I just had a brainstorm late last night.

'> I'm not sure how well this idea would work due to server issues and storage space, so if it doesn't, maybe this idea can be kept on the back burner so to speak for future reference. Anyway, here's what I thought: What if Furtopia had it's very own Fursuit/Furry Convention Gallery similiar to what Timduru does on his site which is located here:

When furs get back from going to cons and share their fursuit and con pics, those pics tend to be spread out between different sites and hosts and are "de-centralised" so to speak. In other words, you're viewing pics all over the place such as:
* A person's own personal web site.
* Timduru's website as mentioned above.
* The Convention Forum located here at Furtopia.
* The Fursuit Forum located here at Furtopia.
* The Photography Forum located here at Furtopia.
* Etc., etc., etc.

What we need is ONE centralised place/gallery of Furtopia's own where Furtopian members can place and share their fursuit/convention photos. The gallery would probably start out simple and be laid out similarly in the following way:

For example, if you click on Timduru's link above that I provided, you'll then come to a selection of different galleries covering cons, stuff in the news, videos, and so forth. What we only need to concentrate on/look at is the fursuit/con gallery at the far left. By clicking on that, you'll then come to a larger area that shows 28 galleries for different cons. By clicking on a different con gallery such as Anthrocon for example, you're then presented with sub-galleries for each year of AC ('99, 2000, 2001, etc.). This is the layout/setup that I think we could incorporate as it seems from my POV to be very organised and centralised.

Perhaps as time and resources permitted in the future, we could expand the gallery to include furmeets, fursuit bowling events, fursuit/con videos, etc. But for now, I think just sharing fursuit/con pics from AC, FC, FWA, etc. is fine enough to get the gallery started if this idea works.

Comments? Questions? Thoughts? Hints? Tips? Suggestions?

This is a wonderful idea, Kobuk! There's sure enough furs here to compile a decent gallery. As a matter of fact, it is a GREAT idea!

Plus, it would generate more traffic for the site!

Well, it *is* a fantastic idea.

It would be very nice to have a place to put all the photos we take at conventions, especially if it's quick and easy to download the stuff. I still haven't committed the time to figure out Timduru's FTP system, though I know it isn't hard.... ':p'

There is one problem that I forsee, though, and it doesn't have anything to do with the website's organization or utility.

It's simply that of traffic. The thing about Timduru's site is that everyone knows it's the go-to place to find great fursuit photos. It would take a lot of time for furries to notice and frequent an archive of that sort. But for us 'veterans', it would be a tremendous resource to have.

Would you be willing to put the time and energy into making the system happen? It might take some time, but after a while your system might end up being the 'next big' furry archive. It'd be great, and I have every confidence in your ability to make it happen!

I don't know. I'm not exactly comp literate and I don't know anything about creating or managing a website, etc. Frankly, I'm not sure what would all be needed to start an endeavor like this?

I found a gallery that will intergrate into the exising forums, don't know how well it works though.

I've been very busy on the aditional new server (notice the forums speed?). With a little coding I believe I can set something up nice. Furtopia's built in gallery indexer would work well for this. Give each fursuiter their own directory and FTP access. We then slap on a pretty custom header/footer and we good to go.

Most of the time I'm swamped with repairs and bug fixes. So I can't really admin this project. However if someone "reliable" wants to step forward I'll get started with the coding for this.

At this point I think we need two people. 1) Someone who knows fursuits who can long term run this (create and give out accounts under this gallery). The same or someone else may want to do some work on page design.

Like I said I can't do this by myself as I'm too swamped with work. But if someone thinks it worth their time I'll start the coding for this project.
