New sketches!
« on: March 20, 2003, 01:32:48 am »
Ok, having to basically sit home from having a nasty fall yesterday, I sat on the couch and sketched out some new sketches that I will be coloring for the AC 2003 Art show. Not sure yet how many I will be putting in the show but they will ALL be originals, no prints. So far, I have approximately 3 panels worth in my head. Some of these are sketches I created last year but never finished as I kept thinking how I wanted to finish them. I finally have figured out how I want to do those.

Here are the newest sketches for AC 2003!

This first one is a "Clouded Leopard". I think they are so adorable and I love their coat markings! This is my FIRST 'Clouded Leopard'.

This second one is a "Snarling Jaguar". I got hooked on creating these because of the ones I created for my son. I am also feeling more comfortable drawing them.

The third sketch is a what we call a "Jaguar Mud Bath". This particular piece just looked so interesting!

When I have time I will scan the other sketches I have created in the past for this years AC. I have also been organizing EVERYTHING so I will know how many I have per panel and how many more pics I need to create for a particular panel.

We are planning on 6 framed 8 1/2 x 11" originals per panel. At this point I don't think I will be creating anything for the adult section this year.

I don't have any plans as yet for creating dragons. Sorry DrakonianDanceR. Once I get the ones out of my head and if there is still time to come up with something before AC, then I will try creating some dragons.

I will be trying my hand at some pixie/fairy type pieces for AC.

I hope you enjoy the sketches above!  '<img'>

I hope you aren't too bad from your fall, Kada.  I like all three sketches so far, and I look forward to seeing them progress further.  No worries about the Dragons, it's okay.  So what have you got planned to do next, and in the future?  The fairy/pixie pictures sound interesting - I'd like to see them, when you've got some done on them.

Oh, staying down most of the time not really moving about much but will be ok in a couple more days. Thank you for your concern, DrakonianDanceR.

I'm planning on sketching out EVERYTHING I want to color for AC. Then color them. I will post as I go along. We have also been thinking about more panels so that means more pics that need creating! So far, I have at least 12 pics figured out and some sketched. I will be working on the others in the days to come. I will post the newest sketches as I complete a few at a time.

I will be posting some more sketches to this topic in a couple of hours.

I hope you get better from your fall soon, Kada.

I'm really looking forward to your finished clouded leopard pic. I love spots and those have -very- pretty ones.

That little grey fox looks like it has potential to be really really cute. The sketch is already showing it. hehe. And I'm glad you took my suggestion for kangaroos.  '<img'>

Have fun with the coloring!

(giggles) Thank you, Sumarra. I am getting better.

I'm trying my hand at several species. I do so love this! (giggles) I really do. It reminds me of when I first started breeding fish. I joined a fish club in Aug., 1993 and they had a breeder program. I joined it and started breeding different species. Because of that program I spawned 85+ different species between 1994 - 1997. When I started breeding other fish, just to see if I could, boy what a high those accomplishments gave me!

Now, I'm feeling the same sensation from drawing better and many varieties! Now, I am trying to draw them "just to see if I can"!!

I like those seven sketches you linked to there, Kada.  Some of them look like silhoettes (sp), which I think makes them look quite original.  I'm wondering what youre planning on doing to these sketches (if anything), and what else you may have on your agenda.

They do seem outlined. I did those last year, most of them and need to finish them and I will do that when I color them. Thanks, DrakonianDanceR.

Well, what do I have planned so far?

hmms... panels: probably going to need 2-3 in adult and 6-9 in general. Of course, this is going to take a lot of time creating all these pics for those amount of panels but I am actually in a 'creative' mood so I need to create while I can!  '<img'>

Speaking of panels, we were allowed to take pics of ONLY our panels last year. Here is a pic of my general section.

(giggles) I noticed looking at this pic again that we want to put 6 pics on each panel. What the picture shows is 3 panels. The reason I was giggling is that I am trying to create 6 pics per panel for this year and they are mostly horizontal! That is going to take some work to get 6 on a panel! *oh boy* Oh well, never fear, because WS is great at getting them set up just right!

It was nice to see your panels photograph.  Having never been to a convenetion before, I wasn't really sure what to expect.  Sounds like you've got quite a bit of work to do, to all the pictures done that you want to do for AC.  And it's good you've got someone that can fit 6 pictures on a 5-picture panel ]B=8)  Always useful.  Anyway, I look forward to seeing these AC pictures progress - I know they'll turn out great.

Thank you, DrakonianDanceR.

I wanted to get a pic of the panels last year because I really enjoyed having my artwork displayed and I didn't get pics the year before. Didn't think I was allowed to but, if you ask the staff if it is ok to take a pic of ONLY your panels then usually they are ok with it. They stand there with you when you take the pic and then look at the camera, digital anyway, to make sure you didn't take pics of the other artists works and then ok it. I will be taking pics again this year. *They are very strict on making sure no one takes pics of others artwork.*

Ok, I have two more sketches finished!

"Wolf Stare" I totally LOVE how this one turned out! I actually have depth and persepective and all those things I have struggled to be able to do with my art!

"1st Griffon" I didn't really have any references to go by with this one since it was 2 am when I started the sketch. I was too tired to download/look at other griffons to know what they are supposed to look like. (a groggy giggle) This morning I showed it to WhiteShepherd and he suggested a couple pics to look at. Though this one needs arms, I decided to not change this one. I will look at references to create a new one.

"Wolf Stare" is really nice.  You should be proud of it, as it's very impressive.  "1st Gryphon" is also good, for saying you've not studied any Gryphons before doing it.  Though, if you did want to improve on drawing these creatures, I would suggest looking for some pictures, and studying them, as it would vastly improve your skills.  Hey, it worked for your other animals you've done.

(giggles) Yes, looking at references definitely has helped!

I will be getting some references after I get some space on my hd.

Yes, I am very proud of the 'wolf stare'. It seemed so easy to sketch too. Seems they are getting easier to sketch with each new one I create. No effort at all with the details either! I must be getting better! I love it. I was telling WhiteShepherd this morning I think with the way I have been improving that that is what is giving me such a 'high'! It's wonderful!

Looking for Gryphon pictures may be a little harder than looking for other animal pictures, due to the multiple spellings you'll have to seach for.  Also, as you saw then searching for Dragons, there will be many, many different types and style of Gryphon to study.  One artist that does a lot of adult anthro-Gryphon art is Foxxfire.  You may wish to look at what he does: I can't seem to link directly to the Gryphon pages, so you'll have to get to it yourself from the frontpage.

As for your improvement on art; it is very clear.  You are actively learning new art skills all the time, and putting them into practise.  That's why you are improving at such a fast pace.  And I'm glad it makes you feel good.

Thank you for the info, I will check out his site.

Yes, I am sure there are many different types. I also found this to be true with the fairie pics I finally was able to find and download. So many variables with wings! It is great. This also helps me realize that I can use my own imagination (which I am building with furry art) and create art pieces that are truly in my style!

And I'm glad it makes you feel good.

(giggles) Yes, this is such a wonderful high I just LOVE this feeling and wish I could create and feel like this 24/7! Hey, it is a great dream any way. Life does get in the way and we do have work to take care of! That is ok. I will improve along the way with the time I have to create and I will still enjoy this high.

I have to thank WhiteShepherd for all his help in critiqueing my works to help me improve and taking care of some of lifes little annoyances so I can create my art! (Like cooking etc.!'<img'>

I also thank you, DrakonianDanceR for your suggestions and help with creating dragons! '<img'>

Will I remember the 'little' fursons that helped me along the way when I become rich and famous?

SURE I will! (hmms.. ) Now, what was your names again so I can have my secretary write it down for me.  '<img'>

And to think some people miss out on the good feeling you arae experiencing, just from not exploring their creative side.  As shown by you, learning and then applying that into being creative (in your case, art), can feel wonderful.  Though, I'm sure you have also experienced times when you get yourself angry over art, too.  I know I have with music.  I've shouted at myself in the past because I feel so worthless at being creative sometimes.  But I guess artists are like that too, with their work.

And when you do get famous, I'll be so happy for you, as you've put a lot of time and effort into improving your artistic skills.  You certainly deserve to do well.

(giggles) Oh yes! I have gotten mad at drawings! There have been times that what I was seeing in my minds eye just would NOT go onto the paper, no matter what! I then would need to take a few days away from it and then when I went back to try again, it came out splendidly!

Luckily, this time I am on such a high that my creativity is just flowing magnificently and I don't want it to end! I know I will need a break from it after finishing all these pieces for AC though!

(giggles) That would be nice if I can. For now, just getting my art out to the public and getting noticed for my abilities is a great step! If money comes in, well, that is just a positive PLUS!

Yeah, I think breaks are a good idea.  Though, if after AC you're still feeling like you could produce more art - don't stop yourself.  I've heard of artists having years off art, and then not being able to get back into it.  Also, some want to keep at art, and are unable to for years.  I don't say this to dishearten you, but to make you aware that you should not intentionally stop your creativity if you can help it.

And about your future fame:
Quote

Indeed.  Remember there are different types of fame.  You could go all the way, and become a household name, and earn your living from your art.  On the other end of the scale, you could become famous just in certain circles, for example the furry community online.  There are a few names that would always crop up if you asked any fur for some famous furry-artists' names.  Though with this, you wouldn't make enough money to live off.  Depending what you're like, depends on what sort of fame you'd prefer.  Even the most well known furry artists still have to go to normal jobs, like working in a store, etc, to make money - so fortune doesn't always follow fame.  But it's fun to dream.

I know. I did do that once. When I started keeping fish back in 1985, I quite drawing. I did little doodles now and then but that was it. Didn't really start back up with it till after FC 1999. Then it just took off!

I remember visiting my sister 2 years ago in Texas and she showed me some of the pics of horses I had drawn for her in the way past and the horses I was doing 2 years ago, were no different from those really old ones. I think they were like the 1970's and 80's. I told myself I was going to make my horses look better and I just started building up my experience and talent to what you see today. Of course, I haven't done any more horses really.  '<img'>

Most likely, I will be the one that justs gets the name notice. I don't mind. I have some drawings that were just sketches when I first started drawing furries that WS put on Furbid for me and they sold right off the bat! Of course, it wasn't much but that is ok. Now, someone has 7 of my original sketches from when I first started creating furry art either on their wall or in a folder. That still feels good to me. Some one liked them enough to buy them.

I don't know if Foxxfire's griffons really assisted me in figuring out how to draw mine. His seemed more humanish and definitely adult. Which I wasn't looking for. But, as far as the griffon having a lion body and bird arms, wings and head, yes, I had already figured on adding the arms etc. to mine. I do thank you for his link though. I was able to see some griffons from another perspective.

Kada, That wolf face looks great! A seller for sure, I'll bet.
And that gryphon is pretty darn good for a first try. I like the wyvern-ish look you gave it by using only four limbs. I have seen some like that before in old welsh drawings somewhere.

The most daunting thing about gryphons, to me, is trying to detail the feathers. It seems like so much work.  ':p'

Keep them coming, Kada! hehe.

Wow, sounds like you did well with those early sketches on Furbid, Kada.  The thing to think is that your art has touched someone, somewhere in this vast world, enough for them to buy it, and keep it.  That's amazing, it really is.

@ Sumarra:  I can understand it being hard to do the feathers on a Gryphon - having to make each one detailed, so it doesn't look like it's been rushed, etc.

@ Kada:  I was going to ask you about what you were planning to do for colouring it, but I just remembered I've already just seen it.  So what's next to do on the list?  Oh, and how's your back doing?

Thank you, DrakonianDanceR. I was really surprised that I sold them on FurBid. I was surprised someone wanted them to begin with. Oh, here is the url to the thumbnails of the ones I sold on FurBid:

"First anthro-furry sketches"

I haven't put anything more up on Furbid. We have talked about it but just never got around to it. One of these days.

Thank you for your concern, DrakonianDanceR. Still don't want anything touching my backside or hip. Still quite bruised! A black bruise about 8"L x 3"H. Burns and hurts like the dickens when things are against it. Sitting in vehichles is a bit touchy too. But, it is getting better, slowly but surely.
