Perhaps, A LiveJournal Button?
« on: November 08, 2005, 11:30:08 pm »
This is just a little thing that I've noticed, and this might even be too minor to mention. It seems that quite a few people have LiveJournals nowadays, and that there might be a little button down near the 'Messaging & Profile' buttons specifically for LiveJournals, rather than putting it in your signature.

Just a thought! ''

Well, I personally think that my LJ is something special, and I want people to be able to read it if they wanted to.  So yes, an LJ button would be nice.

Except, we can't just lmit it to LJ, so make it a "Blog" button instead.  I guess you could put it with the other buttons at the bottom, but I think it would go nive a bit bigger and on the right side with your post count and stuff.

Trying to sell my LJ in my sig takes up space where I could put other funny random stuff anyway.  I second the suggestion.

Homepage is ok for LJs I guess, but what if you've got a site already on it?
Besides, if your LJ is on a "homepage" button, how are you going to know if it goes to a site or someone's LJ?

A "Blog" button would be a good idea.

Now, that's another good point:  I hardly notice those buttons on the bottom, just adding another one down there seems a bit poinles, even if it is for such a good cause.  That's why I think it should be a bigger button on the left side.

Oh, and...

It's a good idea but I see one slight problem with this idea- if we were to give an LJ button, then the Furjournal furs, the Dev Art furs, the Sheezy Art furs, and those who belong to any other groups will want one...

Way too many buttons to add for something that not all members will use IMHO.

While the button may be nice it won't do anything that a link in your sig won't already do- plus, as mentioned in this thread, a lot of furs haven't noticed the buttons that are on the page now where as sigs get paid more attention to.

LJ's too specific an entity to use, seeing as there are many, many blogging options available out there. Fortunately, there's just a handful of major IMs available.
I'd suggest linking to your blog through the homepage setting. Many furs do. The other option would be to link to it from your sig or from your existing home page.

I've considered this particular idea every so often, but never really felt it needed much attention, since there're a lot of viable options.

But Realy it only needs the generic term

BLOG

to work. There is no need for a seciffic LJ, FJ, Blogger, whatever.
