Shim had this planned all along. ;)

To get somewhat back on topic, I do hope we'll be able to perfect the battery. We run off electricity..I mean literally - all the neurons sending electric impulses. Wouldn't it be awesome to have some sort of vehicle that runs off our own mind power? :o

It would be the cleanest vehicle of them all! ....Unless you were a pervert.

I'm still a believer in the following: ;)

Actualy, through some engineering, water isn't all that out of the question. NaCl conducts electricity and there is plenty of sodium chloride in our oceans. You could get a charge with positive and negative ions. Now if we were able to also create a feasable ignition system...perhaps we could make use of salt-water and indeed power a car. The car would have to be lightweight to get the most out of it. Kevlar and carbon fibre isn't exactly cheap..neither is aluminium. Eh..any type of metal would be bad if you're gonna be exposed to so much salt. :D

I think you're on to something there. You know, acid would work even better than salt because it produces more ions when dissolved in water. Just dip some metal electrodes in and you've got electricity! Oh wait, someone's already thought of that. It's called a "battery". Have you heard of it? :P

I knoooooow, but the thought of having a use for salt water amuses me. Not like you can drink the stuff, may as well do something constructive with it :D

Besides, Kobuk is the one who mentioned water..dun look at me like that. D8

Speaking of salt water, the lagoon we have on campus is ridiculously salty - the dirt path next to it is so imbued with salt that the salt crystals ended up acting like cement and forming a super-strong surface XD
Surprisingly it still has a lot of life (and is /very/ green) - (They pump in fresh sea water, and pump out some of the lagoon water to prevent it from getting too stagnant.)

But I don't think that a salt water powered car would be all that efficient.

Back to steam power? You should really go look up how a modern power plant works! :D

I wasn't serious ya know. :P I still say cars powered by brain activity. We can even have an Intelish decal that reads "Neurons Inside!"

But not every modern power plant uses steam! ;) (Hydroelectric uses water in its liquid form to drive the generators!)

Nuclear powered cars! "Neutrons inside!"  :D

Unfortunately, the world is currently suffering from a neuron shortage that's even more severe that the oil shortage!

Nuclear powered cars! "Neutrons inside!"  :D
Considering that most people can't even be bothered to check their oil, I think there may be some problems here... :D

I just remembered this stupid funny picture I found on 4chan awhile back that is somewhat relevant. It was trollface in a crudely drawn car (this is 4chan we're talking about..everything is crude there. :P) with magnets attached. Basically there is a magnet fitted in the front of the car that is negative and you use this metal crane/fishing rod thing (crudely drawn images are crudely drawn) with another magnet attached that is positive. You can see where this is going..xD So you position the positive magnet in front of the negative and the car pulls itself forward.

Obviously that wouldn't work because the positive magnet would also pull back towards the car at the same strength and you go nowhere (sounds like a funny pic though). Now attach an electro magnet to your front bumper so it tries to pull towards the car in front of you that you can shut off for slowing down and turning and you may have something there. :D

You'd still have pollution in the form of ungulate droppings.

The short answer:
NO
I ate a bag of grapes and now I own the world.
