Not Everybody Can Walk Across a Rainbow
« on: August 10, 2010, 08:17:23 pm »
Heya!  I had found out a while ago that I had a poem accepted for publication in Sigma Tau Delta's The Far West Outpost, a newsletter for the society.  Now that it's officially published (as can be seen in the link above), I can share it with y'all.  So I hope you enjoy it! :)

Not Everybody Can Walk Across a Rainbow

But if you do,
The first step is uncertain, shaky,
Like standing on Jello.
If you grab the hand holds
In the blue and green stripes,
Each step gets easier until
You're at the top
Looking over what looks like
Doll houses surrounded by pine trees
In the green, green valley.

Your mother might see you sitting
On the purple edge
And get sad
Or worried
Or angry.
She'll tell you that you'll fall and break
Your neck, or that she'll
Disown you, or that she'll
Take you to live in a cave
Where there are no rainbows,

But you're there
At the intersection of sunshine and rain
With a puffy white cloud in your palm,
The stormy ones already tipping
Their hats to you.

Chip off a piece to take along,
Your little rainbow geode.
And don't wait too long--
The climb down is steep
With sharp rocks at the bottom,
And you just might slip
If you're not careful enough.

It's scary, I know.
That's why
Not everybody can walk across a rainbow.

I suppose most stay at the top
And go to the place
Where rainbows go
When they disappear.

Oh beautiful!

For some reason it puts images of my friends falling off Rainbow Road on Mario Kart :D

lol... It kinda does, doesn't it?  I like how you didn't include yourself in the group of people that fall off Rainbow Road. ;)

Anyway, thanks, everyone.  Honestly, the poem at one point ended in a completely different way -- that ending was in the middle.  The poem could have worked that way, but it was much perkier than I wanted.  The way it ends now, I feel like it gives some sort of mystical, unknown resolution -- where does that person sitting on the rainbow go?  It's almost unsettling to not know.

Hey now, I looked at the link and this poem was written by some guy named Brian Cook, not Alexandre. hehe

Anyway, alter-egos aside, it was a nice piece you'e submitted and congratulations on being a published author now.

Awhh that was cutee. But also generally nice and fun and meaningful and whatnot. Worthy of publication indeed.

I can't help but point out, though..
"You're mother might see you sitting"
should be
"YOUR mother might see you sitting"

'Cause otherwise/as it stands now
expanding the contraction, it's read 'You are mother might see you sitting' XD

Don't want to be a party pooper! Stuff like that just always jumps out at me. Really top-notch poem though ^__^

Omygosh... did they really do that?  *runs and looks at the publication, then at his own poem*

Gah!  I did send it out with that mistake, and the publication didn't correct it!  *face-paws*

Alright, I changed "you're" to "your."  I usually catch things like that... :o  *runs to change*

Anyway, thanks for the comments, guys!  I'm glad you've liked it so far. :)
