Furry allows me to just let loose and get away from the stresses of life and the pressures of having to act a certain way in society. I use it as a way to be creative and as a fun thing to escape to where I can have a life only bound by my imagination. Aside from that and on a spiritual level, furry to me just feels right. That's hard to explain but I'm sure others know what I mean.

Furry to me symbolizes, artistic freedom. I view furry in my opinion as a hobby.

I really enjoy the sense of artistic freedom furry displays. The Art, Music, Costumes, Writing, Poetry, plays, and gathering of events are all displays of artistic genious! Anythang that displays this level of artistic muse is Exciting, Thought Provoking, and Wonderful in my opinion.

Art has the ability to heal the soul, inspire the imagination, and move societies. And I feel any progress made in this field if good.  :)

For me, everyone's fursona was a person discovering their inner animal, to me each person has one and it is only a matter of looking inward to find it. When I dug into my mind during meditation I found out that the name Traitos was not thought of and used as simply as I had once thought (use to think it just sounded cool), but instead it was actually his name, and later I started feeling an insparation to create a laguage for him and his name was actually in it without me thinking about it and it actually translated to Wolf. To me that was the confermation.

So in all, to me it is not only a spiritual representation of some inner animal, they are alive.

Again this is just what I think.

I love it when people revive these old threads
My Fursona is what I wish to be, given the chance i would TF to him in an instant, and once that was done i would keep my actual name and that would be that, I would just be an anthro person.  I don't really feel some sort of connection to Otters in general, although i have never come in contact with one, just youtube and pictures.
FYI I'm on Steam, wanna talk? msg me at Emerald Blade

It's an escape for me, one that allows me to express myself without having to worry about the social preconceptions that bog down "normal" society. (though it does kinda spill a little bit into the RL. Still, the looks I get when that happens are amusing.  (: )

Also, furs haz smexys.  ;)

Being a furry to me means abandoning being a human. I don't hate humanity, i just don't appreciate human nature. Humans are cruel, selfish, barbaric, and violent. They make unnecessary war, killing other humans. They build on animals habitats, even though they are animals as well. They are selfish, because they hold conditional love. I would rather be an animal than consider myself to be a human. So, ever since I've discovered the furry culture, I've known that this is my home. This is who and what I am. I am Kori Ivony Vixen. I've been able to find out a whole lot about my self just from having a fursona. I found out just who I am by examinging the traits of different animals.  I went from wolfcat to pygmy goat in about 6 years, and I've never felt so connected to a fursona since Gigi came to me.

It's also a way to connect to the animal side of humanity since we are all animals too. I don't hate humanity since sometimes animals can cause destruction too. There's sometimes overkill and "war" in the animal world too when you think about it. The only thing I really don't like about humans is how egocentric many are. They don't accept others who are different, and while there is still some of that in the furry world (I see a lot of it between furries with natural colored characters and furries with unnaturally colored characters), there's always a place in the fandom for everyone.

Then I guess furry also has some amazing art and costuming. Quadsuits for one--wow, I love seeing a well made quadsuit.
My English isn't the best anymore. Sorry for any mistakes.

At first, I just thought furries were cool, it didn't go much farther than that. I didn't really consider myself in the fandom until I realized how connected I am to animals, so I made a fursona and began making art. I also like to see it as a way to stand out from the endless sea of social norms.

Even though I've only recently come across fursuiting, to me it means being able to be free from the restrictions and burdens that life brings.
It allows me to escape and to just breathe without society demanding that you fit into a "type" or act a certain way.
Fursuiting offers creativity and pushes imagination, something I think people lose very quickly as it's often seen as infantile.
Fursuiting to me symbolises that which can never really be attained, something that wildlife has and people have long lost, and that's true freedom.
People often assume that money buys freedom, it may take you on holiday where you feel free but buys only material happiness.
I think even though to me it's a hobby, there are aspects that are more than a hobby, for example alot of my fursuits are canids particularly wolves.
It's my way of honouring not only wolves as they are truly beautiful animals but it also honours my ancestry as wolves play vital parts in the myths and legends I was brought up with.
And for that short while in a fursuit I feel free and unburdened :).
It is not wolves that are devils but man, for it is he who has condemned the wolf and created demons where there were none.
Now because of mans prejudice, the sons of Loki shall never know peace, and their howls will forever echo their sadness.

Well, deep down inside I know there's an animal within, there has always been, and there will always be! becoming a furry allowed me to finnaly uncage the animal that lurks within....
That, and I feel more...artistically freed, my music has become more meaningfull and less "rawrawrawrdethdethdetgangerangeranger" I've been putting more time into my story and fanfic, and Im trying to draw again!
I just feel more free in general, free to be myself :)

I always knew i was different but could never put my finger on it. Until I accidentally stumbled into the fandom and was hooked instantly! I feel I belong more here than anywhere else and it has opened my eyes to a wide variety of things. Thanks to Mr.Apple Im now reading some furry comics which far surpass anything the current pop culture.  :D

For me "comfort"/"art", I put this comfort to good use everyday I can, makes me feel more alive and prosperous and break loose from confinement as in reality I'm trapped in a boring depressing life where I feel treated like a child, this and I have no hope, so this comfort is the only escape I came across that reaches the apex.
It's a stress controller and to be able to look at my self in the mirror again without feeling ugly. I hate humanity, and seeing my self as a different species helps me not to hate myself so much.

being a furry to me means you have accepted your spirit animal. and respect them by trying to understand the animal it represents. i also wanted to get closer with animals and realize that we humans are anmials nothing has changed i also believe that animals in the wild are more sophisticated the we humans can ever be.

It is everything humanity cannot be. It is free. It is wild. To be a furry would to let your humanity go, and to bond with the rest of the world. I enjoy the positive emotions and actions by the people on this site and would like to say, that if what I have seen on this site is what it means to be a furry, then i am glad to be one.

Well the best of both worlds applies here.
Take the best of human... or whatever you like about human,
and add the best of whatever animals you like!

On top of that apply all the iconic meanings drawn from culture for the particular critter in question,
then sprinkle in personal meanings.

bake thouraly for 30 minutes on a low heat and vwala.
Something, cute, fluffy and atractive. Or strong, hardy and rugged. Or durable, patiant and endearing. Or wise, thoughtful and insighful. Or...

They are great! think of any kind of archetype you like and there is probably an animal closely associated with it.
They make steriotyping easy! ^.^ which is a cornerstone of character developement and easy audiance appeal :P
I’ve made my statement and I stand by it, but I could be wrong.

I just think they look cool, cute and hot. It's a fun and interesting hobby, allowing me to be creative with my fursona and whatnot. It also allows me to be very affectionate and cuddly/huggy with other furs, which is something I believe I may have gotten from my cat, Snowball.

For me, being furry means being free of spirit.  It means being closer to the true me.  It means giving my self permision to my imagination as a child does before they learn that imagination is to be controled and subdued.  It means taking back out those childish things which we put away as we became adults.  I dont know that I am expressing this as I truely want to but at least Im having fun again which I haven't truely done in about 30 years.

It doesn't really symbolise anything for me exactly... It's more of a label for what I already am.
I just happen to be a strange individual who wanders about in a raccoon onesie, makes squeaky noises, eats like a rat and prefers animals to humans  x_x
I do love anthro art though, I find the whole style of it (aaaaaall the styles!) very appealing.
I decided to get into the fandom itself so I could chat to people as strange as I am  :)
