My only thought is I've never even heard of this most famous furry.

Yup, same here. I can think of at least a dozen other furriers that I know more then this one.
Still a thought provoking article.

Her arthritis will probably get worse with age, sadly - it's just the way it goes. She's 8 now and an average age of beardies in captivity is 10-12, so she's starting to get on (and doing very well, considering her host of medical issues). Still, it isn't bothering her in the slightest and her MBD is under control and has been for years.

traditional and digital artwork / A rat's journey into art. Acrylic paint.
« Last post by cause the rat on March 23, 2019, 04:41:24 pm »
This is more like an open blog. A way to share my triumphs and failures learning a new craft. Everything along the way.

A bit of my art history. I tried watercolor. Tried. And tried. If you don't have enough aggravation in life try watercolor. Any little mistake is there. You can't cover it up. And hardest of all you can't add light. The white of your paper is all the light you have. And when it's painted over it's gone. Yes you can 'scrub' it out. Scrub meaning ripping the surface of the paper away. Enough of that and your finished painting looks like zits on the Mona Lisa. And if you use white paint? THE HOROR!!! Your cheating. You have to suffer as much as everyone else or your work is not good enough to be called art. Well, I don't do art to suffer. All my paints most of the brushes will find new homes.

The reason I chose watercolor painting was the lack of chemicals. I would love to play with oil. But even the water based oil paints can lead to chemicals. Because my house is closed up ( allergies ) what i bring in stays in. Unfortunately oil paint is out of the question. But water? I get that out of the tap. Acrylics? The only acrylic paints I ever used were those cheapo craft paints you get at Walmarts. Used enough of those and it smells like you just freshly painted a room. So you may be asking why I chose to try acrylics anyway? Because quality acrylic paint doesn't have that painted wall smell. Because the cheaper the paint the more additives they use. And no matter how good the acrylic paint you can still clean it up with soap and water.

What I'm doing now.
Unlike watercolor painting it's better to have the surface your working on straight up. We're talking wall flat. So the first thing I'm working on is brush control. Holding the brush with no support between me and the canvas. Practicing my A, B, C,s. And I thought my handwriting was bad. A bit wonky. I'm also doing color saturation and hue studies. With a little under by belt I'll do my first painting. I want my first painting to be the absolute best I can do. Then I'll put that painting away and continue with excursuses. Then do the very same painting a second time. Just like learning to write with a pencil. You learn the moves your hand has to make to create the shapes. Then it's off to the races.

My first AH HA moment. What I've learned so far,
The farther back I hold the paint brush the more control I have. It sounds counterintuitive but it works.

When I do start posting works feel free to comment and critique.

news forum / Re: Trump the GOP and Democrats. A new path or more of the same.

The special counsels report has been handed over to Trumps
attorney general. We should remember this report is about the
campaign of president Trump, and not to indict the president as
the department of justist rules say a president cannot be indicted.
Also there are several loose ends that question the decision of
the special counsel left undone. These may have been turned
over to other prosecutors. The public needs to know this.

Many in the GOP and Trump are calling this a vindication of Trump
and  others. This is premature as there are many other investigations
of Trump, his family, and others around him in progress.

It has come to light trumps family has been using private emails to
handle government documents. The very thing Trump wanted to put
H. Clinton in jail for. Also the special counsels investigation wasn't
about Trump's coverups as president. So congress will have to
follow up on this. This doesn't count the counter intelligence
investigations on Trump and his family. Was Trump just a
puppet used by Russia? Or did he think he was smart enough
to use Putin for his own benefit? Seems this is yet to be
determined.

We also have to  assume the special counsel was under no pressure
to give Trump the benefit of the doubt. If he was to indict the
president, he being a member of the GOP would likely be an outcast
for the rest of his life. This is why the entire report and background
information needs to be released to the public. This way the public
can see for themselves what the special counsel investigated.

People need to understand how limited the special counsels
investigation was. It's limits haven't even been released in
entirety yet.

According to the AG he will release a basic outline of the report
this weekend. We have to wonder how much will be reported, and
will the AG limit it to favor Trump?  Trumps AG has a record of
wanting to protect a president above all. This is likely why Trump
nominated him.

So I spent a chunk of my birthday at the vet with Dany, having x-rays of her feet and lower legs.

Which are a bit of a mess. She's had multiple fractures in her toes which have healed very crooked. Her bones just flat out developed wrong in places. I actually hate her previous owners.

She has arthritis and it looks like her previous MBD is getting weird with age. She may be in the process of self-amputating a very damaged toe (if so then it has been slowly happening over YEARS with no bad effects), but it may just be getting super gnarly with arthritis. If it does come off, it won't bother her and I can keep it clean. The vet is pretty confident that she is in no pain at all for the time being, and if she does develop pain then we can treat her for it.

The lizard endures.

Yikes. That stinks. Sure hope she improves. She is in good hands now with you.

Bought a new Transformer a few days ago and I've been having fun playing around with him. He's probably the most poseable transformer I have.

Pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/UFkO8bH

For anyone curious, he is the Voyager Class Starscream from the current Siege: War For Cybertron line.
