At the snail spitting contest in France, the winning distance was 31 feet! Just thought you'd like to know...and hope that you weren't eating as you read this...

I can imagine a bunch of french people sitting in a circle, bored, and some guy suggests "hey lets spit some snails". Interesting customs around the world, wonder how far I could get one *scratches his head*

Actually the competition started one night when a few drunk frenchmen decided to have a little fun. They went around to the tourists and would ask them to try this new fantastic dessert.

As they tourists took a bite the frenchmen would tell the tourist what it really was. Immediately the tourist would spit out the escargot and the frenchmen would measure the distance.

This also started another french tradition. The Tour de France was started when one of the tourists got mad and chased the poor drunken frenchmen across the french countryside.

Hey... Escargot doesn't taste -that- bad.
I guess you just have to get used to the idea that you're putting a snail (omg icky!!!1) in your mouth.

You know, I wouldn't mind eating escargot. Nor a rat if cooked right.

Prairie oysters though, no. Just.... no. Consuming the leftover's of some poor bovine's castration just sickens me for many reasons.

It really isn't, but when you look at what it's made of, you have to know that it must have been discovered during a famine.

Personally, I think Snail Spitting is the result of Lance Armstrong's 6th win in a row. No offense to any French furs present, but the French -- especially the Parisians -- tend to get extremely aggravated when anyone -- especially an American -- does better than all the French athletes at a game on their home soil.
