A dog which escaped from a poodle parlour, while it was being artistically shaven?

*goes into crazed conspiracist mindset*
Why it must be the goverments attempts to resurect species that have recently gone extinct to make people think they're crazy, prepping them for the alien overlords ':p'
*goes back to normal fur*
that deffinatley is interesting, could just be severe mange but the prospect of new "mystery species" is awesome. '<img'>

Could very well be a severe case of mange on a once obscenely hairy mutt.

First time I saw it, I thought I was seeing things, "That can't be a tasmanian wolf...".    ''

Interesting story, but the pics are so grainy you can't make out any of the important details. All I could tell was that it does appear to have mange, tho the fact that it's not eating the cats in the nieghborhood makes me suspect that it's someones mutt. Any wild predator - coyote, large fox, etc- that has grown up with out human influence is going to munch on the local kitties. Especially a coyote or wild coyote cross breed.

Naw, it's not a chupacabra. That name means "Goat Sucker" and I don't think this thing is built to suck goats ( '' wrong image ':p' )

It seems to be built like a hyena, or as someone suggested, shaved like one.

I think it's fascinating, the neck intrigues me and leans to qualities most akin to a Hyena.  It might be just someone's canine or who knows?  Not disregarding anything it might be some new offshot genus of goodness knows what, this wouldn't be the first time that a new species of something has been spotted near a town.  Though oftentimes such sightings are of grazing animals rather than carnivores, at least as my memory serves.  Yet one never knows, nonetheless, 'tis intriguing.

Alerius very likely has a point, the next news report might be about a town of folks highly confused by the reappearance of the Dodo.  Now that's something I'd like to see.  ^.^

"Wot's that?", "Some kind of... gigantic bird.", "It's an OSTRICH.  Gone wrong..."
"We could not hurt you any more than we could squish the helpless pootworm. We are one with the pootworm. We are one with you. Of course you realize, this means youareone with the pootworm. REJOICE! To be one with the pootworm is to be ALIVE! And why not be alive? Is that not what living is for?"

Could just be some sort of weird looking dog. It looks like a hyena to me, though.

A jackal with small ears?

But a strange hyena sounds good, spots, mange, head form...

Looks kinda the same.

Mystery solved???

They caught a baby in a humane trap.  It has mange, bad.  They are treating it and will release it when it is healthy.

It is a red fox.

Sad to say but an animal that badly infected with mange is more often put to sleep. But it would depend on what type of mange it was. Hopefully they can keep it from spreading further, such a bad outbreak could cause many deaths this winter in the foxes.
