Title: Beastars on Netflix
Post by: Amducious on October 28, 2019, 03:09:42 am
Anybody else see that it’s soon going to be on Netflix next year? It actually looks really good and the manga is great from what I’ve heard. Netflix Japan already has episodes.  The US won’t be getting any episodes on Netflix till some time next year.  The wait is killing me.

OMG!  :o Why didn't I know about this sooner. Thank You for posting about this! Now this is what an anthropomorphic anime should be like!

Now I'm probably going to have to go find the manga and read it.

You’re welcome! I’m super excited for it. It’s an Anthro Anime done right, and the CGI animation is unique and looks awesome. I’m going to try and read the manga before I watch it. I can’t wait for it to stream next year on Netflix which isn’t too faraway.

well, I just got caught up on the manga too ^_^

will likely buy the DVD sets when available for the anime.

a really fascinating delve into the issues of carnivores and herbivores living together...

A minor warning for some it really delves deep on some topics, and often fairly graphically... I could definitely see some of the things it covers as being difficult for some people to read  ^_^;;

I just finished reading basically all of it online. Once I started reading it I couldn't stop it's pretty addicting and literally sucks you into it. Once merch becomes available in the US I'm defiantly going to yoink some of that.

Honestly I love just how the Manga flows and it's great to watch the Anime then compare it to the Manga. It's almost page for page almost exactly like the Manga. It's cool to see it come to life

I relate the most with Legosi. Yeah I would defiantly say it's a manga not for younger people. It can be a bit disturbing for some.

Didn't wait for it to come to Netflix. Just watched the first 12 eps. Been a fan of Anime for years. But have to say I've never watched a "slice of life" style one before. This work is AMAZING. It reaffirms my general hatred of all things Disney.  Zootopia's message was a good start for the better. But it's ultra clean sticks sweet and shiny bright overall appearance churns my stomach. Beastar is rotten, unfair, dark and gritty. Characters are somewhat unpredictable and sometimes unlikeable. Even morally disgusting. And like any good anime you don't know who's going to live or die. This is the first anime I've seen that makes me want to read the Magna.

I haven't bought any of the manga books yet, but am seriously considering doing so either this week or I'll wait till tax refunds in a few weeks.

For those who have watched any of the anime episodes AND read the manga books, how does the manga differ from the anime, if at all? Or are the manga and the anime both pretty consistant? I'm just wondering how much of a difference there is, if any, between the two.

They tend to keep the accuracy between The Manga and anime very close. They do leave out some things (that I'm not going to mention or spoil). The Anime itself really captures each character as they portray in the manga. Beastars airs worldwide on Netflix March 13. October of this year season 2 is released. The manga is amazing and I recommend reading it. But beware it'll suck you in until you finish it. I got hooked after the first chapter and read through all of them in 2 weeks.

But to answer your question the manga and anime are pretty consistent. I recommend reading the manga first.

This is what I've used to read all the Manga and keep up to date

If you don't mind dealing with pop up ads you can watch all of the Anime on here https://animeheaven.ru/detail/beastars-sub.22050

Thanks for the link Amducious. I will say, without spoilers, the anima takes a few things farther than the manga. However the characters are dead on. Pretty sure i'm going to end up owning both the DVDs and the Manga.

Reading farther into the manga. Yep, this is WAY darker than the anime. I can honestly see why they left some of this out for American TV.  Awesome read and totally recommended for anyone who is interested in the hole story.

I just ordered Book # 1 of Beastars from Amazon. It should arrive sometime this weekend. I am very much looking forward to it. :)

Also, just out of curiosity, I did a Google image search for "Beastars cosplay". The results I found were quite amazing.  :o School uniforms are the most abundant. Legosi and Haru seem to be the two most popular characters. There's even a live-action Beastars play. (See second pic below.).

No problem! Right?! it's pretty impressive how well the keep it accurate. Yeah the manga is pretty dark but I like how real and relatable the characters are. What's nice is that the manga is still ongoing and is updated every week.

Amducious, What i like best is none of the characters are likable. It's like reading a really dark Marvel comic. Everyone has really disturbing problems.

I am really liking this series!  :)
I bought and read Vol. 1 manga.
I checked out Vols. 2, 3, and 4 from the library and have read those, but haven't bought them yet.
This series is a bit dark like people have said. Lots of interesting and surprising details about character's backgrounds.  :o
From what I've heard, this series goes on for 17 volumes.  :o Sounds like a series about as big as what Inuyasha was.
I love the way the author pays attention to details in an anthropomorphic world. Seems to be more details in this series than what you'd find in regular furry written fan stories. Details like how the characters act, look, talk, eat, sleep, strengths, weaknesses, and so much more.

I have a friend who may be able to provide me with all 12 Season 1 episodes on Weds. Don't ask me how as I don't even know myself how he was able to pull it off. I just asked if he could get me all 12 episodes and he said he would. We'll see what Weds. brings. ;)  BUT.......I'll still eventually buy the series when it comes out on DVD too in the foreseeable future.

Well Paru doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon which is good to hear I'm hoping it goes on for awhile. Also if you're interested there's another manga spinoff related to Beastars that deals with interspecies relationships, Beast Complex. Side note the English voice acting on Netflix is low key kinda bad but not terrible. I prefer the original Japanese over the English dub.

Totally disappointed with the  version of Beastars on Netflix. It's been censored. There is one word that's spoken by Legosi that is so important to the rest of the story. Not only was that word changed but even his reaction to saying it was edited out of the video.  Really was trying to get around everything else. Seeing that was my breaking point. Why do they dumb things down for American audiences?

Censoring almost anything from overseas has been going on for decades or longer. Anything aimed at children is particuarly censored. WE MUST PROTECT THE CHILDREN! is the usual rallying cry. Sometimes, the censoring comes from parent groups, or it may be church and religious groups, or it may be the government, or even Hollywood, or book publishers.
But.........sometimes it may not be censoring at all, but rather something got "lost in the translation" so to speak. ;)

As it stands this show isn't meant for children. Not with all the sex and violence the American version has. I watched it wondering who Loui is. In both the manga and anime Louis is a conceded jerk. With a ego and a chip on his shoulder.  Loui however seems to have it all. Friends and popularity. They edited this character to be someone likable. Really glad I have access to both the dubbed version and manga.

In other news..........Vol.2 manga book never got delivered today even though the USPS tracking info. said it would. I've got a horror story for ya that happened to me. I had a package go from the east coats to the west coast. Four times! Funny part about it is it passed a bit over a mile a way from my house all eight times it traveled on the highway.  UPS finally figured it out. The guy didn't cover the bar coded on the box. So every time UPS scanned it they got told to ship it to California.  I finally got it. And a good story to tell.

Looks like the Amazon seller has somehow tracked down my missing Vol.2 and is trying to get it back on course to me. I checked the USPS tracking info. again and it says it should be delivered today. But nothing got delivered today as the postman came and went 10 minutes ago. :( Maybe the tracking info. is wrong and maybe it will be tomorrow instead? I can only hope.

Received a small USB stick from my best friend with all 12 Season 1 episodes of Beastars on it. :) I watched the first two episodes last night and the animation is really good. I really liked the opening credit scenes of episode 2 with the stop-motion puppet animation. I thought that was kinda cool and reminded me of the film The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Finally got Vol.2 manga in the mail today! Yay! Now I'm a happy husky. :) I'll be ordering Vol.6 soon.

Finished watching episodes 3-12 of the anime last night and I found it to be really good. You're right, Cause. It does differ from the manga slightly, but not too much. And it is a bit dark. You can really tell the creators put a lot of emotion into the development of the characters and how they relate to one another and so forth.

Volume 11 should be on March 16, 2021

I wish my library had it...

Why don't you try asking your library if they can get it in and put it on their shelves? Some libraries will take suggestions from patrons about what books, movies, etc. the library should get in for people to check out. I've done it at my library in the past already.

Recieved Vol.9 manga yesterday, so I'll be spending a relaxing day tomorrow reading it in earnest.

So not to sound stupid ( I am ) but how many volumes are there?  And why is Amazon releasing them so SLOWLY!.
I think I saw that there are 18 volumes, and you can only get up to vol 9 at this time, and they are released like every month or so?
I can blow through one volume in a few hours, and that is with staring into each graphic as well as reading every letter.

There are at least 22 Japanese manga volumes. I would expect the Americanized version to be roughly the same amount.

And why is Amazon releasing them so SLOWLY!.
Best guess is that maybe it has to do with licensing and distribution rights somehow? I really don't know.

I think I saw that there are 18 volumes, and you can only get up to vol 9 at this time, and they are released like every month or so?
They are released every other month. January, then March, then May, and so on.

On a good day, I can probably read a volume in 2-3 hours or less.  :D

Jade, I'm not sure why either. They have all been translated into English for a good six months now. Wondering if there is any differences between the ones sold on Amazon and the one's I've read on line. Perhaps they are Americanizing them. Just like they did with the anime on Netflix.

Kobuk, I have a question for you. The deer character in the manga. Is his name Louis?  And is it Lagosi or Lagoshi?

Louis is correct.

It's Legoshi in the American manga. But I think it might be spelled or pronounced Regoshi in the Japanese manga or Japanese anime?

Kobuk. In all the manga it's spelled Lagosi. In all the subtitled anime I watched it's pronounced making a sh sound by half. Like trying to make the sh sound but not raising your tongue. So it sounds more like an S. And the L is sounded as an L as well.

Here's another question. Was Haru's first 'boy friend' a student or teacher? And at what age was Haru when she first met Lagosi?

I feel like I'm giving a test.  :D  It's Bestars trivia night!

I'm assuming it was Louis. They had an "affair" in Vol.4 I think?

18 I think?

What is this? The Spanish Inquisition?  :D

Question for you, Cause. What is Legoshi's favorite type of sandwich?
Title: Re: Beastars on Netflix

Legoshi is from Bella Legosi.  So says the author.
So I guess they are honoring this and saying it as La-go-see  instead of leg-go-she, which come to think of it, is rather interesting to think of his name that way. I used to work for a nice Japanese company, and for many persons from Japan, the thing with L and R sounds was real for some of them.  Anyway... they were cool guys to work with.

I was and still am the awkward guy who has wolfish looks at times, and I do not mean pretty.  I have always had the dark circles near the eyes thing going on, piercing stare, so I sort of identify with some of what a wolf in high school might feel.  And I was like Legoshi too, quiet, interested in little things that I liked, people thought  I was weird (they were right). I also would explode all over someone, or was quiet, no in between.  And no, I have no record. :-)

Anyway, I guess I didn't recognize the pattern to the releases.  I will just have to wait for the English ones, I can't read Japanese.  I do not want anything Americanized. I like these because they are not predictable.

Reading makes me remember better.  A video is quick fun for me and is fleeting.  So I really want to read this series to the end.  Then maybe I watch it.

Kobuk, Lagosi's favorite sandwich is egg. And he likes the one's made on Wed. the best. Because they taste better.

Haru was between the ages of 16 and 17 when she and Lagosi first met. Her first 'boyfriend' was around the age of 14. He was a teacher. I think they are Americanizing the official releases over here.

Jade. People do remember things they read better than things they see. People tend to visualize things as they read. Visualization makes things easier to recall.

OK. No spoilers and no details. The manga and the anime are almost two different stories.  Finished up the subtitled anime for season two. Well worth the watch. Not going to say the story they went with is bad. Just about as far from the manga as "Alice in wonderland" is from 'Tank Girl'. Would love to see a non Netflix version of this series.

Indeed it has a different feel to it and there were parts I liked about it and some parts I wish they would've kept in the story. I don't know if we'll get a season 3 but if we do I'll be very pleased  :)

44 months to wait for it to finish?

Title: Re: Beastars on Netflix

WARNING spoilers.

As far as a Manga goes this I feel this one was rushed. There were ideas introduced that went no where. The wolf/bunny fighting spirit, the whale, and exactly why was the meat market destroyed. Still can't figure out a reason why Yahay , the retired Beastar tried to kill Lagoci. And the ending between Lagoci and Haru. Disappointing and without real resolve. The fights leading up to Lagoci Vs Melon. Lagoci in a dress and high heals? It started out great. But as soon as the fight between Lagoci and Riz was over so was the menga. I really wanted it to be better. The Manga is still way better than the anime. Honestly believe they know the anime is bad, That's why there is a three + year wait for the last season. They're hoping people forget just how bad it was.
Title: Re: Beastars on Netflix
Post by: Jade Sinapu on February 27, 2023, 09:52:18 am
The last volume left me feeling like the first time I watched Monty Python Search For The Holy Grail.
I was like, what that is the end?  What there is no resolution to this!  Come on!

Maybe I'm weird but I was wanting Legoshi and Haru to do the deed and him knot her and cause some type of event/embarrassment/etc to happen, that could have been used in later episodes as a reoccurring humorous motif.

Also I would have liked for Melon to be ripped apart and eaten or dissolved by Komodo Dragon venom.

And yeah, about that meat market, so what gives, are they just going to eat plants?
Canines do not do well eating 100% plants, some canines get bloat that can kill them. Seriously.  They are dismissing eons of evolution as the species they are.  The meat market will ALWAYS exist!

Also, I had hoped that since (apparently) some herbivores like canine teeth and the concept of being devoured, that there might be mention in Beastars of the the following concept.
Herbivores that die (naturally) can donate to carnivore food programs or enriching soil.  There would be a group to oversee this happens naturally.
And all carnivores can choose to feed carnivores (has to be regulated and certain restrictions) and there is a strong push for carnivores to "enrich soil".  This way , hakuna matata, the circle of life!
But they CAN eat meat this way.

I know that the sea people, with their ways, do allude to providing them all with fish as the meat source.  But what if someone tires of feesh.  aka Black Market!

Also about Melon, were they saying his mom molested him?  I figured that, but want to see what others thought of that.

And how are the other characters doing?  Panda Psychologist, crazy female rabbit, as well as Legoshi's college friends!
What of Jack?
(he is probably going crazy humping now that he is out of college and was so repressed)

Jack. Now there's another story that went no where. Dogs wee bread to be smarter so Jack was taking special classes. And what about the Cat who was trying to kill off all the hybrids. There were so many story lines that hit dead ends. It's like they took the time to trough all these no were stories to stretch the manga out instead of adding to it.

I'm wondering if the manga and anime turned out feeling rushed because of their association with Netflics.

I figured more would come of Jack the Labrador since he was so smart too.  I figured he would use his brain to solve some big issue in the end.
NOPE

I liked his character and was distraught at the concept of him killing him self using those onions.

That whole episode with Jack was deep. He wanted to die because he couldn't cry for his best friend. If you take this manga apart and view it's content in pieces each piece was a work of art. Unfortunately each piece is a portion of a separate work of art. Jumbled together. What we all ended up with is more like viewing the bottom of a trash can.  Another story line that had no impact. How both predator and prey first agreed to live together. How did that change to the social system they have now? The could have left all this out and spent more time on the actual story line.  The manga was chuck full of filler material.
