Hundreds shot in Las Vegs, Nevada.
« on: October 02, 2017, 11:59:52 am »
A  lone gunman apparently using a automatic rifle from
a hi rise hotel shot hundreds at a country music concert.

Death toll at 58 and will likely grow due to
many having life threatening injuries.

I have a link to MSNBC for those looking
for more information.

The shooter had no history of trouble with
law inforcement. His brother said the last time
they talked he sounded normal.

Total injuries and deaths around 515.

I wa up last night when this story just broke the news. Its hard to fathom why anyone would want to do something like this.
It's been said that rats can gain access to your home by climbing up threw your toilet. I prefer to use the front door.

Who can say why anyone would want to harm so many people, but it seems in many
places around the world people are being attacked.  In this case it's not likely political,
but I hope there isn't anyone out there seriously considering copying this terrible act.

The media tells us this is the worst shooting of civilians in our history, but bombs and
and other terrible acts have killed many. 911 killed thousands. Though gun control
may reduce deaths by firearms, but it won't stop it. We need to figure out why people
decide to kill. People who are seriously mentally ill have no business with guns. Guns
can be made so only the owner can fire them. This would stop many accidental
deaths caused by children who don't know how danterous firearms are.

Sensible gun control would be a good thing, but it won't prevent shooting
by people who are determined to use firearms. Lately across the country
people are starting to carry guns, but if someone had pulled out a firearm
to shoot back would likely have been shot by the police with all of the
confusion. Using a gun for defense is okay if you know how and when to
use one. Otherwise it may make the situation worse.

Time will tell, but I doubt if much changes. The NRA will fight any
attempt to change gun laws. Untill this the GOP had planned to allow
people to own silencers for their guns. Supposedly to protect hearing
peoples hearing.  I understand they are reconsidering the idea.

A few things I just can't quite fathom.

1. To carry out an operation like this, the shooter had to have had help. There's no way he could have pulled it off by himself.
2. Why didn't any of the hotel staff suspect or say anything? Cleaning staff usually go into hotel rooms every day to tidy up, make the bed, clean the bathroom, etc. Surely, one of them must to have seen something? The suspect's weapons and ammunition couldn't have been THAT well hidden.  :o
3. Hours or days before the mass shooting, the suspect sent $100k to his ex-wife, who is now reportedly in the Phillipines. I find this to be really odd.  :o
4. I also find it odd that his family, friends, and neighbors didn't notice anything odd or unusual about him before the attack.
5. The suspect had to have been influenced by someone or something to commit this atrocity.

In this day and age we often pay little attention to neighbors unless they gripe
about something you do.

In his hotel room he could have kept the weapons in suitcases. I imagine seeing
a rifle or two laying about wouldn't have been noticed. People tend to mind their
own business. If he was planning that well it's not likely he would have left
anything out to be seen.

It was said on the news that people often carry a lot of luggage into a hotel room.
I am sure people on hunting vacations often carry firearms as well. Also there are
gun shows in Vegas almost every week, so it's likely maids have often seen guns
in the rooms.

Also there are thousands of people going in and out of hotels each day. They don't
have the time to check the activities of each individual.

The lady he was going with was a girl friend,  and it's hard to say if she even liked
guns. I am sure the FBI will look into her connection.

A 64 year old man is likely patience enough to do many things on his own. Hope they
do find out why and if he had help, but it will be almost impossible to prevent people form
doing bad or terrible things. I am actually amazed we haven't seen more things like
this, or even worse. Technoligy provides many ways of killin a lot of people.

The police said this guy planned an escape. I very much doubt this. He would know escape
routes would have been blocked in minutes after he started shooting. The only way out
would have been out the window, and it's possible in the confusion he might have gone
unnoticed sliding down a rope, but I really  doubt it. Instead he escaped the way many
killers have, by dying.
