Ulgh.... I dont think I'd be able to look at a fursuit ever again if it was made of real fur.... much less wear one.
You can mainly find me in Furtopia's IRC.

REAL fur?  eww... if that kind of morbidity were part of the fandom, I can ASSURE you I would NOT take part in furry.  use of real fur for such things, including normal clothes since the invention of fabric and the likes, is ridiculous, disgusting, and overall completely unnecessary.

real fur is the best! no, im just joking. though that really isnt something to joke about. i hate how people wear the fur of those poor animals. i call all the people i see wearing fur "murderers"! makes me upset sometimes. people use animals for all the wrong purposes.

*nods* Not much to add that hasn't been said already.

We'd be quite contradictory of ourselves if we condoned the killings of innocent animals for fur, just so we can "dress up" like them. I've yet to hear of a case where real fur was used in the making of a fursuit, and you wouldn't find me anywhere near one. '<img'>

I almost had a heart attack when I saw the sub title for this topic lol. No, real fur being used in fursuits is something I'd hate to see, and I agree that I'd have difficuilty in looking at fursuits if they did use real fur. The only time I think "wearing" an animal is acceptable is if it's a by-product of the food - leather as a by-product of killing the cow for beef for example.
its the oddest thing. I really didnt see this coming! We had dinner and talked about going over to his mother's house on Sunday and about getting a puppy. I thought things were getting serious. Then I wake up on Thursday and hes not here! just like that - gone! I asked some of his buddies in the system 32 folder but they didnt know what happened. I just dont understand.........

No, real fur is NOT used in suits, for several reasons:

1) It doesn't keep as well as the "faux fur" that is used.
2) It would drive the cost of a fursuit WAY up.
3) As many others have said, it's hypocritical.

...and don't get me started on fur coats. Uhhhh, too late. I don't think they should make any more of those things. But for goodness' sake, if you own one and don't want it anymore, don't throw the thing out. That's even more of an insult.

My mate hangs on to fox coat his mom used to wear. The damage has already been done so he doesn't feel too bad about it. Says it's very soft and snuggable, heheh..  '<img'>

Exactly what I mean. I don't have a problem with that. The animal has already died and that can't be taken back, so you might as well make its sacrifice worthwhile.

Frankly, I don't see any reason that real fur is still used for anything. The differences are so minor with a quality faux as to be a non-issue. Also, the faux fur is easier to clean, easier to work with, and probably cheaper!

Even if someone did use real fur for a fursuit, I wouldn't want to hear about it or see it. The person who does that would have to be real sick in the head.  ':p'  If anyone even tried to wear a fursuit (Using real animal fur.) to a con or furmeet, I suspect they wouldn't last long there before getting banished from the place or their suit confiscated or people not wanting to be anywhere near the person. I also can't stand the people who advertise ears, tails, etc. on Furbid that are made from real animal fur. I wish that stuff wasn't allowed there.  ':p'

if people are selling ears and tails made out or real fur then whose buying them wearing a real tail would be the same as a suite made out of fur because the animal has to die and l think thats wrong to

Guess I'll just echo here... everything I'd have said on this matter's already been said.

On a slight off-note, I've seen some of the faux furs offered by National Fiber Technology... wow! I'm not a layman, and this stuff does look and feel real! Now, if only I had enough money to buy all I'd need for a suit ($30-$40 a square foot! ).

I just hate when I see folks use real fur for there furry costume. now way back b4 faux fur was even made I bet they had no choice to use real animals to help them blend in til it was time to attack (indians) but that was not til after they have killed an animal & use it for food & its fur to hide them til it was time to attack others.

The very only realfur fursuit I have ever even heard of was the cowardly lion from wizard of OZ and it was made from 2 lion hides. From what I understand the actor was miserable.
If a furry went to a convention in a real fur suit I think it would be make WW2 look like kids in a water balloon fight.

I would never use real fur in a 'suit, it's way to expensive, to difficult to work with, and to easily damaged in a con environment.

Does anyone wonder why I did say I wouldn't use it simply because it's real, or that it's immoral, etc? Because I Will and DO tan and use real hides that I get from picking up roadkill. The tail I wear on my helmet is a real fox tail and I will eventually cover my helmet with an entire hide- head and all. When I'm in the wind, the spirit of that fox runs free once more.
I'm always looking for good condition fox, raccoons, beavers, skunks- you name it- when I drive. I find it shameful to leave these beautiful animals lying on the shoulder to rot, if I can make them useful then I can celebrate thier spirits and the freedoms they held. I would never kill an animal simply for it's hide, but I see nothing wrong with putting to use an animal that has already died. Letting it life go to waste is the bigger sin in my opinion.

Sporty:  As long as the animal is already dead (roadkill), I guess I see nothing wrong with using it's hide for other purposes. But sometimes there's a part of me that wishes for the animal to simply be buried and left in peace.  ''

moved the the more appropriate area.

Sporty I see not a thing wrong with what you do. It seems an homage actually. Not many would stop to used a roak killed animal for anything.
