Psychologists speak of "perceptual filters" that color the way that you perceive reality, and influence the way that you think and feel.  At times, we can respond to our perceptions rather than directly to reality.  Does being furry color or influence the way that you view reality and others within it, and if so, in what ways?   '<img'>

I sort of do. I notice the more "Animal like" Qualities in people. like I'll associate my German teacher with a hedgehog. I dunno why, she just reminds me of one. I dunno if that's what your talking about though...

Well I'm not entirely sure if I get what you mean, so I'm not sure if I'm gonna make sense at all, but sometimes I'll just sit there watching people go by and think "That guy's a cat, that woman's an otter, there goes another badger..." And then I'll get stuck with the damn Badger Song in my head and lose the vibe... But still, I think you get the point.  '<img'>

I think I've since become a lot more judgemental since I started thinking of myself more as a fur as opposed to a human with furry tendencies.  The thing about furry for me is that I'm one of the totemic varieties of furs; I think I was either a tiger in my past life or I was supposed to be one in this life.  Either way, I know there's absolutely nothing I could present to support this hypothesis short of my own gut feelings, so whenever someone asks what I believe in, I usually just respond: "I have my own ideas."

A lot of other people I know, however, were raised under the "my house my rules" principle, and now that they are adults, express their own ideas in the same manor.  Often, when pressed with different ideas, they will either dismiss them, fillibuster their old teachings, or threaten whoever presented the differencing opinion with physical or financial harm (which is especially true of people raised with religious pride and/or patriotism).  So while I can admit that I just believe something because it seems to feel right, there are so many other people that don't explain to me why they are right; they just believe they are by default.  That's why I keep my ideas to myself for the most part -- I try not to be like them as much as possible.

Well, yes.  Like Nahuel stated, certain people definitely remind me of certain species, and I use the characteristics of that species to know how to deal with them.

IN RL I tend to watch more body language versus the word they speak. I listen but I look more closely to pick up mental tags. These tags help not only to remember the speaker but my 1st impressions of him/her.

Online well in such cases I use handle names, typing style and the words they use. I do sometimes miss gathering a tag to remember the person if we are speaking in IM and I am distracted. On the boards its easier to remember the tags.

a tag by the way is a way to remember.. aspects of a persons name or an avatar or species.

i tend to think of people as animals, and notice the way theay act, body language and such, more than the way they talk

Fascinating....somewhat like subconsciously associating those you know with familiar story characters and television icons (my dear absent-minded Uncle Homer often lives up as an example '<img'>). Heh, I hadn't really pondered someone doing similar with the animal kingdom...considering my friends, it would be quite an experience, rofl.

Yes it does, but sadly it's really abstract and way too difficult for me to explain.

Could you give an example? and does it work?
