Being a fur is just a way of thinking, it's just who you are regardless of your job.
Having said that, when I was in the Army I was more into Amtgard(LARP) then I was into Furry Fandom(no easy access to a computer), and I will tell you that I got no end of crap for it(purple leather armor, silver puffy sleeve shirt, boffer weapons), but I learned that you have to be who you are, and as long as you were doing your job that can't say anything about what you do on your off time.
Now that I am in the Air Force, and more open about my Furry side,  I let them laugh, heck I laugh with them, I answer the questions, I show them sites, I let them come up with there own thoughts on the subject, but the second it becomes harassment I tell them to cut it out and there are things I keep to myself. People will ridicule things they think are silly, and if you think about it we are kinda silly,(I am really silly and it only has a little to do with my Furry side) you just have to be better then them, and if it gets to be too much, handle it, don't just sit on it.

Sorry (Climbs off the soap box), just my two.

it's not really a big deal, not many people at my command knows about the furdom and it's not like it would matter if they did. It is not against any kind of rule or code in the service and as long as what I do in my personal life doesn’t conflict or interfere with my duties then it should not be an issue.

That being said, I admit that I do not openly tell people at work about being a furry but a don’t really hide in either. I few of my ‘more open-minded’ coworkers know about it but those who would harass me about it are kept in the dark due to their inability to see anything outside of the norm...unless it slaps them a crossed the face like if I became for vocal about it, forcing them to deal with in.

'<img'>  They don't care as long a you adhear to the codes of conduct and the dress codes on base. Once you leave base it's fair game. Still if you get in trouble you have to really be ready to hear it from your chain of command. I am in the USMC so it's a bit more strict here then in the other services... rest assured though if you join the USAF or the Army you can expect to get away with all kinds of nastyness.

that sux...did you try to get a waver?

I got rejected for service because I was born with Gastosises (not spelled right) the first time I when to MEPS, I was very Lucky to be the 1 out of 4 to survive. My recruiter worked hard to get a waver so I could join, I even still have the latter the gov sent me saying that I'm denied entry

I didn't let my asthma keep me out of the military. Of course when I went in I was only 17 - my personality wasn't fully developed. Back then I was FIRMLY house cat - no leonine issues with "authority." Thanks to five years in intelligence (and what an odd five years) and a variety of influences/experiences I have developed some mental issues that I am quite proud of: superiority complex, "lone wolf" tendencies, some anger issues (not so proud of that, and I am working very hard to deal with them), and shall we say a certain level of deviousness and ability to manipulate that only experienced interrogators have (no, I never even WENT to Abu Grabh).

As far as being furry in the service went, I obviously had to keep it a private issue (though some people called me the Cat). I never had time/location to go to any furry events, and never found anyone else who shared my interests. Oh well.

I havn't had much of a problem with it myself, I have furry pictures in my wall locker and will discuss it with anyone who asks =P. Though I'm already known for being a little strange ^^ lol, I'm a little larger than most so that might be why I don't get much crap for it. But yes there will be some people that will laugh and joke you'll get that anywhere =P just roll with the punches and laugh with them, we should all be able to laugh at ourselves.
Kayf, you were an interrogator? I work with a lot of them ^^ (is a Counterintel agent)

I stated this in another post--I and my studio group all have a family member or a friend serving.  We respect what they do and love them for that.

To all of our furry fighters--God bless, and keep up the good work!

I'm about to leave for USMC boot camp, so this was an odd topic to come across.  '<img'>  But I wouldn't see why being furry would be any kind of problem.

Hey all!!!!! I am in the military. I know its hard to out right tell people who I am, so I don't unless they ask. I have wolf pics and a bunch of stuff hanging around that eludes to the fact that I love wolves. IF people ask,Ill test the waters. And if I deem them not worthy,I dont let them know!!. I think it takes a level headed person or a friend to accept a person for what they are,so youll have to make that choice, but for now,its my own personal escape and I wouldnt have it any other way!!! I'm proud to be who I am in the military!! '<img'>

Me, i'm furry as anything.  Army and i suppose other services have furries too.  it;s no diffrent than any other job and being furry.  Just as mentioned before, follow the army rules when on duty and whatever you do off is up to you.

i know lots of army furs, not so many other services, i knew a af fur.  that;s about it.

Just don;t be flaunting it and you will be fine.  hell, if you're canine it may help ^.^
