Furtopia Radio Discussion
« on: October 26, 2007, 09:17:56 am »
Furtopia Radio's DJs have a special forum to discuss radio and DJ stuff amongst ourselves but I think we need a place to discuss Furtopia Radio with other Furtopians.

Currently there is the Radio Announcement thread that is stickied in the General Non-Furry section.  I used it yesterday as a test. Only 4 people viewed the thread after I posted. I have to believe interest in the Radio is greater than 4 people.

I am open for suggestions.  Here are some I have considered:

1) Have DJs post Radio related threads individually in the General Non-Furry section

2) Combine with the Singers Groove section and post our threads there

3) Ask for a seperate section solely to discuss Furtopia Radio.

Anyone else have suggestions?  Mods/Staff?

I like the idea of combining with singers groove as it is a thread that is not used as much and it would be very obvious when someone had made a post in the dj section

and i had another suggestion and this is out of my head... make a sticky thread in the general furry thread which seems to be a very visted thread... and allow dj's to post time and announcements in there... as the radio does really relate to furry as we are a furry radio station and thats just somethingi had come up with
Cutting like a red hot knife of surgical steel
Brought fresh from the autoclave
She came, she came with sterile warnings screaming from her blade
Singing, "I wanna make you bleed"

I think people are accustomed to stickied threads always being things that have already been read and skip past them to the little bar that seperates them from the other threads.
   Now,
       let's go play, together...
Together under the
             clearest of blue skies.

I agree Lobar, that is why I believe if we want Furtopia Radio to be successful it needs a place where:

DJs can talk about their shows

Djs can interact with forum members

Members can tell DJs what they would like to see

Members can see that we actually have a radio without tripping across it accidentally

We can all discuss the future of Furtopia Radio

Out of the three suggestions you mentioned, Las, I like No.2 the best as it would get more members to view the Singer's Groove forum. I'll pass along your suggestions/topic here to the rest of the staff for review. '<img'>

One thing I think be useful is having a schedule that can be read to find out when the shows are in a sticked thread or something.

I know people can see the on-air sign and IRC but if they knew before hand when they were they could tune in at that time without having to come on here or IRC and check.

Certainly for me I generally have no idea when the shows are and being in a completely different timezone that makes it abit harder. If I could see a schedule in EST I could then at least work it out in my timezone and not have to guess all the time and miss them '<img'>  (I know I'm on IRC but I'm not always paying attention to it  '<img'> )
Equally this applies to others I imagine though.

Speaking of the schedule: The only suggestion I could make would be to have the schedule shift the DJ times according to what time zone the listener is in.  Example: I'm in Central Time (this information is stored in my user profile and can be requested from my browser, I think), so the computer should bump up all the shows one space.

I do not have l33t coding skills.  If someone can code a schedule to change times based on browser/computer profiles, I am all for it...

but it needs to be made in a way that I can easily update the schedule myself.  I don't want a lag in schedule changes because it has to go through numerous people before it hits the web.

If you look at the schedule page it does state how to figure out the exact time in anyone's time zone.   Since we are in the eastern time zone, that is what the times are for.  Central, subtract 1 hour from the EST.

Mountain time:  - 2 hours
Pacific time: - 3 hours

etc.

This should be quite simple to figure out when looking at teh schedule times.

Quote
EST     Time shown.
CST     -1 hour:   If the show starts at 5:00pm this would be aired at 4:00 pm CST time.
MST     -2 hours:  If the show starts at 5:00pm this would be aired at 3:00 pm MST time.
PST     -3 hours:  If the show starts at 5:00pm this would be aired at 2:00 pm PST time.
UK    +5 hours:  If the show starts at 5:00pm this would be aired at 10:00pm UK time.

Hopefully this helps and perhaps we should put the time zone info at the top of the page instead of at the bottom, Las?
