Reminiscent of childhood fursonas
« on: January 27, 2005, 08:03:50 pm »
I just realized something really interesting... I was eating dinner and for some reason thinking about the games I used to play as a kid... and suddenly realized I had actual fursonas from back when I was about 4.  ''

I knew I've been a fur for like, ever, without really knowing it, but... when I was little, I was obsessed with cats, and I had this alter ego type person. A white, anthro cat named Cassie. When I think about it, she was your typical fursona- I drew pictures of her, wrote stuff about her (well, made up stories... i was a kid...) and she basically  was me. Then, when I was a little older, me and my best friend/neighbor had this game. Well, all our games were weird, normal kids play tag and house and hide and seek... in all our games, we were always animals, and they were more like roleplaying than anything else. Well, this one game in particular was our favorite for years. It was called SpyCats, and we were anthro cat spies. Our mission was to defeat the evil empire of "Devildog".  '<img'>  It was really fun, the more I think about it the more I remember... I was a gray cat with a giant thumb-claw named Ripper. My friend was a brown cat named Seek. Sometimes we would run around our yards and "beat up" the bad guys, other times we would ride around the street on our bikes-motorcycles. Lol, we had all this cool spy gear, pretend guns and stuff... it was so fun.

Anyway, some random reminiscing... not that any of you really needed to know, but I was just all, omg that's weird!!! Let's go post...  '' Well, tis the odd nature of teh coyote. Any of you guys have any weird memories like that?

Most of my childhood memories- at least the good ones anyway- are like that. In all the role-playing games I can remember I was always an anthro of some sort, usually a fox, wolf, or big cat. One of my favorites was tying my wagon to the back of my bike and pretending I was driving a tractor-trailer, I was a panther then. When we would go on our family dirt bike outings- I was ten when they got me my own- I was a fox moto-cross rider. A nieghbor and I would play motorcycle cops on our bicycles, mine was a wolf officer. I think I picked the fursona based on the animal qualities that each role required, looking for the qualities that fit the game best. I honestly don't remember ever wanting to play a game where I was a human   '<img'>

I included animals in so many of the games I played when I was younger.

An old computer game for MS Dos/Windows 3.1 called Animal Quest was my favorite computer game (aside from Klotsky and Wheel of Fortune).
My sister and I had a "clay desk" where we made characters out of modelling clay and played with them. Most of our characters were animals. Same thing with the pipecleaner-wire characters we made.

Then, in 7th grade i made my first fursona. I didn't know about Furry then, but now that I think back, it was. Her name was small Flareon. I'll have to daw her some time.
In 8th grade I became a crow and then a raven and now we have the current Raven me with a cougar tail. '<img'>
Fruitcake is a legitimate gender in my book.

As a kid I used to have an imaginary friend called 'Timmo the tiger' whom I used to 'shift' into and become for adventures. When we moved back to England though he disappeared for various reasons and apart from reading the Redwall books I didn't really use my furry imagination from the age of 6 (I stopped playing at 7 when I was sent to boarding school) 'till I started reading DMFA when I was 17 or 18.

Ah, yes... I remember always "roleplaying" as an animal as a kiddie. Earliest I can remember is about 3 or 4, when my sisters and I would always play "Indians", "Horses", or... "Gumbi". I played as always either a Native American princess named Sunflower (not a furry... but still), a brown mare named Misty (non-anthro animal) or.. hehe... Pokey! *laughs* We'd play all afternoon, running around the yard making up a story (roleplay) as we went. I vaguely remember getting mad cause I wanted Misty to die but they wouldn't let her...
A bit later, maybe in third grade, I made up an Anatolian Shepherd character named Chandler. He was cool. He came along with a German Shepherd named Sabre, a Keeshond named Comet, a grey mare named Dream, and several more.
My favorite game was when my best friend and I would have my house to ourselves to crawl around on all fours playing dogs... We made up the "Dog Academy/Agency". I got the honors of being the boss, Krammer. *smile* The whole plotline was that Krammer and his assistant were battling against Shadow, a ghost dog, and his gang of other ghost dogs. There was fighting and spying and... gah, I'm remembering too much. I gotta stop rambling now.
One more!  '<img'>
I used to always love pretending I was Simba from The Lion King. Even if the only other person I could play with was my Nala plushie (or even my own reflection!'<img'> I'd have loads of fun just crawling around and being in my own little African world...
I wish I was a little kid again. Now I'd look stupid like that... which is why I only crawl around in my room now.

I used to play with the boys at school, the game was Jurassic Park and I was always a velociraptor. I got to eat teh hoomuns!  '<img'>  I had fun. Most of the time though I was either a dragon or a cat. I also pretended to be a seal, rabbit, dog, just any type of animal really. I liked the dragons the best. I could make them act however I wanted them to and no one would protest. Too bad I can't play like that anymore. Oh well.

Hm... at school, I was always one of the "field" people. At recess, there were basically 3 groups; playground, people who used the playgroud in the middle of it all; pavement, people who played wallball and basketball; and field, people who either played football or did "roleplaying" in the field. I played with girls, but it was still fun. All the games I remember are dragons (not often), dogs (Sabre/Chandler; my friend Sam was the "owner"), horses (Dream/Zorro/Storm), dinosaurs (unnamed raptor/unnamed triceratops), and wild animals (wolf, coyote, or cougar were my first choices).

Ah, stop making me remember! XD

EDIT: Must. Add. More. I had too many childhood games...

Lol, canine spies, agents, warriors and stuff were purty popular, I suppose.

In gym, whenever we got a free choice day, like, everyone would be on those little things with wheels... I hated 'em, but all my friends used 'em, so we had a game where everyone would ride around on one and throw dodgeballs at each other, and me and my best friend (who also didn't like them) would stick by one person and be her guard animals... I was a white steed of unknown gender who pulled people around really fast...

i had a major fursona as a kid. it was a fox anthro named Fox Power (ok i was a kid). in this storry called Strikers about a government organaization in a future populated only by anthros. i remember it was a big obsession of mine for a long time, just one of many TV series i have created in my mind. anyway looking back it was pretty shallow but still a precurser to my furry self. odd eh?

Hm.. Cant say I had any specific fursona when I was a kid, but I think I'm the same as I was then in terms of being in touch with my animalistic side. I've always been furry. *shrugs*

I had an imaginary friend that was an anthropromothic fox at some point when I was still in early primary school, because I'm pathetic like that. Also started some club with friends where we represented ourselves as different big cats. That was later Primary.
After that I kind of left the drawing thing alone for a while as the overly violent things I occasionally churned out had started to make people concerned about me and I didnt feel like dealing with them.

Looks like I wasn't alone after all.  '<img'>  lol, who wants to play humans anyway? The only games I can ever remember playing humans in was a few where we were Pokemon trainers... of course, we usually just ended up playing the Pokemon anyway. Don't we all wish we were still young enough to play like that? Actually, last summer my friend and I started playing one of our old pokemon games just for fun. His mom came outside, you should have seen the look she gave us!!

I think one day we should just get a bunch of furs to meet at a random park or something and then just all start playing... if only to see the expressions of the passerby.  '<img'>

*changes ito her old 'play clothes'-- torn jeans and a cat shirt* I'm ready!!!

I'd kill to just be a kid again...

Sometimes when my best friend and I get together, we try to get a good game of dogs going... but we always get too distracted. Not to mention we used all the good "stories"... *sniff*

I remember one time, at a sleepover, after the two stupid people fell asleep, me and two of my friends got up and played dogs until morning. :P

But doesn't it feel weird when you're playing as someone of the opposite sex and you have to fall in love...?
Not trying to say anything about homosexuals, but I'm "straight", soo...

When I was little, I never could wait to grow up and do all the "cool grown-up things", but now... >_< I am forced to face the reality that most "grown-up things" are totally not worth the wait. If I had died right before I entered 7th grade, my life would have truly been happy. I think instead of shapeshifters they should have age shifters, so you could be an adult when it's fun/neccesary, (like buying M-rated games and getting into R-rated movies ^_^) and then when you got bored or depressed you could just go be a kid again. *sigh* I want more than anything to go back to those days when life was so simple...

I can't really say too much about the falling in love thing, I never really did that. Well, all my friends usually played boy chars for some reason, and back in the day we failed to quite grasp the term of gay. '<img'> Although now I am a bit bi, myself...

I also had several fursonas as a child. My very FIRST fursona was a unicorn, which isn't surprising if you know me well. Although... it's odd that I didn't stick to the unicorn as my main fursona...
I bid thee farewell, oh furry fandom! May we meet again.

I can remember being six or seven and pretending to be a cat; I'd tie a scarf to the loop of my jeans and crawl around meowing, or have a 'nap' on the couch '<img'> I really liked animals when I was a kid, cats, dogs, whatever.  And when those Jurassic Park toys came out, I'd play with my little raptor thing and pretend to be one (still with a scarf attached to my butt -- and walking on my toes, too).

Ah, such fun '<img'>

My Mum made tails for both my brother and myself and one halloween I was a space cat and my brother was a dog. (And I got the next day off school when I had a major reaction to the make-up we used for my markings.) I don't miss too much of my childhood, I stopped playing quite early and the things I really loved doing as a child are things I still do, like going out in a summer thunderstorm in a sundress and getting soaked (although nowadays I get leered at for doing that '<img'> ) and playing in a wide field barefoot in autumn.

I think the main thing I did when I was younger was pretend to be Firebrand, the gargoyle from Gargoyle's Quest for Gameboy. Heheh. I liked to pretend to be Sonic too of course. Still copy his mannerisms sometimes, hehe..

Me and my brother used to do "role playing" when we were younger, and among other characters, we'd play as a cat or dog that had been turned into a human somehow.  Good times.

Heheh, I remember being in kindergarten and when we played house, I was always the pet dog or cat! My teacher didn't like it though. And I always remember being animals, usually a lion. I've always been obsessed with lions, I'm kinda surprised my frusona isn't one!

As for playing now, Whenever my furiend and I hang out at her house, when it's nighttime we always run around outside in the dark. It'll be eleven o'clock at night, and we're plastic sword fighting in the front yard! '<img'>  The other day, we got towels and tied them to our backs for cloaks, and had a massive LARP outside that we made up. 'Twas very fun!

When i was little, i was a spike-o-saurus, a stegosaurus thing that had retractable spikes all over. My sisters and i spent a lot of time running around in grass that was taller than us, playing stalk and kill (i'm sure we were animals, i just don't remember what.)

When i ws 16 and joined the Wiccan faith (my current religion is a hybrid of agnostisism and wicca), i often played with magic, and was a very successful card reader (not tarot, you can do the same thing with an ordinary deck of cards: its a way of defusing a persons consentration so that you can read their minds,) i had imaginary wings.  Silly as it sounds, every morning in the shower i would feel them begin to grow on my back, large blue dragon wings. I felt them for so long, and when i needed strength for something, i used that part of me. I lost it when i lost someone i loved, and ever since then i have been trying to get it back.
THe sad part being that even now, i try to feel them, and there's absolutely nothing there.  ''

Whoa, sounds just like my old school.  (The "wheeled things" were those boards you sit on that have swivel-chair wheels at the bottom, right?)

Anyway, um, yeah.  I don't seem to recall any animal play in my own childhood, but I do remember there was a girl in my preschool class who used to pretend to be a cat.  It kinda creeped me out, to be honest.  Ironic that now I'm the one visiting furry message boards with a semi-feline fursona and she's the one who'd probably think furries are weirdos.  (Actually, it's been ages since I last saw her... I really have no idea what she's up to nowadays.)

i realized the same thing. i used to play games with my cousins where we were tigers or really any other animal that we could think of. heh i never knew it would get so big that i would be here as my fave animal. But i love it and i hope i never change.
