New song: Dark Rituals
« on: August 25, 2003, 09:50:50 pm »
This is my latest, (actually only second), electronic music piece:  Dark Rituals mp3

The whole song was done using FLStudio 4.  A program I feel that I still just learning. It has a slightly dark sinister sound matched to a groovy beat.

Please check it out, and look at the rest of my site if you have the time.

I agree with Chimera, it's pretty damn good. *Hugs*
"Beyond the darkness is a door to the light,
A door to your soul...

When darkness falls
Allow the light of your heart to guide you

Hope burns brighter than any star
And will shine long after the last star dies"

Firstly, let me ask you this question;

How many songs have you made?

This doesnt sound like a first attempt at all but it doesnt sound like you have had a ton of experiance in the making of these sorts of tunes. It may just be the program your using. Honestly I cant place exactly what it is that makes it un-appealing to the ear. I do know the Guitar sounds should have been replaced with something else...maybe real Guitar sound clips? The sound your using now reminds me of really old sega games.

The beat should be a bit more constant, as in not spaced out so much like it was a slow song. (Although it is.) It just doesnt get the blood pumping like I can tell you wanted it to. That sort of rythem would be used in a waltz.

Over all its not that bad...but it could use afew remakes and some serious additions to make it feel complete and done. (And not like I am listening to old game music '<img'> )

Hope this helped some...good thing about digital or any music is you can always add to it or change it later.

Some of your other songs sound great. But you gotta kill your MIDI board hard and get a Korg or something. '<img'>

Hey, thanks everyone for stopping in and listening.  It's been a while since I made that post so I was quite suprised to suddenly see four replies.

Midnight, your criticisms are well received.  Some of the sound issues were me learning to use the tools that I have.  I'm still learning, but the quality is improving.

The song is definitely lacking a melody.  I took a course on electronic music after I finished that song and some of the things I learned pointed out problems with my personal work.  Having a strong melody is one of them.

Most of my experience in writing music is with collaborating with others.  I may write lyrics and one or two guitar parts, but it usually is a group effort in the band that I'm in.  Many times I write my own part to a song, usually lead guitar, and that's it.

Trying to create something all on my own is a relatively new process and using the computer and soft synths is also new.

I may go back and see what I can do to make the song better with what I know now.  The interest in it certainly has gotten me thinking about it again.

Thanks all,
Drake
