Title: Do fursuits shrink?
Post by: Jade Sinapu on February 14, 2021, 02:02:31 pm
I weigh what I did when I got my suit made.  But it is very tight.
So, do fursuits shrink after washing?? Any way to stretch or make it fit better?
I did not build much muscle,  and again I weigh about the same as when DTD was made.

Fursuits don't shrink.......at least, not that I'm aware of.
If a fursuit is too tight or too loose, it's because the person wearing it gained weight or lost weight..........or the fursuit was improperly made with wrong measurements and such.
There are some faux furs that are 2-way and 4-way stretch. Depending on what you get and from where, they can be expensive.

I then expanded in areas..... that are... unmentionable.
And got taller?
SO maybe both are true.
My fabric was not the 2 or 4 way stretch that I know of.  I certainly did not get NFT 4-way stretch, that stuff was like ultra expensive.
My stuff is mostly off the shelf animal colored realistic looking faux fur with fabric back, and it seems to be soft and stretchable.

So is there a way to size a suit (pull it on a rack and stretch it)
My main complaint is that it is too short for me and thus cuts in the crotch area.  And I doubt anything in that area grew larger...

Maybe it's possible you grew taller?

Long ago when I was researching how to wash a fursuit, people would say not to hang a wet fursuit as that would stretch out the fabric, particuarly in the shoulder areas where the hangar is.

I'm not sure of any other way to safely "stretch" a fursuit.

Hmm...
It is too bad I did not measure the suit in key spots when it was delivered to me.  Then I could refer to that and see if it shrank, was made wrong, or I got taller.
I am not an adolescent and still growing.  But maybe I did get taller.

I do not fully understand the mechanisim whereby fabrics shrink anyway.  Is it the fibers get washed out and the threads collapse in diameter and therefore the fabric shrinks in length?  It is black magic.  Or is it like harsh drying can cause cotton and such organics to lose water and shrink in volume?

But since my suit is like 100% plastic fibers, how they shrink is beyond me.
Darn, maybe it was made tight and only now I am realizing it?
