Title: Microsoft rolls out Windows 11.
Post by: Kobuk on October 06, 2021, 12:51:21 pm
Windows 11 is being rolled out by Microsoft. But.........not everybody may be able to upgrade to it. A lot of older desktop and laptop computers may not be able to get the upgrade. If you can't, then you're stuck with Windows 10........until such time as support for that stops whenever in the future (Supposedly in 2025 from what I heard.).
If your old comp can't upgrade for whatever reason to Win11, you may be forced to buy a whole new comp.

But I only just upgraded to Windows 10 x.x
So sick of having to learn new stuff, pay for new stuff etc.

Yeah I heard that Windows 11 deliberately has stricter requirements for hardware.
Got to make things obsolete you know.

Been on a Mac for years now. Decided to watch a vid about the changes between Windows 10 and 11. I'd be totally lost. But I will say 11 looks more like a Mac. Just wondering if Windows has ever fixed their deframenting problem with program placement on the hard drive. One of the biggest reasons Macs are more stable.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as cause. I've been using Mac since 2016. After Windows 7, I felt like it became an OS that was catered to the millennial "app and bright colors are the future", and even as a 20 something year old myself, I find this approach to be off-putting.

It's unfortunate that as Microsoft continues to revise their operating systems, their user interfaces become less and less navigable. The forced adoption of TPM is also not something I'm fond of - even though I haven't wanted to use Microsoft software in years, if I were to, none of my machines would be able to run it despite being relatively modern (and far in excess of their base specs, in some cases).

Some sort of Unix is honestly the better choice - Macs are tolerable, as is Linux, but a BSD if you can is probably the best choice, in my opinion.
