Furry Teens?
« Reply #25 on: December 27, 2005, 01:42:48 pm »
I'm a teen and I joined for two reasons, one was that I met another furry on another non-fur forum. She was kind of strange and was really into sonic the hedgehog and had a link to Jab Archives in her signature but we were still friends. The second is the fact that in the middle of summer I realized I had absolutely nothing to do one day and on a whim decided to look up furries which I knew about from both the girl on the other forum and The Drew Carry Show. And talking to a bunch of sexual fetishists seemed like an interesting way to waste a day until tomorrow or the next day when one of my friends could go to the movies or something.

The first active furry forum I found was this one and you guys were so cool I decided to stay. As for the whole furry thing, I enjoy it immensely and I used to watch Sonic the Hedgehog religiously when I was a kid and also I built nests and dens out of pillows and furniture the way I saw animals on the nature channel build them when I was little. But as far as knowing I was a furry, or even knowing what a furry was, I didn't know that until just recently. And the interest of talking to a bunch of fetishists, honestly I'm a little kinky myself, was the thing that allowed me to find out what kind of people are really in the furry fandom.

Internet is A1 most deffinately to be thanked for it. Another contributer I believe is its a way to grab hold of those last nd teens that ever toyed around soon have a lot of need for that little fefleeting moments of childhood. The last amount of "imagination" and longing to pretend the unreal able to escape the onsolaught of the oncoming adult mind. I imagine that thanks to furry, many individuals will be able to preserve more of that "inner child"

Another part of it is surely the emotional support side of things. Its a lot easier to apprecate snugs, hugs, glomps, pounces, cuddles, snuggles, etc. etc. from other friendly fluffy animals then human strangers of the constantly twisting outside world.

Finnally, I believe many teans may be into furry mainly because it proves to be one of the largest sexual outlets. And teens have a lot of need for an outlet if every theyve messed around with it.
I dont have a single track mind! Ive only got one train of thought. -.-;

i would like to think i've been furry since i was about 8 when i started writing about anthros, given i didn't know what they were, and calling myself feline for almost my entire life.  although i found out about fur on the net at age 13.

I think it's to do with the fact that most people find who they are when they're teenagers (I know I did)

But then again, I didn't know that what I was had a name until I got the internet...which was some time after everyone else did, so I personally didn't discover it until I was about 18 or so.

It's not only the "finding yourself"-thing that gives the fandom a large number of teens when it comes to internet forums etc, but also the fact that when you get older you get all kinds of responsibilites that you don't have as a teen (usually), and you simply don't have the time to hang around in internet forums constantly. Of course, this is entirely individual and some people's life situations easily allow lots of net time etc.
Outside forums (in conventions, personal websites etc) it's easier to find older-than-teens, due to their different, less time-consuming nature.

And yeh, I'm a teen, known about being a furry for 2 years or so. Go me.

Had the internet existed to the general public when I was a teen, I most definitely would have come around sooner . . . though while then I would have said "I've always been a fur but just didn't know it" as that's how I would have looked at it, I can't say that now.  it's more like at this point a friend said "You know, you have a lot in common with these guys, and while you have your differences, you might find a lot of similarities".

I do know one thing though, I actually checked out several forums before finding this one, and this is the one that I would not hesitate for a second to send a teen to who had questions or who said to me "you know what I think I might be . . . . "

I think its the recent media attention, along with the blessed internet that has been bringing in all the teen furrs.  I think its a good thing that our numbers are growing. '<img'>  I started drawing furry art and thinking about furries at a very young age, but without the internet, I proabbly would never have found the fandom. I found the fandom in 2001, so I guess you could say I've been 'offically' furry for 5 years.  And I dont see an end in sight '<img'>

i would have to say its mostly because of the net, too many teenagers spend half their lives on the net myself included and if they come across a place like this that makes them comfortable they will stay and open up
they were always furries this place just helps them relise it

I found the fandom at 14, and ever since it's seemed teens always made the majority of the fandom, which is obviously false because if that's how it was when I was a teen, all those teens are no longer teens '<img'> With furry and the internet, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that for a lot of these people it's new so they get involved pretty quickly. I've been around the fandom for about 7-8 years now (scary!'<img'> and have noticed my activity waxes and wanes more irregularly than the moon. A lot of teen furs now will probably experience the same and not be nearly as involved with it in the future, at least not like they are now, so a new influx will take it's place.

I became interested in the fandom when I was around 15 because of that CSI episode "Fur & Loathing" and this special I saw on A&E or somewhere else...can't remember where and slowly gained interest for the next few years researching it and looking into it online. Now here I am, Not much to it really. Can't wait until I'm 20. *Thumbs Up*...Oh wait..I don't have thumbs.. ':cry:'

Okay, I haven't read any comments yet so I can give my opinion straight forward, because this is a topic I am VERY heated about right now.

I am tired of teen furs, specially the ones who are complaining about their parents, wanting to move closer to their "mates", switching mates ever 3 days, and just being an overall pain in the ### for people who actually want to have conversation and discussion. Sure the furry fandom should be open for all. But leave the whining and baggage that puberty has givin you out the door, because I'm so tired of hearing it -_-;;

All the emos need is to get all hopped up on the catnip.  Then their parents would focus on different problems other than them being furs.

-Also, nothing important to say.

adolescence is a state of self-evaluation in most people's lives, teens esentialy are leaving childhood and finding out all that they are as they grow into adults... and stuff like that O_o It's all a bunch of changes, which helps make being a teen difficult at times.

So I'd say many find out that they are interested in furries arround this time.

teen furries are great I think...well save the emo... it's like a whole new generation of furs, if there were just the adults then the fandom would die out pretty fast...

I really think it's the availability of the internet.

Furries come in all ages, Hell... I've been one as long as I can remember (I'm 21 now), and I couldn't imagine life without being a fur.  There are a bunch of furry adults as well, but I don't know as many adults who use chatrooms and the like.

I totally agree.  Plus it has to do with that age-group.  It's a particularly tumultuous time of your life, lots of hormones bouncing around when everyone is trying to figure out who they are.  Fads come, go, and come again; everyone tries to define themseleves in a multitude of different ways.

The lives of us older furs tend to be more steadfast and directional.  I think that's probably why there aren't so many of us about. ':p'

~FaR~

I agree with both of your statements. Everyone is just trying to find there "nitch", so to speak. I personally think the fandom is only composed of 25% or less minors. Maybe not on this forum, but in the fandom as a whole.

Click here for a pretty decent representation.

Ah, someone who has no idea what the term "emo" actually means, and not what MTV has said it means.

These new bands like MCR, Fallout Boy, and Dashboard Confessional are not emo in the remotest use of the word.

Emo comes from the term "Emotional Hardcore" and originated in the early 90s with bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Hot Water Music, Far, and Drive Like Jehu.

The new rubbish, and the lame fans that go with it are no more "emo" than Green Day are "punk".

Because alot of little kids think it would make them cool because they can claim to be weird in front of their friends and most of all, piss off their parents. So come on and join right up. and the thing about EMO Furs threatening to go home and vacate their own skulls with a 12 ga. shotgun, he's my question. THis is a problem how? If they wanna kill themselves, let em do it. At least we won't have to listen to their whining anymore.
