I don't wear a collar, in fact I hate the thought of one- to me they represent being controlled and restricted *shudders*  I do understand why others wear them and feel it's a personal choice, to each his own! Fursuits or tails aren't for everyone either, I wear my tail only when riding the scoot, and I haven't worn the fursuit in public yet and will only wear it when oppropriate. I do display the head proudly for anyone who visits my house to see tho, if someones at my home then they have to deal with what I am or they can leave   '<img'>

I think this has been talked about before( Ill look for the post later) but as far as I know a lifestyler doesnt even have to wear a collar. Each case is different but I think its a person that just has furry in thier daily life more than most. it influences you in a way. Showing furry on the outside is just another option not a requiement.

'<img'>  as a lifestyler it is just you feeling the need to reach deeper and pull out your inner totem. Some of us are more expressive about it but that don't mean that you have to be just to fit in with some or most furry types and subtypes.

I my self love the attention and the questions that come from doing things like wearing collars because I like to talk about it and share what I think is our wonderful fandome with others. I don't have much regard for others oppinions of me because I belive in being me.

I only wish I had a fursuit to wear around... That would be heaven.

Oh thank goodness, you scared me....I thought you meant going out in just a collar, hahaha.  Still you would've been making a statement that's also a tough act to follow. '<img'>

Yeah, I too have seen this discussed before, but just real quickly, to me a "lifestyler" is someone that to them, being furry is more than just being a fan of furry stories or art.  To me, I like those things BECAUSE I am furry.  Same reason I have ears and a tail.  Haven't got a collar yet though, but if I wore one, it would be as someone's pet. *dies* ...well, to be a lifestyler, you just need to have furry involved in your day often or to have a deeper connection with it than a fan would...another thing that would make me considered a lifestyler is that a portion of the people I hang out with often IRL are other furs...when I'm around other furs I feel content, and comfortable on a level that I can't get with my family or other friends...even one I've been friends with for over 12 years...

Hmm, I think you're a lifestyler when you start to take it a little more seriously.  Fans just really dig the art and the literature, whereas lifestylers seem to go a bit deeper than that.  It's when you start to incorperate it into your daily life where you start to transend the borders of "Fan" and "Lifestyler".

And being a lifestyler doesn't necessarily mean you have to wear a tail and collar and all that stuff.  It's more about how you feel than just what you wear.  I suppose you have to feel a really deep connection with the whole thing, including your chosen animal.

Now, I have no idea whether a Fox would be my spirit animal or whatever, but I definately feel a strong relation to that species (I seriously didn't know there were as many foxes as there are when I joined the fandom   ':p'   ).  As for what I wear, I DESPERATELY want to get a tail to show off my furryness (and just look kewl, I really think they're f***ing wicked fashion accessories), but I'm not getting a collar because my mate insists I don't suit 'em.  Ears are cool too but I think they're a little much sometimes.  And a fursuit would be fun but I wouldn't wear it often.

So, as I said, it's really all about how you feel.  Some just see it as a goofy hobby, others - like me - take it with a little more meaning.  Whenever I think of Furry I definately think of something deep and spiritual.  I think of peace, friendship, acceptance, creativity, individuality, happiness, fun and love.

Just look inside yourself and think of what it means to you.  Your chosen species, nature, your values, your beliefs.  Just think about how you feel.

But whether you wanna go all out and live the furry lifestyle, or just stay a fan and keep your love for anthropomorphic art, we're all furs here, and we all gotta stick together and take care of each other.  I think that idea always gets lost somewhere.

I think furry is more of an introverted aspect of yourself; things like fursuits and tails let are tools to let you express yourself (and look pretty awesome too ^^)

Personally, I'm not against lifestylers, and I wouldn't mind dressing up as my hossie self on occassion, but I just don't find it that appealing. To me, I find cloth and faux fur in some makes me feel like an empty shell. My equine spirit screams at me when I think about adding equiney paraphernalia to my outfit, saying "How dare you! you don't need this bit of fluff! You know you're horse, and be proud of it!" It still doesn't stop me from acting like a horsie, though ^^

p.s. *wavies and neighs to Stego*
What is this that I feel inside?
This warmth, this light I cannot hide?
It smells of grass and crisp, cool air..
And feels of fur and wild hair..
Resounds of strength and thund'rous hooves..
And tastes of sweat and morning dew.
Those who know naught may call it Sin,
But it and I are proud equines.

When i was a kid i used to make paper beaks and put yellow rubber gloves on my feat and ran around like that in the garden for most of the summer...

I can also remember pretending to be many different animals. I made bat wings from black bin bags and wire, stuffed fabric into the back of my pants as tails, obsessed over paper claws which i sticky taped to my fingers and toes.

I got to an age where i realised it was kinda weird and childish. So i stopped and didn't think any more of it until i found the furry fandom.

I'm start trying to make fursuit acessories for myself and any english furs who are interested, see if i still have that creative spur. =) I'd love to have wolf paws! I love wolf paws! XD

well all I know is if I started wearin even my collar out in public my parents would freak. I cant imagine what theyd do if they found out I had a male mate let alone bein a furry. If they ever do find out let me tell ya Id probly never be heard from again. So if I suddenly dissapear thats what happened *sighs*. Its not their fault they were raised devout baptists and well im ranting so Ill stop now hehehe.
