on the clouds and the Sky Tree.   When you have a place that high
the weather is going to affect tourist views.

Just courious, have you had a chance to ride one of the Bullet trains?  I
imagine it would be something to see, and or ride. :orbunny:

Yes the open spaces here in the U.S. does make technology more expensive
and time consuming to implement. Also Japan after the war had to rebuild. This
gave them the option to build a more modern infrastructure  Same thing with
China and other modernizing countries now days.

Ok on taking the train next month.. I look forward to hearing
about it. :orbunny:

My that Kyoto station looks huge even in a picture.

I have often wondered if modern Japan is much lilke one large
suburbia outside the cities. Not one continuous village, but where
one can see man made structures virtually everywhere.
The pictures show some nice country scenes though.

I can remember 50 years ago in the area where I live one could
travel miles and not see a house or building. Now traveling along
those same roads it's hard to find a spot where you can't see a
house or barn.

Title: Re: Mylo --- Today's Topic: Mylo
Post by: Old Rabbit on July 21, 2013, 11:25:35 am
I am glad to hear they do still have land that is free of
structures..

It will be interesting to see what you have to say about the small
villages.

Some years ago I read that in the very small villages, people may
serve themselves in small shops and leave the money. Even though
the owner might be out.

I understand it's part of the family honor they hold close.  Theft or any
dishoner would bring shame to the family.

The Japanese countryside free from suburbia still exists.  :)  It's just not too apparent when it's dwarfed by the fame of Tokyo and all the great cities in Japan.  In fact, next weekend, I will be going to the country to a very very small village to do some work.  I'll have to let you know how that goes later.

In a culture where respect for each other is held high. Fear of others would be much less or virtually non existent.

A century ago one would find many places here in the U.S where you
could trust almost everyone. Though it was more prevelent in the
rural areas even then.

In some small comunities here in the U.S. there is some reminant of respect
where some people feel comfortable leaving their homes and property unlocked or unguarded. But even there it is quickly disappearing.

When disaster strikes we find the true nature of americans. We
stand up and help each other in great numbers. Of course the
media with it's desire or need of ratings always points out the bad
side of humanity. We need the media, but hearing about terrible
events can create distrust, distress, and fear over time.

I wonder how the media paints events in Japan. Of course their
culture would affect it.

On a lighter side. How was the bullet train ride? :orbunny:

Yes. That belief in image ties in well with respect or loss of it.. I understand
the Samari committed suicide rather than living in dishonor.

I don't know how the average Japanese deals with dishonor. But I am sure
it's still hard to live with.

Even here image is important to many people. A buisness will usually
do a lot better if it has a good image.

Of course some people here don't care at all.

Several years ago I saw a documentary on tv showing how
Japanese children are taught in schools. It appeared to
be very competitive. This continued into college. There
they toss a young man into a tough buisness learning curve
where he either makes the grade or fails in disgrace.

It's been sometime so I don't know if they still teach their
people this way or not.  I have seen some physical game shows
on tv where the average young person will do almost anything
to win. Not to hurt one another but they didn't seem to worry
about hurting themselves while trying to win. Of course you never
know how real programs like this are.

Not knowing any Japanese personally, I can only go on what I
have seen and read. They appear to be very industrious and
hard working.

I often wonder how it would have affected this country or theirs
if we had accepted them as the 49th state when they applied back
in the 1950's.  Of course there wasn't any way we would have accepted
them with the terrible memories of WWII so fresh in our minds.

It's hard to believe that the year is 2014.  I still think about it sometimes and realize just how far we are in the timeline.  Or at least, it seems like that, thanks to the power of Hollywood movies and bestselling sci-fi novels.

I have this feeling of progression that I haven't felt in a while.  That's really all I have to say.
Title: Re: Mylo --- Marching Ever Onwards

if it's the progression of our technology that you are talking about, i feel the same way... in the past 15 years we went from these big chunky laptops to these small phones that can do more. and in biology it went from almost no interest to the highest demand, well besides making money....  sad to see that lots of our technology is just used for getting rich....

funny thing is how accurate those movies are. like in gattaca all the gene mods, we most likely will have that in the next decade. and for space we might start building a moon base in the next 4 decades.

Second a watcher
Third a mod...

Sometimes I wonder how apparent it is every decision we make, and how it affects so many other things.  Today, one small choice that I made changed the entire day in a way I didn't even consider was going to be possible.  Of course it sounds overblown, but it's just times like these where I realize how almost random these choices can be that grow into these awesome and completely unrelated and unexpected things that you didn't see coming.  Or perhaps very negative things that you didn't see coming...who knows?

I think you will find that as you grow older with greater responsibility your
decisions will be more life changing.

When young we do many things, though we feel they are important at the
time they usually don't affect our lives all that much.

And that's the thing...this random choice ended in an unrelated and unexpected outcome.  But, it really has no effect on the rest of my life, or even the next few days of my life.  It's just more an admiration of the phenomenon.

Some of the smallest decisions can change your life completely.

I've always been fascinated by the huge and baffling odds of the coincidences in everything. Like if I hadn't watched 2 seconds of video mentioning Furtopia, then I most likely would have never met you all, and may have been a completely different person in many ways. The complexity of even the smallest of things is still, and always will be beyond comprehension, but that doesn't stop it being amazing, and strangely beautiful! :)

some say just by knoking a stone from a long way a way can move a boulder....or something like that :-[

but tiny things make a big impact

Despite all the bad things that happeen I'm glad that I've found Gray, Furtopia and the Furry community. ^^ So many small things help decide the outcome and I found Furtopia though a video on youtube. Chance is involved in many things and there is infinite variables that play in the world everyday that have an affect on your life as well as others.

Sometimes, real life gets in the way and takes people out of the loop for a little while. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm sure Mylo will be back with us soon.
