Title: "One Dot Below The I" Free-form poetry by Glycanthrope
Post by: Glycanthrope on March 15, 2017, 04:19:18 pm

I KNOW IT'S SEPTEMBER AND THE HEATHER IS ABLOOM NOW
AND I KNOW IT'S RAINING FOR I HEAR IT STRIKING THE ROOF ALSO NOW
THE RAIN IS HEAVY THIS MOMENT DO I HAVE THE TIME FOR "NOW"
IF THE HEATHER BLOOMS IN THE RAIN NOONE WILL NOTICE UNTIL
.
.
.
NOW

I REPEAT THE MOMENT YOU BEGIN
YOU'RE ON YOUR WAY HE SAID & FOLLOWING "I REPEAT THE MOMENT YOU
BEGIN YOU'RE ON YOUR WAY" HE SAID "DAMMIT!"
HE SAID I REPEAT THE MOMENT - YOU BEGIN
YOU'RE ON YOUR WAY I REPEAT THE MOMENT YOU BEGIN
YOU'RE ON YOUR WAY OVER THERE
HE'S CRAZY ABOUT IT I REPEAT
THE MOMENT YOU BEGIN YOU'RE ON YOUR WAY

THE (1) REFLECTIVE READER (2) WHOM I DEDICATE (3) DOUBLES OVER AND
DENIES (4) HIS OWN EYES AND THAT'S (5) A WISE DECISION FOR THAT
MAN (6) OVER HERE IS NOT ANY FAMOUS POET (7) WHO DRAGS HIS
COLLECTED VOLUMES IN A CART ( 8 ) & THE REFLECTIVE READER SHAKES HIS
HEAD AND SLUMPS (9) OVER THE POEM HE SAYS "WELL I THOUGHT THIS
WOULD (10) BE BETTER" (11

AND  ONCE AGAIN THE UNUSUAL ITS DISAPPEARING INTO THE QUESTION  AND
AND                   THE STEP UP FROM NOTHING TO UNKNOWN                  AND
AND                        THE ODD DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS                       AND

UP UNTIL NOW EVERYTHING HAS BEEN
AND HE WHO TALKS AND CONTINUES TO
TALK ADDS PERHAPS NOTHING AND DOESN'T
BREAK UP AND DISAPPEAR
NOT EVEN NOW LIKE HE WHO SAYS NOTHING: HE DIES

Okay, I only planned this series to be  three-parter.
But you can't keep a bad poet down, so here's :

I’LL BEGIN THIS POEM A SHORT DISTANCE FROM HERE        POEM
ONLY A MINUTE OR SO BEFORE YOU CAME IN                 POEM
YOU THOUGHT ABOUT IT TOO LONG AND YOU MISSED           POEM
THE FIRST LINES TOO BAD, THAT WAS THE BEST             POEM
AND YOU’RE HALFWAYS AND YOU THINK                     (POEM)
“THAT WAS EASIER THAN I THOUGHT”                      (POEM)
BUT YOU DIDN’T MIND                                     ()
WHEN THE POEM ENDED A WHILE AGO                         ()
AND THE POEM WRITES THE POEM                            (

YOU CAN ALSO BEGIN
                    THAT TOO IS POSSIBLE
OVER HERE AND
                    IT’S AN EASY WAY TO
OCCUPY THE PAGE
                    WRITE INTO THE STRIATED SPACE
THAT COULD BE
                    SMOOTH AND INVITING, SOOO
ACCESSIBLE
                    MUCH LIKE NOW

I like how you play with the physical shape of your poetry. Is the poem on the top right supposed to be a pen?

Thanks, Varg

The pen-shape was a coincidence caused by the formatting here on furtopa, but it does fit in with the idea
of the poem taking command and writing itself
- like a story sometimes takes over and "demands"to be written down.

The poems are also about working with the "striated" and the "smooth" space (- or order vs. freedom)
It's origninally a theory by Deleuze based around political anthropology, and later applied in architecture.

In writing, the striated poem starts at line one and concludes with the last line  (That's the standard way)
while the smooth poem allows you to start and stop as you please, jump around in the lines and form new poem with every read.
It's something I've been working with since an earlier series of poems called "Species Dysphoria"
(which is not here on furtopia, because it's heavily illustrated, and the layout was a /tt female dog /t to work with).

"I repeat the moment" (above) is also a "smooth space" poem, but the original square layout didn't work on Furtopia.

I'm working on a "smooth space" story called "The Hollow Silence," in which I try to break the confinements of a "story" submission.
There are words, illustrations, soundtracks and a replica newspaper, and you can basically jump in from any angle and get
an experience that depends on your point of entry. It's great fun, but time-consuming.

THIS RULE

YOU'RE SITTING HERE

LISTENING ONLY TO YOUR INNER COLLISIONS

YOU'VE GONE

TO THE MOVIES WITHIN YOURSELF MAN! WAKE UP

YOUR LOVE

IS ON HER WAY TO YOU IN SIXTEEN AMBULANCES

WHILE YOU

DANGLE FROM A STRAND LIKE YOUR ALTERNATE I

IS MADE

WATCH OUT! THERE'S NOBODY HERE

AND THE AIR IS TIGHT AS CLINGFILM

AN ILLUMINATED KITCHEN IMPOSES ITSELF WITH ITS CLUTTER

A TOYSTORE LET LOOSE UNDER WATER

BUT THE DISTANCE

TO THE I THAT FILMS EACH WHO AND EVERY WHERE

EQUALS ZERO AFTER ALL

ENTIRELY

THE DAY THE AGING POET DIED

THEY ALL SAID HE CREATED HIS OWN UNIVERSE

A STUDY CONDUCTED BY HIS YOUNGER COLLEAGUES CONCLUDED

THE SEA IN HIS HEART HAD CALMED

THE STAR IN HIS I HAD FADED

THE GALAXIES IN HIS MIND DISSIPATED

AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT

.

THEN HIS LEFT EAR BEGAN SNOWING

FROM EXCEPTIONS
