Title: Twilight as an alicorn?
Post by: Plantan on June 17, 2013, 01:24:13 pm
Sorry if anyone hasn't seen the season finale but I have to wonder about peoples thoughts on Twilight becoming an alicorn... I personally don't like it...

I kinda like it, I wasn't expecting that, however I don't think they should have had her fly so quickly. I think they should play off her learning how to fly. (I'm newer to the MLP fandom just FYI.) ;) :D

I trust the team to make the best of it. I mean, it was something that Hasbro mandated, not really something that the team behind the show wanted. As long as her character doesn't change with it, I'm fine. I think at this point, I'm more invested in the characters themselves, so their physical form doesn't really matter as much. (I kinda hit this realization when seeing EQG yesterday... the humanized forms didn't bother me much, because their personalities were all still there).

The biggest issue I take with it is that it upsets the balance of the Mane 6. Rarity is now the only unicorn, and suddenly three of them can fly. I liked the 2:2:2 setup because it just made things an even distribution.

My feelings on the subject? Well this may be a bit long. On the 2/2/2 dynamic being broken I have this to offer... now we have a 3/3 dynamic, three fliers and three ground ponies.
-------------------------------------------------

It has officially been said that twilight will not leave her friends or outlive them, which I feel should be stated first since these are peoples biggest worries.

Lauren Faust had always intended for Twilight to be Celestia's heir (though she later clarification not a princess, which I question because what is the heir to royalty but a royal-to-be?).

Twilight has not become some goddess among ponies, nor is there any reason to believe she will be anymore powerful then she already is.

Hasbro gave the writers a difficult task, to make Twilight an alicorn in a single episode... based on what I have seen M.A. Larson did a good job of making it work as best as possible.

Yes there is a problem of pacing, yes they could have explained it better, yes they could have hinted of her change in other episodes better.

Not everything Hasbro has done is good, not every episode is as good as others. The very idea of Discord being reformed is laughable to me and makes as much sense as the Joker being reformed. Which is why I believe Discord is only bidding his time, waiting to see what will happen, having manipulated the Mane Six in allowing him freedom on 'good behavior'.

Would I prefer Twilight to be a unicorn? Yes but I have come to terms with this change and have even considered the many possible episodes they can make.

Characters change, this is a fact a life, at least if your willing to allow change and development to happen. Only a fool would try to keep things the same, as it is through change that new ideas and stories can be made.

That makes perfect sense and I just hope that keeps the same personality... Which I don't see happening...

Well Tara Strong has assure she wont be playing Twilight any differently, Tara will keep her personality the same, the only real difference is that she will have wings and have new things to learn and new responsibilities. Also in the book Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell it shows that Twilight will decide to stay in Ponyville as well as rely on her friends to help with the change she has experience. You also learn that Cadance had been a pegasus.

I will trust for now that the writers will make it work, and I hope I am not proven wrong.

Note: Crystal Heart Spell is not official canon. Also, I like Twilicorn. I wanted it for a long time.
