Fursona on/off switch
« on: October 13, 2005, 10:31:11 pm »
I recently realized that I can switch on and off my fursona at will. My fursona is very confident and not a single thought passes in his mind what someone else might think of him. He's brash and bold, lacks a theory of mind (but doesn't care that he does). But deep down he really does care about other people, but he doesn't burden himself worrying too much about doing what they want him to do. That's the exact area I have trouble with so I decided one day to #### this and act like my fursona and it worked! Now, when ever I feel a lack of confidence or feel indecisive, I can get in the frame of mind as my fursona and do what I need to do. I'm still working at it and practicing but so far I've liked it and found it very useful. Anyone else able to do it, or ever hear about it?

well, I will definately admit to sometimes picturing myself as 002 whenever I'm experiencing a rush of emotion such as anger or frustration.  given his mafia/WWII/CIA background, it's not unusual that I'd envision him as the uber-good fighter he is beating the tar out of the physical manifestation of my impediment or barrier.  I guess you could say I try to think of what he would do in my situation, but there's one catch.  my fursona is me.  his opinions, beliefs, and thoughts are extremely similar to my own ones in real life.  given this, whenever I think about what he would do, I think about what values and motives I instilled into him, therefore asking myself what I would do in the situation.  I know it sounds sort of odd, but the jist of it is that I ask myself what the morally and ethically right thing to do is whenever I try to picture myself as my character.

of course, that's what he is, a story character with a pretty well fully-developed background story and plotline based around the 1930s, 1940s, and on.  he's a method for me to express myself for who I am and what I believe, like, and enjoy, not a crutch for relieving pressures of real life.  '<img'>

Not really no. My fursona is on all the time, that's why he's my fursona.

Sometimes though, I get motivation from him, because when I imagine him, one thing that strikes me as a character trait is incredable endurence, especially physical. So, since he's based off me, I know I have the endurence, which causes me to push hard at whatever I do.

I've actually been trying to cultivate aspects of my fursona to a point where they are always on in my day to day activities, but still retain the rest for special occasions.

Mine is as much a part of me as my left leg.

I created my fursona in an attempt to outwardly display myself in a raw form, expression of inner-self, as you might have it...

But that stuff just kinda went out the window.

However, as much as I may try at times, I can't turn it of, because it's me.

Yeah, Dragonfox's too rooted in my mind to "turn off".  Although, the most I've been able to do is to increase how much I feel her phantom limbs by concentrating on them.  Doesn't work in reverse, unfortunately.
Dragonfoxes are crafty creatures, although highly protective.  They love a good prank, prefer to be loners, and this one is highly artistic.

I named my fursona with my own name to assert to myself that furry wouldn't make me crawl into my own head and develop an alter ego developed solely from spending way too much time gawking at adorable internet critters.

So, no.

I've noticed recently that in the process of going back and forth between my personality and that of my fursona they both have begun to change. My fursona is essentialy who I want to become, so in the process of that discovery I'm finding the type of person (or furson) I want to be changes over time, if that makes any sense.
