Seems like good news to me, WhiteShepherd!

Self-hosted furry web sites seems to be a dying breed these days. I think it'd be nice to see what furs can produce for their own home pages again. Either I've fallen out of the curve on what's current, or web site design has gone down the tubes these past several years.

Welcome back, furtopia.org hosting! :)

*with beard, gray hair, spectacles, and cane*

Yep, I remember all those back in my days. You young pups have it too good right now. *waves cane at young furs*

Now you got Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, We Chat, TikTok, and all these other new fangled social sites.

Probably 25-50 years from now, we'll switch to VR (virtual reality) like they have in that movie Ready Player One.

Then maybe 100-200 years from now, maybe genetic engineering will be advanced enough to give people ears, tails, and such. Then we won't need VR and social apps to "pretend" we're furry, because we ALREADY are.

Oh goodness, I remember using angelfire in high school "computer class"  :-[ :-[

Invite them in and make them beg for more!

Actually, I had a chat with my niece, and she was amazed at the idea of setting up her own website.  Sure, you can "customize" Tumbler, or Twitter, or whatever, but they couldn't hold a candle to the flexibility that actually building your own website on Angelfire afforded.  And Livejournal beat Twitter all to pieces on simple post length.

I used to have an LJ account long, long ago to keep up with fursuit related content, but then deleted it. I don't think anybody uses LJ anymore for furry business. Everybody has pretty much moved to Twitter, Facebook and other more "modern" social media sites.

I occasionally use my Livejournal.  Some of my twitter posts link to it, with the hashtag #TooLongForTwitter

Update... Well was hoping to have something sooner than this. But we hit a few road bumps we are working through. First Kada-Ru has been sick for months. Doctors are not sure what is wrong yet. But she has been ill and unable to get on the computer. I've been coding the services and she was migrating/updating the HTML. I'm trying to do both ATM. But we are looking for a HTML volunteer who would like to help out.

Email is now working. Check your spam folder as sometimes  mail programs label as spam. That was a saga that took about a month to finally sort. First we were using our ISP's mail server. But they kept blocking us for sending to many e-mails and wanted us to run our own server. So we set up our own mail server only to find out support did not know how to set a reverse DNS (needed for mail). Almost a month and they found the correct department and set reverse DNS. Only to find out the static IPs they gave us was on a Spamhaus PBL "they" created so we couldn't send any mail. 10 days later and they assign us a new netblock that is not on a blacklist. SO mail seems to be working well now (knock on wood). Forum e-mail notifications should be operational. Though let me know of any issues should you have any.  :P

Sorry to hear that Kada has not been feeling well. I hope she gets better soon. It's not Covid related, is it?

I have not recieved/noticed any email notifications from Furtopia.

If I knew HTML better I'd volunteer. My skills are fairly basic, (remember the sites from the early 2000's?) and likely need "updating" themselves to be of any use. I think the last HTML I did was in highschool...  :o

Say hello to Kada for us. I'll be keeping her in my prayers.

There you go. I sent you a email Mister Initial Man via the forums if you want to see if you got it. :)

I am also working on website applications this week (working right now). With little luck will have website applications ready by the end of the week.

I am very curious to know how website applications will work. What information will be needed? What can and can't a person do with a hosted site? Does it have to be furry related like they used to be so very long ago?

You may need to check your spam folder Kobuk. New mail server went online since my last post.

I've checked my Inbox, Sent Box, Junk box, Trash box, and every other kind of email "box" I have and I have recieved ZERO emails from Furtopia. Zero, Zip, Zilch, Nada, Nothing.

I got your test email. But when it comes to getting notifications via email if someone were to PM me, I get nothing.

When I check my Furtopia Profile settings and controls, I noticed the following:

Receive personal messages from:
Notify by email every time you receive a personal message:

But I have the box next to that checked. So I should be getting email notifications. But I'm not.

A few adjustments to the email server. We're running on a new server. So new services are being coded and put into place. :)

WS has been trying to get a hold of you!  Glad to see some old faces here since I too have been gone for so long!  Send WS a message.  No way to get hold of you on your website(s).

It is good to know that Furtopia has a future . Though my vision is failing, I will try to remain a member of
this fine forum. \

I do appreciate all the work you do WS and I am greatful for
your hosting of my webpages over the years.

As of late when I sign onto Furtopia  I get a bad cirtificate
message, so when you have time  please look into it.

All the best Old Rabbit  :orbunny:

Thank you Varg!  Yeah, started having really bad dizziness June 28th this year.  Got so bad I felt like I was a drunk 24/7!  The doc changed my heart medication and now I've leveled out to around a 5 on a scale of 1-10 on the dizziness.  Haven't been able to do much of anything except sleep.  Getting used to the level of dizziness I have now so wanting to get back into doing things again.  We'll see how things go.

Kada-Ru has been sick. But I'm hoping we'll have website applications open in a week or two. Right now the main site redirects tot he forums. Soon it will start showing the new changes.

Poor Kada. Give her a hug for us, and take some time for yourself, too. I know you tend to work like, well, like a dog. :p

WOW!  Benjamin!  I've been so out of date with things as well through the years.  I still have a lot to update on my own website!  It is fun to look at others creativity!
